Is this enough time?

Recommended Posts

I know I want to get married in the DR because I liked it so much. However, I'm looking at checklists and timelines and I'm wondering if I'm giving myself and guests enough time. I was planning on paying for myself and my finace for 10 days at the resort, then sending invites to guests now. For August 25th, 2007. I'm working with destinationweddings.com and my travel agent says that 4-6 months is enough time for guests, and they can take advantage of the interest free payment plan offered by their site. But I'm looking at everyone elses dates, and It seems like they gave themselves a year or so to plan. Just curious what everyone thinks.

I wanted to give my guests as much notice as possible so that they could start saving, so I sent my std's out right after new years for my wedding in October.

I guess it depends on your group, I know my friends and family don't have tons of money and they also have other priorities, some of them have to request vacation time early because of their profession, so giving them a lot of notice was important for us.

people can plan a DW in a couple of months, however with that said that just means you have to be flexiable with your choices.. IE a good photographer may be already booked if you want to get married on a weekend. Or maybe the resort itself already has a wedding going on that day so you may have to work around the times..

I was engaged in early Oct. 06, booked my site and hotel some time in late Nov/early Dec for June 8, 07. i sent out my STDs in late Dec. I think. i can't remember when you said your date was, but like TammyM said - you may have to be flexible on some things. as for your guests, i would think 4-6 mos is plenty of time - if someone isn't able to come, i can't imagine a few mos. would make much of a difference.

I don't think this should be bad at all. You should get save the dates out right away though so that your guests can start saving. Normally it is a little better to give people as much time as possible to save but in reality, most people are procrastinators so it may not matter anyway. What I would do is check hotel rooms and see what the prices are like. Sometimes when you have more time to plan you can get better deals on rooms and airfare, but I think you still have some time so I say go for it.

I kind of read your post wrong the first time I replied, I guess I didn't realize you had a date chosen, yes I'm an idiot. I think the more notice you can give people the better, but if you're planning your wedding for august, I think you still have enough time to notify people and they can decide if they are able to go.

Isn't that the truth! I gave people 9 months notice and now, less than 3 months away, they are starting to ask about hotels and stuff that has been on our website for months. Do your best and at least the main people you care about will be there.

I think some of it depends on where you're getting married too. When we were looking into St. Thomas, every resort, restaurant, WC, vender said 6 months was plenty of notice for them to schedule our wedding for a Saturday night. But in Mexico, we wound up moving the date out a month because that was the first Saturday night opening they had.

I agree that most people start planning early simply because they want to allow their guests time to plan/save for the trip. Even though our TA offers payment plans too, they still have to be paid in full 45 days prior to departure. So we're sending our notices out with about 9 months advance notice...

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
