stressing out

Recommended Posts

I will try to make this as breif as I can...

I bought my dress in october and paid to have it rushed and ready in 3 months. It was supposed to be ready at the end of January, then the store has to ship it to me still (i bought the dress in a city other than the one I live in). I called and they said it would be in around Feb 6. That date passes and I call again. They say the manufacturer has it ready and it should be on the way to the store. Yesterday they called and said they made a mistake, the manufacturer just called and they don't have it yet. It was delayed by the chinese new year (i guess it's made in chinahuh.gif?) and they hope it will be ready by the end of feb but they won't be able to tell me for sure until next week. AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

Now...my wedding is March 26!!! What do I do? Do I hope for the best or shop for an alternate "just in case" dress?

Oh that sucks! I'm sure you don't want to worry about this right now. I would wait to see what they say, they should know next week right?

If they don't have an answer next week I'd tell them you want your money back and then you could see if you could find some trunk shows, bridal shops that sell off the rack, or try Davids bridal.

My dress came in 4 weeks before my wedding and I was stressing! But it all worked out, good luck!

That totally sucks. I understand why you'd be stressed out. I heard the same thing about BM dresses, that due to Chinese New Year, none of the designers would be able to rush ship a dress to me. Anyway, why don't you see what they say next week & then if they can't give you a specific date, then look at possible alternatives. I wouldn't buy anything else just yet. Just try to wait it out another week. Do you think you're gonna need a lot of alterations? Do you have a place in mind for where you're getting alterations done if you do need them? If so, why don't you contact them & ask them if they'd be able to alter your dress in a short time frame just so you know what you're dealing with.

I wouldn't go looking for an alternative yet... I would call the manager and make a big stink about paying extra to rush it, that your wedding is coming up, etc. I would also talk to whoever is supposed to do your alterations... most places can do it quickly. But, I would definitely make sure I had it lined up and that they are expecting it to be a quick alteration job. Even if they get the dress March 1st (hopefully much sooner!), you should be able to have it done in time. I hate that you are going through this, but it will be okay. Don't freak out yet...

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try the dress on in my size so I don't know yet the extent of the alterations.

I will wait and see what they say next week. I am definitely going to make them give me the rush charge back.

I guess everything was going too smoothly. I needed something to make me crazy, right? shots.gif

Maybe I will focus my attention on finding shoes so I don't think about it too much.

Unless you are super tall, you will probably need the dress hemmed, right? Do you know who you're going to use? If not, I would start talking to dress shops/seamstresses. Tell them the situation and see what they say... at least you won't have to stress about that once the dress comes in.

Alright. I had this happen... only I had more time than you... but I still freaked out none the less. Now, I did the "just in case" shopping. I highly DON'T recommend this until you are ready to truly purchase a second dress. Because when I just went looking for possible options, I feel in LOVE with a dress. And wouldn't you know it. I buy the back up dress and the next day my first dress came.

So... I wouldn't go emergency shopping quite yet. But, I would find a seamstress that knows your situation and is willing to do any needed alterations very quickly.

Can you post a picture of your dress? We might be able to find an alternative that looks very close to your original choice... although let's wait until next week.

Believe me.. you have "bride-power" here and we'll help you get through pretty much anything. :) Fingers are crossed that you hear good news.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
