Thank you.....it was very tough, and on September 23 it will be one year since she has been gone. She was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in February 07, and was with us about 6 months more from her date of diagnosis. She tried her best to fight it, but unfortunately by the time they found it, it was just too late. Emotionally it was and still is hard every single day. Also, I was in Texas and she was in Ontario, Canada...so that made it difficult, because i couldn't be there. I'm a control freak by nature...and so i had questions for the doctors and logistical things...that I just couldn't take care of being so far away. I was flying home on Tuesday to say good-bye to her (as we knew the end was approaching) and she died on Saturday - so I never made it home to say good-bye. My younger sister was with her in the hospital holding her hand as she passed - which is special for my sister..and I'm relieved she wasn't alone. I felt (feel) a lot of guilt about that though...not being there, waiting too long to go etc. It's particularly hard going through wedding stuff without your mom around - i can imagine if she were here I would be talking to her 3 or 4 times/day about all the little things that no one else really cares about except me......I suppose that is one of the many great things about this forum. The lesson (which is obvious, but i guess we all need reminders) is to enjoy each day, cherish the moments spent with your family, and remember that in the end THEY are the most important thing (not work, or parties, or money, or your dogs etc....I tended to forget that sometimes when my mom was sick).

I am so sorry you have to go through this? My grandmother passed away in April also and I think at that time you posted on my thread.

I know how you feel about always being the rock. I tend to be stronger too and because of that the same thing happens others lean on me and then I don't feel like I can turn around and lean on them. Not because they won't let me but because I won't let myself but inside I need to let it out and that is part of why this forum has been a wonderful outlet for me! I can express my true feelings to you guys and I get some great advice and a lot of shoulders! :)

Let me know if I can do anything to help you out through this time. It will be hard but you will move forward and get past this...just try and hang in there as best you can.

My thoughts are with you and your family! ;(

So sorry to hear of your loss. It's okay to be the rock, but you also need to have the ability to express your own feelings. I hope that you're holding up okay. It sounds like your aunt was a beautiful person and that you'll have many beautiful memories to keep her alive in your heart.
