Hi Brides! I am getting married NEXT WEEK at Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach in Cabo San Lucas, and am in a bit of a panic over who to tip & how much! The resort is all-inclusive, and the wedding was booked as a package deal, so I'm not really sure what the protocol is. I assume I'll need to tip the bartender/waitstaff/DJ/coordinator - but have no clue how much! I regret not thinking about this earlier, or budgeting for it... What have other brides done in all-inclusive situations? -Kari

I'm looking to hire a DJ for my wedding and reception in Montego Bay. I'm thinking that outside DJs might save me some money. Help please. Any recommendations or suggestions??

Hello my fellow brides! Planning my Cabo wedding has been a lot more than I ever expected or thought I'd signed up for. Though I’d been a long time lurker on this forum, I only originally posted back in December 2014 to share my heartbreak of having my wedding cancelled as a result of Hurricane Odile and then re-cancelled due to the venue not being ready when they promised to be. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/topic/78505-cabo-wedding-cancelled-twice-advice-needed/ As everyone on this forum knows, having a destination wedding can be scary with so many things out of your control, and having to somewhat blindly trust whatever information you can find. I depended on many of the opinions and feedback I’d read on these forums (and a few times just blind luck) and ultimately it all worked out as the most perfect wedding I could have ever asked for. As a result, I wanted to pay it forward to all of the other brides out there in lurking mode. I based many of my decisions and choices on what other lovely brides have shared, and I couldn’t have been happier with the results. So here it is….My full reviews for my 2015 Cabo Wedding Location: Cabo San Lucas, Mexico Date: May 9th, 2015 Number of guests: 75 people Accomodations: Grand Solmar Lands End, Playa Grande and Solmar All-Inclusive Ceremony/Reception Venue: Grand Solmar Lands End, Lands End Terrace, Playa Grande Beach Flowers / Decorations: Through the Grand Solmar Lands End Wedding Coordinator: Alana Duran and Erika Quiroz through the Grand Solmar Photographers & Videographer: Enrique Morales, EM Weddings DJ, Equipment and Lighting– Victor Daniel De Alba, Teeven Technology Event Entertainment Violinist – Violetta Poletek - www.caboviolin.com Hair & Makeup: Suzanne Morel Welcome Cruise: Cabo Mar Accomodations: Grand Solmar Lands End, Playa Grande and Solmar All-Inclusive (review on location, food, rooms, etc.) Solmar collection is actually 3 different resorts in the same area which all had very different price points, and flexible all-inclusive options, which are all easily accessible from one another either by walking or taking the countless shuttles available throughout the resorts. This meant by offering the choice of any of these accommodations to our guests, we could still be all together, but not have to burden any of our guests with hotel offerings that were completely out of their price range. My husband and I only stayed at the Playa Grande and the Grand Solmar, so I can only speak directly about those two, however our guests that stayed in the Solmar All-Inclusive said it was perfectly lovely, the rooms were large, the beds were clean and the food and alcohol was good. A few mentioned the bathrooms being a bit dated, but they certainly didn’t consider this a reason to not stay there. Also, anyone staying here was completely permitted on the other properties, so it didn’t prevent them from being able to spend time with all of our other guests. The vast majority of our guests stayed at the Playa Grande, and that tended to be the default meet up / hang out spot for everyone regardless of resort. It was an active, young and fun resort, with tequila volleyball among other poolside activities and music playing, though not so loud you couldn’t hear yourself think. It proved to be the best option for most of our guests so they could socialize by the pool without worrying being disruptive. The Playa Grande also offered an all-inclusive option that about half the guests took advantage of, though my sense is you probably end up breaking even either way you do it. They offer 2-for-1 happy hours by the pool starting at 2PM. The beds were incredible comfortable, the rooms were super clean and each room contained a full fridge, microwave, etc. so you were also able to buy your own groceries and prepare your own meals, if that’s what you wanted. I mainly only ate at the pool bar and at breakfast but the food at both was excellent. The drinks were delicious (I heard a few complaints of not enough alcohol but the staff was happy to remedy this if brought to their attention). There are also signs that explicitly prohibit ‘seat claiming’ by coming down and dropping towels on the chairs first thing in the morning, which I very much appreciated have been to so many other