Shin Splints?

Recommended Posts

I know for me the stretches didn't work right away and you will still have pain until those muscle strength up. I always had to tape my shins before I went out and did anything. You may have to do that for a while. Sucks to take the tape off, but its better than having awful pains and you should be able to do whatever your doing longer.

Ice and advil, my two heros! I play soccer and get shin splints when we have a long break and then come back again. I try to use ice packs (the kind like in a first-aid kit, where you squeeze the bag and shake it, and something chemical happens to make it icy-cold) and strap them to my legs for about 30 minutes before and after the games. And advil before, then the next morning.

Also, since you get them when walking, try to walk on softer surfaces like a track or grass, instead of on sidewalks. And stretch BEFORE walking, and after too :)

When I would get shin splints while playing soccer (& had to keep going) I would wrap medical tape around my leg in 2 or 3 places for the rest of the game. My old coach showed me this & to be honest I have no idea why, but I always found it made the pain a bit more bearable.

I will def. try all the suggestions, I'll do anything to get some relief. Now that I'm getting back into exercising, I have to deal with this. I wonder why taping your leg helped? Its weird bc when I was having a lot of arch & heel pain on my feet, the podiatrist taped up my feet really tight and they felt better.

I hate shin splints!! I used to play field hockey and every year at the beginning of the season I would get them, I don't miss that pain!'

For some reason, I could totally be making this up, so someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think when you get shin splints something about the muscle pulling away from the bone maybe, so maybe by taping your legs, its pulling everything together and keeping it tight.

That whole statement may be SO wrong, but its in my head as if someone told me that at one time, so we'll see if anyone else can verify, lol!

just be really careful with shin splints because they can lead to stress fractures if you really push it. Try taking some time off of running/walking, strengthen your muscles like everyone is suggesting, and go to a proper running store and get your feet sized for the proper shoes.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
