To register or not to register for fine china?

Recommended Posts

I am not sure if I want to register for fine china. They are certainly beautiful and I am a believer that ambiance is a major contributor to a meal, but I just don't think we'd use them -- at least in the near future anyway. It seems like there are other items that may be more useful right now but I always hear that fine china is more of an investment. The FI and I like Lenox's "Columbus Circle" and Vera Wang's "Ivory Trellis." Thoughts?

PS I love kitchenware esp the Martha Stewart line! However, I don't really cook and only bake occasionally! So, in addition to the traditional kitchen items found in a registry, I will probably need to register a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and restaurant gift certificates! :)

I didn't. It's not like your wedding is the only chance to get china. If you decide you want some in the future, you can always buy it later.

I wasn't at all interested in having china. maybe someday I will be, but right now it's would be annoying to use the storage space for it. we are really casual & our fiestawear suits us much more than china.

also, if your mom or grandma has a nice set you might end up with theirs.

It's a totally personal thing. I've always loved china and I love to cook and enterain, so for me it was obvious. But if that's not your style then don't. You can also register for regular everyday dishes, if you would rather.

I'm not going with the China right now... maybe in a few moons when we get a bigger house or when I don't have to worry about it breaking. I did a poll with my friends before I did my registry and most just have them sitting in their orig boxes in the closet in the spare bedroom. My FMIL they have been married for 38 years and not until about 10 yrs ago did she finally take it out for Christmas.. sooo once a year not good of enough reason for it. I did however add a whole extra 4 placesetting box of my everyday stuff for the holidays to have 16 of everything.

I didn't register for China - mostly b/c my grandmother passed a set onto my mom that is magnificient and from England- it is serving for 24 and she still has every piece - my Mom plans to pass it to me.

sidenote: the Martha Stewart collection SUCKS - it is so crappy - i registered for a bunch of things and have returned EVERY single thing except 1 - i do not recommend it sad.gif

We are not doing china either. I wanted to register for things I will use. Denby is a nice line which I say can be used for everyday. Although it is on the pricey side. I have decided to get classic white pieces by Gluckstein. It's modern, fresh and I can add color with napkins and placemats.

I am registering for china, and sat down with a pro last weekend to talk about it.

I really liked this clean and simple Vera Wang design, but she warned me that Vera Wang and Kate Spade discontinue their patterns around every 4 years. So it might be hard to find replacement pieces later on down the road. So I decided to choose something else.

She also told me that you don't have to use it for only special occasions. She eats pizza on hers all the time, because she say, "it just makes me feel fancy, and I swear the pizza tastes better on it". LOL

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