resorts where that is an on-going frustration. Even in May, there seemed to be an abundance of seating available, and so this was a non-issue. The Grand Solmar is most exclusive of the three, and the much more elegant. It was perfect for my bridesmaids and I to get ready in the day of and stay over our wedding night, the grounds are beautiful, it feels very private and quiet (despite ongoing construction to build a new lobby and fix some hurricane damage). The staff was excellent, so friendly, so helpful and just an absolute pleasure. In my opinion, all of the resorts would be worthy of 5 stars within the price points they are in. The kicker above all else that made this collection of resorts even better was that it is right next to downtown. A 5-minute walk from the Playa Grande puts you right in the Marina next to Senor Frogs. Our guests were extremely grateful for this, as it made Cabo much more accessible than it would have been had we had our wedding somewhere in the Corridor like where we original planned. Ceremony / Reception Venue: Grand Solmar Lands End, Lands End Terrace, Playa Grande Beach Possibly one of the greatest blessings in disguise in replanning this wedding was discovering the Grand Solmar Lands End as our venue. The Lands End Terrace where the ocean meets the lands end rocks jutting out of the sea is so unique and breathtaking. The location of it relative to the resort also is somewhat remote and extremely private, so you don’t run the risk of random resorts guests wandering through your wedding or voyeuristically sneaking a peak. The lighting, sound equipment and general set up are all critical to maximizing this amazing space (all of which was executed flawlessly, but I’ll get to that in later parts of the review) but there is so much natural beauty here, and along with the gazebo, there is very little that needs to be added to make this perfect. All catering, drinks and the wedding cake were handled through the resort, and it was all better than I expected. When the guests arrived at the cocktail hour on the stunning Don Luis terrace, servers were waiting with trays of drinks and hors d’oeurves and giant smiles on their faces. The one limitation of this space was you cannot play music after 10PM, which effectively meant our dance party / reception was over at 10PM. I knew we wouldn’t be ready to call it a night at that point, so I asked if we could possibly have a bonfire on the Playa Grande beach. Though I’m not sure if this was something they had done before or not, they were super amenable to making it happen, and the end result was one that blew my expectations completely out of the water. The resorts organized the shuttles to get our guests back over to where the bonfire was happening on the beach. They had laid out beach chairs in a perfect circle around the fire, with Mexican blankets to help people stay warm. There was a small s’mores station where people could pick up their marshmallows and the chocolate was pre-melted onto the graham crackers so once the toasted marshmallow was placed on it, you had a perfect, non-messy s’more. They also set up a small tiki bar to continue the drinks flowing until Midnight. It was the perfect way to wind down and end the night Flowers / Decorations: Through the Grand Solmar Lands End As I mentioned, the natural beauty of the space is so great, we needed very little in terms of decoration to complement the space. Something worth mentioning is the Grand Solmar is generally more restrictive about working with outside vendors that aren’t part of their approved set. Due to the extenuating circumstances I had faced, they were much more flexible with me, but when it came to flowers they insisted we go through them. For what it is worth, I don’t think this is as much them trying to maximize their profits, as it is them wanting to provide a truly immaculate wedding, and feeling more confident in their ability to do it versus a 3rd party vendor they have less control over. I gave them the proposal that I had from an earlier florist and they were able to replicate it completely to my vision at the exact same cost. As part of their standard set up, they provide beautiful tiffany chairs for the ceremony, white table linens were pinwheel table cloths (I believe that’s what they are called) which added a nice, understated touch of elegance and white draped material and a white runner for the gazebo. I brought light teal cloth napkins from home, and the look was perfect. As far as the bouquets and boutonnieres, they also arrived just as expected and were absolutely stunning. Wedding Coordinator: Alana Duran and Erika Quiroz through the Grand Solmar The vast majority of my experience was with Alana, who had helped me out through the beginning always, answering my emails thoroughly and promptly and giving me honest and direct answers so properly set my expectations. She never said “We can’t do that” or “That’s not allowed”. She always took time to develop