What to do with pets

hey everyone,

 

i'm just wondering what everyone plans on doing with their pets while away? normally i would have my sister watch them but since she's obviously coming to the wedding that doesn't work. we dont' really know our neighbors although i guess they're an option. are you boarding them? i have some time to figure it out, but just wondering...

we have a dog walker that comes to our house 1x a week or more - we maintain the relationship so that we can utilize their pet sitting services for long weekends and for our wedding since all of our typical babysitters will be there with us! i am not comfortable boarding our dog - we would rather pay a little more and have the pet sitter stay at our house!

Is there a dog hotel in your city? That's where we are going to put our dog when we get married and honeymoon.

we boarded ours at our vets. I used to work for my vet when I was younger, so I was familiar with the area where they keep the dogs and their standards of cleanliness, etc...

 

they took good care of our dogs, played with them as much as they could, took them for walks, they were very happy.

like your situation everyone who normally watches her will be with us. She will only be there the one day ( now we are not have a DW).

We have people come to the house and stay from 7 pm to 7 am. They also walk in the morning, at lunch, and in the evening. It's $$$ but worth it. We used to take them to camps/kennels/etc but they are the happiest when they get to stay home.

A lot of the other girls already suggested it, but there are a lot of really nice dog kennels. Some of those places are like doggie spas, it almost makes you jealous! The ones I know of around me are a little pricey, but I think it's worth it if having someone dog sit at your house or there's isn't an option.

Cats a bit more self-sufficient, so in the past when we just had a cat and would go on vacation, I would have a co-worker who lived in the area come by before and after work just to check on the little monster, fill the food and water dish and bring in the mail. I would also give her some $$ for her time/trouble.

A friend of ours is taking ours for the week. She already has a dog and is excited to have a friend for him for the week.

Great topic! My advice from experience is to board them somewhere with a person/people who know how to spot any problems. We boarded our dog Honey at her vet's kennel.

 

A few days before we left Honey was scooting a lot and with everything going on it was overlooked. 2 hours before my wedding I get a call from Dr. Brooks saying Honey appears to have ruptured an anal gland and is probably in a lot of pain. We gave authorization to treat her and all was well (except for the $500 bill we came back to!).

 

Point is, if she were staying with a friend (which was the original plan) or even at a facility without medical staff onsite it may have gone unnoticed and she may have suffered for 2 weeks. Even if you have to pay a little more make sure your pet will be observed by a trained eye. You wouldn't leave your child with a sitter who wasn't qualified, you know? Good luck )
