Calling all BDW Members...Help me get my baby girl home! Updated: We're home!!

Amtrak is SUPER slow sometimes too. I wouldn't take the train. Ive taken it several times from So. Oregon to N. Oregon and it takes way longer than it is to drive!

I don't have any other ideas though. I think the RV sounds most practical.

From LA (sorry I couldnt remember off hand what part of Cali you are in) to Minneapolis Amtrack says it is about 32hour trip at approximately $400 per person in a coach seat. Their roommettes (small room) is an extra $200 a ticket.

Flying may be a little risky and driving with a new born is tough.....but I think that you can do it.

Every few hours when she needs to eat just pull over into a parking lot and feed her in the back seat, get her burp and then you can get going again. You can also change diapers in the car to avoid germs from public bathrooms. If you are at all interested in driving you can supplement with a bottle and let your hubby do it.

Lots of fussing-I know.
Someone has to work on that tele-porting thing.
Good luck!
That is exactly what I was just thinking!! I love that idea

What about having someone from CA drive in the RV with you, and then they can return it, so that way it wouldn't be a one-way rental. Do you have family there in CA? If so, maybe someone college aged who would think it would be cool. You could even pay them money, if you like that option...

Other then that, it looks like you have thought of everything. Sorry didn't have the miracle answer!

I totally see what the Dr's mean about not particularly wanting her on a commercial flight. Planes are so germy! And honestly, just being in close quarters w/ that many people...Eek!! I'm nervous about it too. I wouldn't probably fly w/ a baby so young if it could be avoided (like no vacations or anything) - just my opinion. But obviously you have to get home somehow...lordy...what a dilemma!!!!

I know my mom and dad drove from CA to TX w/ me when I was an infant...like 2 months old? I'm certain it was not fun. But we all made it ok! (funny side note: my mom had been cloth diapering me since I was born...she says that cross country trip converted her to a disposable diaper using mom pretty fast! lol!)

Is there any way to do a combo type thing? Like drive to a certain point in a rental car (or take the train?) then charter a shorter flight for the last leg of the trip?

Gosh...I feel at a loss right now. I'll brainstorm a little more and see if I can think of anything. Just so I know...what kind of plane were you looking into chartering? Some models are less expensive than others. But probably the guy you talked to went over all that with you....

are there one way rv rental places that work like u-haul? how many hours is the drive?

I imagine there are some BDW girls along the route with a guest bedroom you could stay in.

ann, dont take amtrak, its scuzzier than a commercial flight. trust me. i think driving cross country in a conversion van or a mini van might be your best, safest option for gwen's health. i know its not ideal to drive because it will take so long, but you can at least control the environment of what she's exposed to that way.

    • I have stayed at Dreams La Romana and Dreams Dominicus.  The two resorts are very different in style and decor. A few comparison points are below and fact sheets are attached for both.   Both resorts are approx 45 minutes from Punta Cana airport, close proximity to Saona Island, Catalina Island and Altos de Chavon. Top championship golf courses in the Caribbean are just minutes away including Teeth of the Dog, Dye Fore, The Links and La Estancia – all designed by world-famous Pete Dye. Restaurants are similar at both resorts.  Both offer the Explorers Club for Kids.  Dreams Dominicus  Brand new resort and in 2016 488 rooms (however additional construction was underway) More contemporary style & decor Good beach area Rooms were very nice Preferred Club located in main lobby and adjacent to main pool & beach front Food was good Center plaza area with nighttime entertainment Main lobby is small, but outdoor bar off lobby is nice Dreams La Romana Originally built in 2003 & opened as Dreams La Romana in 2008 756 rooms Recently renovated and new preferred club adults only lounge & pool added  Rooms are more traditional Caribbean decor Grounds are very lush and tropical Good beach area food was good    Dreams Dominicus fact sheet.pdf Dreams La Romana fact sheet.pdf