some thoughtful alternatives and would talk them through with me. She was very professional and just truly lovely. Given we planned our wedding at the Grand Solmar, sight unseen, she had to work to make me feel very comfortable and confident that things would work out, and she successfully did that every step of the way. A few weeks before the actual wedding, she got another wedding coordinator role that offered her more international opportunities that was something she was interested in perusing. She seamlessly handed everything off to Erika, who I immediately felt at ease with, and who executed my entire vision to a tee. I think I hugged her about 15 times the night of our wedding. Photographers & Videographer: Enrique Morales, EM Weddings Since I’m writing this only days after our wedding I haven’t yet seen any of the photos or video Enrique shot, but I have no doubt the pictures are going to be amazing! Picking a photographer is always challenging and I looked at tons of online portfolios before selecting Enrique. Not only did his style of capturing candid moments really appeal to me, his videography samples had me getting emotional over strangers wedding videos. I also appreciated his super-quick response times and professionalism. His dedication to his work and creating a quality product is immediately apparent when you read other reviews of him on this site. And I experienced it firsthand in working with him. Months ago I created a pinterest board of some of my favorite wedding shots that I shared with Enrique to give him an idea of some things I’d like to capture. In the days before my wedding and on my wedding day, I can’t tell you how thrilled I was to hear him referencing those photos from my Pinterest board and how we were recreating them. Not only did he review that collection which I’d carefully curated but he had actively and thoughtfully considered how he could recreate each of them. He obviously takes his job of giving the bride exactly what she is after very seriously. The team we had included 2 photographers and 3 videographers, all mic’ed up to each other to ensure they are in the proper locations and capturing the most important moments. The fact that they are all in contact like that also worked well for coordinating our wedding party and getting everyone where they needed to be. Even though they were everywhere, I never even noticed them. They camouflaged right in! For the posed photos, Enrique gave great and explicit directions on body positioning to take the best photos and was incredibly efficient. He knew the exact time that we’d get the best light for some beach photos, which ended up allowing me to spend even more time with my guests during the cocktail hour and the reception. One thing I really learned from all of this is that all of the clichés are true – It is really the best day / weekend of your life and it goes by way too fast , like blink of an eye fast, so I am so excited I’ll soon be able to relive it through Enriques beautiful work. A consummate professional through and through, I’d recommend Enrique and his team to all Cabo brides. DJ, Equipment and Lighting– Victor Daniel De Alba, Teeven Technology Event Entertainment Victor and his team were excellent. And really on top of everything. When I mentioned the rocks at Grand Solmar and how Alana said they might need special lighting, he immediately set up an appointment with her to go visit the site and discuss their options, which he then followed up with me on. Besides just the lighting and the DJ equipment, he also provided the equipment for our ceremony and our violinist, asking us all the details we hadn’t even thought of, like if we needed a free standing mike, so our officiant wasn’t holding too many things during the ceremony. And the music at the reception was so good! Perhaps even a little too good! During dinner, one table got up and started dancing before we’d even been able to do speeches, because the music was so good. However Victor quickly corralled them back, and soon enough they were able to break it down for real. When I gave him our Play / Don’t Play list I explained that the ‘To Play’ list wasn’t an explicit ‘Must Play’ but more directional to help him get an idea of what we wanted, and he did just that. He was playing songs that I wouldn’t have even thought to add to the list or had never even heard of before, but they were just perfect and the dance floor was packed all night long. He did an excellent job of mashing up one song into another to transition them. Just really exceeded my expectations in every way. Violinist – Violetta Poletek - www.caboviolin.com Just lovely. We only had her for an hour for the ceremony and immediately before and following it, but she was a complete breeze to work with. