Anyone familiar with the Marathon, Florida area?

Hello! I am trying to narrow down my options here. We have decided to get married in a beautiful seaside church in the Florida Keys in Marathon. Right now I am considering making my guests drive 30 minutes to Islamorada to stay and celebrate because I am not familiar at ALL with the Marathon area. I feel very uncomfortable just picking a random resort and trip advisor has not been much help. If anyone is familiar with resorts or restaurants/bars in this area, please get in touch with me!! Thanks!!

Hi! I read your post a few days ago and have finally gotten registered :)

We're getting married in Islamorada at The Islander Resort, sure you have seen it in your searches. I have heard of some of the places you mentioned in pps but not been. I have heard recommendations to MM88 for dinner but don't know about weddings there. We looked at Coconut Cove and the Islander when we went down to look at places; had a couple of other appts but fell in love w/the Islander. I think you said you guys wanted to marry in a church, I know someone having the reception at Pierre's. Have also seen recommendations for The Caribbean Resort. Don't know if I"m much help...let me know if you have other questions! When are you thinking of getting married??

Hi there! Thanks for your response! We have not decided on the church officially as we have to confirm dates, paperwork, get approvals etc.....but I know our guests and my FI and I are staying at the Islander based on all the great reviews I've read. And I think we will be hosting a post wedding ceremony dinner on the beach at the Morada Bay Beach Cafe. I thought after we were done with toasts and eating, we could all walk down the beach to their live band on the beach and dance and party the night away. I just want something simple and casual and fun. I've heard great things about the places you mentioned as well.

Here's the catch. Everyone is quoting me about half the price this fall versus next spring.....now we are thinking about having it in November 08....YIKES!!! I haven't even gone dress shopping!!!!! rottentomato.gif

That area is definitely gorgeous weather-wise in November, as long as you can avoid the impending threat of hurricanes!

By late November, hurricane season ends though, and the temps are nice and mild out. The spring and summer seasons can definitely get hot! I think the price break, combined with the cooler weather might make for a nice combination!

I've always been less of a "hot" weather girl though. Go figure, I end up living and working Florida right? Not a whole lot of cold here, unfortunately. :)

Best of luck to you in the rest of your planning! (Jump on that dress shopping soon if you are looking at November ... that way you have time for alterations if needed. ) :)

The discount is do to it being hurricane season. Keeping my fingers crossed... most hurricanes happen around august/september that is high season but there is always that threat. But for half the price and a contract from ALL your vendors saying they will honor your agreements at a later date if a hurricane does threaten sounds perfect. Better go pick out a dress :)
