Hey Rachel,

My TA was in touch with Rocio. Apparently second week in May. I'll probably call her personally May 1st since I am banking on January 5th, 2012. I will let you know what I find out!

Has anyone heard what date exactly in May they are confirming dates for 2012?

Welcome Nicole! If you do a search of this thread you will find some girls talking about their experiences with iPods instead of a DJ. If I remember correctly, no one had any major complaints. I'm thinking about going that route too :)

New Bride here!! Getting married December 2011 =)

Since we have such a big group going, we have to do a private reception.

I was wondering about a DJ. I was looking into prices for DJ BOB and they are very good. But I am wondering if this is some place that we could maybe cut costs and just use my Ipod. But is the one speaker they have loud enough?

Thanks Manda, yes I was thinking of calling there tomorrow too. I am going to go with the Ipod, sounds like it works fine and save some $$$ and have all your own music.

Stephy - how did you plan your budget?  Were there any hidden expenses that you weren't aware of?

Also!

What times are available for ceremonies?  And do you have to pick the time when you choose the date?  How long did you have for your private reception?  Did you do dancing after dinner - without extra charge?

Sorry for all the q's =P

I guess the budget depends on what you really want.
We didn't have a strict budget.  We just went and looked at what we wanted, compared the options, and choose whatever we saw fit. We did have an initial amount in mind for the overall budget but we went about 30% over... which is alot, but to us doesn't seem like a big deal considering we had the most amazing day of our lives.  It was all worth it.  If you can't afford it, I'd say don't go for it.  We of course didn't go overboard on things, we stuck with what we wanted and could afford.

I don't think there were any surprises or hidden expenses... The only thing I was a bit confused with was the wedding package at the Grand Palladium.  Since we had so many guests and wanted a private reception, we had to pay alot of extras (chairs for the ceremony, sparkling wine toast, dinner, etc.)  It seemed like nothing was included in the package.  Remember that it covers only 8 guests!

They have plenty of times for the ceremony but you do have to pick a time when you book your date.  They can have up to 3 weddings a day but only one per time (does that make any sense?).  They do this in order to allow you to choose the location you want for the ceremony without having to worry about someone else booking the same location (both gazebos, church, beach, etc).  This you can pick when you get on site.

Our reception was at La Laguna (private) from 7PM to 11PM.  We did dinner and some dancing.  At 11PM, the DJ stopped playing but they will stop your music as well if you're using an ipod.  They didn't push us out but guests started leaving soon after the music stopped anyways.  I'm not quite sure how the dancing works at the a-la-carte restaurants, not sure whether you can have music and everything?  Other past brides could probably answer this one...

    • Hello Everyone, I am new here, I heard about this site from a friend of mine that had a destination wedding back in 2012 which was beautiful.  I am leaning towards the DR if I find a place that has all that I am looking for if not Mexico is another great option. Thinking of May 2020 if that is enough time to plan this! I like modern looks, all inclusive for sure.  I definitely want the beach very very close to the pools and rooms, a swim up bar is a must.  I really like the idea of the swim ups in the rooms if possible.  I am going to have friends that bring their kids so it can't be adult only.  I do want to get married on the beach which seems like most of the all inclusive resorts offer. My friend got married at the SENSATORI AZUL BEACH RESORT RIVIERA MAYA and it had all I would want in a resort if anyone has stayed there and has any advice. Thanks for all the help ahead of time.   M&B

    • They forgot the wedding cake topper   Okay, so no big deal - just a once in a lifetime moment. The upsetting part is the wedding coordinator, Dionne, did not seem at all concerned about the mistake. The only reason we got an apology was because we happened to run into her the night before we left. Our wedding was on Saturday we left Wednesday morning. We were told we could escalate our concern to Riu corporate, the wedding coordinator doesn’t have a supervisor on site. Riu corporate said they did their best and apologized. Brides, go to Jamaica, get married, but do yourself a favor and do not go to a Riu resort, especially not Riu Negril. I am certain there are other resorts that would have been in touch immediately and tried to make up for their mistake. Not Riu.