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when I walked out to her version of 1000 years. Hair & Makeup: Suzanne Morel My decision to use Suzanne Morel was an easy one based on tons of excellent reviews, and photos upon photos of the beautiful brides and bridesmaids she or her team had worked on. I originally contacted her months in advance and she set up a phone call, asked for photos of what I had in mind, photos of my dress, etc. to get an idea of what would work the best. She was very through with scheduled check-in calls planned in the months and weeks leading up to the wedding. I worked primarily with Jennifer on her team, and she was great to work with. They were extremely flexible, accommodating new requests from my bridesmaids to also get their hair done only days before the wedding. They were also incredibly efficient. They planned start time was 9:30AM with the plan to be completely done by 3PM, and even with a few extra services thrown in, they were completely out of there by 2:30PM. All of my bridesmaids commented on the quality of their work as well as their speed. They asked how I was able to find them and I told them it was from these forums. J Welcome Cruise: Cabo Mar Many guests, including my husband, said this cruise was the best part of the weekend. We had a 3 hour dinner / sunset cruise with an open bar for all of our guests, and it was outstanding. The DJ was playing great music and had everyone dancing all night, the drinks were delicious as was the food. Several times the boat would stop and point out some of the landmarks, like the Arc de Cabo, and give the guests an opportunity to take photos in front of it. Even better, they kept a head count of how many people had gotten on so we knew we weren’t leaving anyone behind. This was also one of my favorite parts of the entire weekend because we got to spend even more time with all of our closest family and friends, and it required virtually no additional work on our part. Besides booking and paying for it, CaboMar handled absolutely everything else, and they did so exquisitely. The boat is a catamaran, so it was a very smooth ride, but I’d still recommend having some Dramamine on hand for the one or two folks that just might not do well on the water. If any brides-to-be have any specific questions about any of these vendors, feel free to ask! Best of luck with your planning!

We are getting married in Huatulco January 2016. We are trying to find some services but not having the best of luck, maybe because Huatulco is not as popular as other areas - hair and make up for the wedding - photo booth if possible - excursion or tours for our family and friends Also any advice on things to do and what you love about Huatulco! Thanks

Hi There, My fiance and I are having our wedding at Grand Solmar Land's End this November 2015. When we looked at the price breakdown, their cake cost is $1400. From what we've learned through visiting multiple resorts, that price seems a little high. So we are considering using an outside vendor for our cake - despite a $200 outside vendor fee. Has any bride run into a similar costly situation, and if so are there any good recommendations you can give? Any tidbit info is much appreciated! Thanks!

Hello all, My fiance and I are planning our destination wedding hopefully early next summer. We were looking into Jamaica and there are some really nice places. Currently, we looked into Round Hill and the Rockhouse. We plan on inviting around 90 people (big Italian family), but realistically think that only half will show. There maybe a child or two, but adult only venues are plausible. Also, we prefer almost anywhere in the Caribbean, Jamaica is not a make or break deal. Our budget is for around 20-25k. Roundhouse quoted us for 35k and we never got an accurate quote from Rockhouse. My question is can anyone provide a place where I can get the most out of our money? Your responses are greatly appreciated! Thank you!!! Mike

Jhankarlo and his team absolutely blew away our expectations for our wedding photographer. His communication was excellent, always responding to our emails and phone calls. His English was perfect as well, which was a blessing for all of the planning we had to do before making our way down to Mexico. We had 8 hours of coverage with Jhankarlo for our reception and ceremony, which was the perfect length of time for us and our guests. Jhankarlo is incredibly creative, and that certainly comes through in his photos - they are just the BEST! We also did a trash the dress shoot at a nearby cenote 2 days after the wedding - it was so much fun! Jhankarlo and his team had such great attitudes and were always there to help us find the right light and pose. The photos he took that day are absolutely incredible and we will cherish them for the rest of our lives. What an incredible gift! Before finding Jhankarlo, I had contacted over 10 photographers in the Riviera Maya. Not a single other photographer came close to the skill and value that Jhankarlo and his team offer. We could not be happier in our choice of wedding photographer. Thank you SO much, Jhankarlo, for everything you have done for us!

