It was beautiful! We had the steel drum band for the ceremony and I ended up canceling the DJ and made my own iPod playlist!

When I get a chance, I'll post all my songs- it was a nice reggae mix.

My FMIL is making rum/black cake for favours. She can throw down with food and cake especially. We're looking into a reception venue that's allowing us to bring our own cake. FMIL says she could make it (possibly a regular pound cake since the favors would be rum). I hope that helps.

But I have a general question about travel... seeing as how both of our families and majority of guests are from Jamaica/ travel there often, I was wondering if I should even get a TA. My resort allows ppl to stay off property (which is a main reason why I chose it). Should I just let guests book accomodations on their own? Some guests have never been there but I'm still wondering if it's even worth it.

What are you ladies planning on doing?

I didn't bother with a TA. Everyone makes their own arrangements on a regular basis, so I really didn't feel it was needed. So many people will just be staying with family anyway. I am not at an AI, so I just reserved the rooms for people wanting to stay at the resort, and they will pay when they get there. They made their own flight arrangements.

If I was having the wedding at home, I would have black cake in a favour box. Still deciding what I should in Jamaica? Thoughts?
We ended up getting a black cake down there and brought the boxes down with us. My mom and my aunt cut and boxed it up as favors.

I'm thinking about getting a black cake down there and bringing down boxes also...I'm not sure yet how that's going to work with my resort. We're getting a 3-4 tier traditional wedding cake from another bakery in Mobay, but the resort offers a cake for as part of the wedding package (it's very basic-looking though). So ideally we would have the resort make the black cake as our free cake and we use that as our favors. I haven't talked to them yet as far as how we could get it sliced and put in boxes, but I hope we can work something out.

I wasn't planning on using a TA at first, but someone on this forum recommended a good TA so we decided to do it. It's been really helpful because she's keeping track of who has booked so far, otherwise we would have no idea. Our resort is an AI though so I don't know if it would work as well with people staying in different resorts. We have about 10 people coming that still live in JA, and they're making their own arrangements since it's cheaper for residents (some coming from Kingston are going to stay at the resort at least 1 night).

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
