Help me find this setting

I know I realize that no matter what I do I'm going to have to have it custom made so that it fits and its exactly what I want. Yikes $17,000. Ouchie. The funny thing is I got my diamond from my friend who is a distributor and he had his "guy" do my setting. It turns out the guy is the guy who sets diamonds for Tiffany. So my setting was made low also so that it wouldn't be easy to snag.

funny you mention that - even though the tiffany ring was $17K, i got a ring with identical characteristics, but a bigger stone (by 0.3 carats!) for LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE OF THE TIFFANY RING! the guy who set my ring studied under a tiffany diamond setter, so he was quite familiar with how to copy the setting frm the photo i showed him!

Yeah my friend the distributor told me that places like Tiffany's have to charge more b/c of the real estate rent and the amount of money they spend on advertising and marketing. But a diamond is a diamond is a diamond. I think its absurd to pay an inflated price just to get the blue box. But that's just me.

yep! so true! and i totally agree... why pay double the price just for a silly little box, when it is so easy to buy a tiffany box on ebay ;-) you can also always go into tiffany if you own other tiffany rings and say you lost the box and they will give you a new one. some stores charge for it, but ive done it and gotten it free.

haha no, i didnt use it to pass off a gift as tiffany. i used the ring box for a tiffany sterling silver ring i'd received as a gift that didnt come with an actual ring box (just came in the regular tiffany box with the padding)

UPDATE:

So I trekked back to the diamond district to see the guy my friend (the diamond distributor) recommended I go to. Eeew his rings were so ugly. He had gaudy thick gold bands with diamonds for men. Like the kind gangster rappers wear. (Sorry if anyone's hubby is a ganster rapper or likes this kind of jewelery) It was awful.

So then I am showing him a pic of what I want and the guy is showing me the gaudiest bands I have ever seen in my life. I can't imagine any female wearing them. They were super thick and heavy and just did not look feminine at all! So I tell him I don't like his stuff (in nicer words of course) and he tells me he can custom make what I want for $600 (the new setting plus a wedding band) but that it gets made in Hong Kong and it would take longer than 2 weeks. Ummm yeah that's not going to work.

So I just decided to check out stores on my own. One guy had what I wanted but he said it would cost $2,800 and I would still have to get the curved band. So finally I left defeated and dejected and gave up.

I think I'm just going to buy a cheap whatever band for myself, just so James has something to place on my finger and I will get a band later on.

Thank you all for your help!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