Hi Ladies - I don't have a planning thread (drat) so I am posting a new topic and hoping I can get your thoughts on what you'd do. We leave for Jamaica for our wedding in 8 days and our wedding is in 12! Of course we booked our photographer last July and at the time I saw other brides say that she takes a long time to return pictures (like 12 weeks), and I figured I was okay with that if her style was what I liked the best. But ever since I've seen bride after bride after bride complain about how the photographer is completely unresponsive despite any attempts to contact her via email, Facebook or phone. She just does not respond at all. And many brides are waiting 5-6 months to get any of their pictures back, well beyond the maximum 12 weeks it states in the contract. They aren't even getting "sneak peak" photos to use for thank you cards before that. In fact, a bride on this forum today who got married in January hasn't heard a thing from the photographer! Now, every bride also says they love their photos and how they are worth the wait, and that they liked her on their wedding day, but I am MAJORLY regretting my decision to hire her I emailed her on May 8th to touch base and ask her about our timeline and what to expect on our wedding day. I haven't heard back. According to our contract, our final payment was due to her yesterday (2 weeks before our wedding) but I haven't heard from her. Another bride with a wedding a few days before mine DID (finally) hear from her, so I know she is alive! My fiancé tried calling her today and left a voicemail. I just don't think not contacting your client - or responding to their friendly email - in the month before their wedding is acceptable and I don't want to send her our $2,000 payment on a hope and a prayer. If she doesn't deliver my photos by the 12 weeks, she has my money so what am I going to do about it? This doesn't seem to be an issue with any other Jamaican photographers, and this issue is abundant and consistent among brides who have used her, so I just really regret giving her my money. She has a $720 deposit from us already. Hopefully my fiancé can get ahold of her and talk about our concerns (he is more assertive than I am) and if he isn't getting a bad feeling maybe ask for our deposit back? It seems unlikely she would return it. We may be able to find another photographer available at the last minute (or use the so-so resort photog), but then we'd be out the $720. I just picture her showing up on my wedding day and already having a negative feeling about her and it just stinks. Everyone says your rapport with your photographer is important and she is going to be hanging around us all day! I really do not want to send her the money and hope for the best...any other thoughts? Am I making too big of a deal out of this and I should just trust that it will be fine?

The Importance of Posting Wedding Recaps and Reviews
MarieSamSanchezPhoto posted a article in BDW Website
It's hard to believe that it's been almost seven years since I became a member on the Best Destination Wedding Forum. I don't really remember how I came upon the site, but I do recall scouring through endless internet search results in hopes that I would find some magic elixir AKA insightful article or website to help me plan my dream destination wedding. Because let's face it, planning a wedding thousands of miles away from home is really hard, especially when you want it to be just perfect. Thankfully, one of those hundreds of internet searches led me the right way and I happened to click on the BDW site. Now here I am, on the cusp of celebrating my 7-year wedding anniversary this summer and I still look back at my wedding photos every few months, remember and missing what was truly the best experience/vacation of my life. A huge part of what made the planning process so much easier was being able to rely on reviews and shared insight from past brides and grooms. I relied on this information to book my lodging, venue, caterer, planner, hair/makeup artist, photographer and videographer, etc. etc. -- pretty much all key components to making my wedding vision come to life. Think about how many times you've looked at reviews on Yelp before you dine at a restaurant, or how you rely on reviews before purchasing something off of Amazon. Honestly, I'm not sure how I survived without online reviews in the past, but these days they are a huge catalyst when it comes to guiding your decisions as a consumer. That said, it's always important to also look at a vendor or venues overall reviews, because let's face it, there are some people in this world who are simply hard to please no matter the circumstance. So if you see a vendor you really love, but come upon a bad review, look at their ratings overall -- especially their most recent ones. And don't hesitate to ask that vendor about any negative or less favorable reviews -- it is your right as the consumer to voice your concerns if you're potentially going to give them your business. In the same