Post pics of your Wedding Cake!

I watch too much Food Network, so I know that bakeries can also make edible shells and spray paint or brush paint them with edible color to make them look realistic. The shells on my cake were actually supposed to be chocolate shells. But much the same way 3 tiers turned into 2 tiers, chocolate shells turned into real shells. Good thing I was pretty easy going about the cake!

Have you seen the chocolate seashells? They add a nice beachy feel and are (I'm sure) delicious. At least you wouldn't have to worry about anyone biting into shell pieces! Here's the site...

I'm supposed to have shells on my cake; the bakery asked me to bring my own shells so I was thinking of taking down some decorative ones left over from making table number frames. I did think about the chocolate seashells but my concern is how to get them down to Mexico without having them melt or squished. Wasn't sure if I was just being overly concerned though. Still pondering what to do. Has anyone taken chocolate shells down without any problems?

I am also going to be bringing down chocolate coral, sand dollars, starfish and shells and I am actually going to package them with ice packs in a carry cooler that people bring their lunches in... IDK Hopefully it will work!! If not I will have a plain white cake!! Oh well!

Hmmmm....that sounds like a plan. Only I'm not sure we will be able to do that as a carry on since I'm planning to carry on a few other things. I'll have to figure it out. I also wondered how well they do once on the cake, in Mexico's warm weather. Maybe I'll just bring both in case. Oh boy.... More decisions! cheesy.gif

That's what I would do, honestly. Put the chocolate in baggies and wrap those in aluminum foil. Finally, put them in a cooler or lunchbox packed with some ice packs. Then....stick em in your carry on. At least you can periodically check them on the plane if you think about it. I'm sure you could even ask the stewardess for some ice if you noticed them getting a little warm. It might even be a nice mid-flight treat!!!! :)

My sister recently had a DIY destination wedding here in VA.  We live about 4 hours away from the venue and only about 10 guests were from the area. Most flew in from Texas, Tennessee and Oklahoma!!  

 

Since she was a wedding planner from the St.Louis area and I am a wedding photographer from the area, we had a pretty good idea of how we wanted the wedding to look....and the cakes were a HUGE focal point.  

 

Each small cake was a different flavor with a different pattern created in the buttercream icing.  My sister had her fiance make these wooden boxes (super cheap...about $4 a box!!!!), which we THEN covered in pretty papers from Paper Source.  YES!!!  NOW YOU HAVE AN EXCUSE TO GO THERE AND BUY PAPER!!!!!!!!!!  lol.  

 

As a wedding photographer who tries to get everything published....I totally understand the value of the cake display!!!  This is cheap and super fun, and is PROBABLY something you can assemble on location at your destination of choice!!!

This is a wedding cake that my clients Becky and John had at their wedding reception at Hacienda Tres Rios in Playa del Carmen, MX. (Which is a resort I am madly in love with, BTW...). The cake was VERY tasty, but not very decorative (most resort cakes aren't).  So the couple brought this adorable little cake topper to make the cake more tailored to them.  The resort was more than happy to accomodate the couple's mini decoration.  :D

So kool... How are these marble chocolate shells made? I have the shell mold and I watched a few videos on youtube on making them with gumpaste but chocolate sounds much more appealing! Has any one made them or do you know where to buy them?