breathe, it's also important to consider what you're going to say when you post a negative review. Remember, once it's on the internet, it's usually there to stay and if warranted, there can be some legal repercussions taken against you. Here are some awesome tips shared on the Off Beat Bride website by a former bride who went through a harrowing experience after posting an angry vendor review that actually resulted in her facing legal action. Tips before posting a "crazy mad review": Think long and hard. Be sensible. Be aware of your wording — saying that they "stole" from you is a defamatory statement. If this is true, chances are you've already notified the authorities. If they broke the contract, make sure you have proof and are already seeking legal assistance. Most importantly, don't air your dirty laundry on a blog. The tips go on to suggest that warning other potential clients about a vendor, should be done with style and grace. But one must also be careful of accusatory statements — "posting that you were displeased with the services rendered is one thing; whereas posting that they stole your dress or car or grandma's walker is a serious accusation and you should really be following up with the police, not a wedding blog." Remember, "if a vendor is serious about pursuing legal action, they will do so." (To see the Off Beat Bride article in its entirety, click here.) So while this forum is an awesome resource to lean on as you plan your wedding, once you're back from your dream wedding, don't forget to post a photo recap and write up your honest and detailed review -- quick or long. Your opinion is valuable to so many current and future destination wedding couples, plus we wanna know how fabulous your day was too!!! To add your post-wedding reviews to the BDW site, add your reviews to these sections: Resort Reviews Vendor Reviews If you planned your wedding with the help of the BDW community we would love to hear from you. Contact us at [email protected] if you are interested in sharing your wedding experience with us. Your story and photos will be added to the site's Real Weddings section.- 2 comments

Hello Past and Present Brides! I am currently in the early stages of planning a destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas for 2016. The wedding size will range from 40-60 guests. I am feeling slightly overwhelmed with the process and have decided to look into wedding planners. I never thought I would be the type of person to need a wedding planner since I am typically well organized and like planning events however; working full time and trying to set key milestones is becoming a challenge. Brides that used or are using a wedding planner: What are you thoughts on benefits vs. costs? Are you getting what you expected? What is the typically cost and payment structure for a wedding planner? How did you decide on who to work with? Are they getting you better prices on wedding costs? Brides that have decided against it: What are your thoughts on benefits vs. costs? Are you wishing you had one during particular parts in the planning? If so, what? Have you had any instances in negotiating where you think a wedding planner could have gotten you better deals or vendors? I am interested in hearing from everyone especially Cabo brides! Cheers!

We know, having your beach wedding ceremony at sunset seems like the most romantic wedding on earth. But at the Caribbean the sun does not set at the seaside and our experience throughout the years of taking artistique photographs learned that the sun is quickly blocked by surrounding clouds (even if they do create beautiful postcard skies before they take away the sun) or buildings (particularly in resorts), long before the actual sunset. The sun also goes down in a blink in tropical regions such as the Riviera Maya. This all together makes that you do not enjoy that magical moment very long and by the end of the ceremony it will be dark, disabling you to have those lifetime memory pictures of you and your freshly new husband. Therefore, instead of planning your ceremony right at sunset, schedule it one to two hours before. It will allow you to have wonderful shots with rays of a late afternoon sun and the ceremony will still be breathtaking! After the bridal session, the dark blue skies of entering night are the best backdrops for us photographers, to shoot the cocktail/reception set-ups. Shawna + Jerome Ashley + Scott If you really want to have the ceremony during sunset, the best thing to do is to preview a bridal/TTD session before the ceremony or another day later on, as explained in our article ‘Bride and Groom, a first sight story’.

Hi Ladies! My aunt is a florist and event planner (in south america) and will be attending the wedding. If we can get a hold of fresh flowers, she would like to make my bouquet, bridesmaids bouquets and boutonnieres. Does anyone know of any places that we can buy some once we are in Cancun and/or whether the Moon Palace will let you bring in flowers and do this?

Hello! I wanted to put a post on here because I know when I started planning my destination wedding last year, I had so many questions and concerns and I found it so helpful to read reviews on here. I just got married on November 11, 2014 in Cabo, and I am still in Cabo San Lucas enjoying our mini honeymoon now. It was such a scare for everyone when hurricane Odile hit Cabo, especially for bride to be's and the uncertainty of flying here, but the saying is true that Cabo is unstoppable and you would never know it happened other than some cosmetic damage. Here is all of our vendors that we used, our budget, guest count, etc. I cannot wait to receive all of my photos so that I can post just how beautiful everything was. Cabo wedding Budget: $30,000 USD Wedding Size: 55 people Wedding Coordinator: Illeana Reyes at Romantic Cabo Weddings – 10/10 A+ Our first and foremost, and most important review goes to our wedding coordinator Illeana Reyes at Romantic Cabo Weddings. We researched a lot of coordinators and her website was not the most up to date, but she was quick to respond, she was very detail oriented, and she makes you feel very comfortable so I knew right away she was the one, do not let the website fool you! She recommended every single one of our vendors, and the team she brought together for our day was absolutely OUTSTANDING. I cannot give her enough credit for how unbelievably attentive she was from day one and how she made all of our dreams become a reality. I must start by saying, I am a very A type personality, so it was very hard for me to just leave things up to chance. I needed constant assurance and I would (annoyingly I know lol) send endless emails and photos as to what I wanted. We planned for just under one year and she was always available via email, she phoned to check in constantly, she offered many different options to choose from, and closer to the date she kept solidifying plans, getting vendor contracts, etc, she thought of every last detail. Illeana also assured us that she only recommends vendors that she has worked with in the past, and I am so glad we put all our faith in her because not a single thing went wrong, every vendor was on time, made it to rehearsals, kept in contact, no issues with payment, and the whole day went as planned with ZERO glitches! I hope everyone can use her out of all of the vendors because she was just a blessing. Jack & Jill/Bachelor & Bachelorette/Stag & Stagette Party: Pirate Cruise Ship: 9/10 A- Illeana even helped put together our jack & jill/bachelor & bachelorette party when we super last minute asked her when we arrived to Cabo. It was a sunset cruise open bar on a pirate ship, and it was such a hilarious and great time, our guests really enjoyed this and she made it all happen and confirmed in one hour for only $50USD per person! Talk about above and beyond service. We bought those Cabo San Lucas bandanas on the beach for everyone to wear, plus glow sticks, and it was a ball! This is the only picture I have so far that I attached. It was definately a fun experience for our whole group to bond together on night one and there were so many costumes that made for great photos. Venue: Cabo Del Sol: 10/10 A+ The photos do not do the venue justice; it is even more stunning in person and I cried as soon as we went to visit the venue and saw the beach and another wedding was being set up it was so beautiful. The wedding coordinator there, Luzma, is so welcoming and makes you feel so special and as if you are the only person she is concentrating on at all times. We did our ceremony on the beach, cocktail hour on the golf greens, and the reception in the clubhouse. I highly recommend this. There was a huge bridal lounge and a groom’s lounge to get ready in for the daytime, with our own personal waiter. Everyone had their own lockers and Luzma set up all of our dresses, suits, and accessories for photos. Our guests were shuttled straight to the ocean golf course greens when they initially arrived, and greeted with special flavored water. We did a sunset ceremony at 4pm, it was not too hot and not too windy either because the beach is privately enclosed in a semi circle space by the rocks, the waves were crashing down and it was such a romantic setting. Our guests had a shoe valet to remove their shoes before walking on the beach, and brushes to brush of the sand when they were coming off. The cocktail hour on the golf greens was set up with our signature drinks, open bar started, and popsicles were being handed out to cool off our guests and was such a nice touch. All of our guests were then shuttled to the clubhouse via their golf cart limos! So cute! The dance floor overlooked the ocean, had an open ceiling, and it was right next to the bar. The dinner service was in their clubhouse. All of our guests were floored at how many servers there were and how the staff was at everyone’s side at any given moment. We did a plated dinner service and every course was absolutely delicious. For example, between courses there was a raspberry sorbet that was served on a large ice block to keep the sorbet cold. Very impressed! We did 7 hours of open bar, which is charged per person, and it was definitely worth doing so we knew upfront how much we were paying. This venue is definitely a must! Photographer: Gilda Badillo: 10/10 A+ We met Gilda before the wedding at Cabo Del Sol so she could take us around and go over all the shots she recommended, and she wrote down all of the pictures we wanted. We did the first look and also did our family photos first before the ceremony. She was a total professional, nailed every shot and kept us on time. She also was not afraid to break a sweat! She would get on her elbows and knees to get the perfect picture and she would show us some photos as the night went on and I am so excited to see the final results. Her assistant was always where she could not be, to assure they both got every photo together. Our guests said the two of them were taking photos of our set up before we got there, and also of all our guests interacting. We could not be more thankful of those moments we did not see! Videographer: Jorge Ibarra: 10/10 A+ Gilda recommended Jorge, and she said they always work together on weddings. When we looked at Jorge’s website and saw his vimeos, we were sold! We also met him before the wedding at Cabo Del Sol and he went over the timeline and filmed our first look, all the way to our dinner service speeches. We could tell his team and Gilda’s team had worked together often because their communication and chemistry worked so great together and they made us feel so relaxed. The video cameras were never in the way, and Jorge would remove the microphones whenever Gilda was taking photos and he remembered the little details that we would not know about. We can’t wait to see our video! Floral: Sergio Ferras at Flowers & Events Décor: 10/10 A+ We sent Illeana our photos of exactly everything we wanted and she passed on a message to her floral recommendation. I wanted all white flowers, the white urn pedestals with pomanders at the entrance, the aisle chairs to be lined with bouquets and rose petals down the aisle, as well as the ribbon tied off at the entrance, a bamboo chuppah with white fabric and bouquets tied to all 4 corners; I sent a photo of the bride bouquet and the maids bouquet and grooms boutonnières, and I am not kidding when I say, they matched the floral IDENTICALLY. Everything was as planned and as pictured. They did not miss a single thing! Our cocktail hour had the floral bouquets, and our dinner service we reused a lot of our bouquets at centerpieces and table displays, and they supplied vases and cylinders, votives with tons of candles. It was stunning. Dj, sound & lighting: Victor and Teevan Entertainment: 10/10 A We sent Victor a list of songs that we wanted for the ceremony, wedding party entrance, first dances, etc. He got all of our songs except for the one that our wedding party walked down to, but it was okay because he played a good back up song. He supplied a sound system, the lighting for the dance floor, and one thing I really recommend for a beach wedding, is the white acrylic aisle board to walk down. This is because it was very difficult to walk on the beach even in bare feet, we looked like penguins during rehearsal ha ha, so it was a last minute splurge but well worth the incurred cost and just made the setting even that much more beautiful. The reason why we were so impressed was because for the actual dancing dj hours, we just told him a genre we liked and did not send him a list of songs, we just put our faith in him and it was as if he had our iPod playlist! They were all current up to date songs, and he kept the party going all night long. Minister: Rev Diego A Vidal: 10/10 A Illeana recommended Diego. He sent us an email with options for the ceremony, he checked in with us before the wedding to see if there was anything else we wanted to be said, he took our vows, and he said a special message to our guests and us. He was humorous, yet professional and kept the ceremony personal to us. He gave our coordinator our marriage certificate when he was done and it was easy as pie. Transportation: Leticia with Impala Cabo: 10/10 A Our transportation was perfect! They had shuttle service for our guests all night long and picked us up all day because we were all leaving the Riu at different times. They were all very professional, timely, and they had very nice vehicles. They also had a special private vehicle for us at the very end of the night. One of our guests became "sick" at the end of the night and they happily took her home and we were very grateful. Hotel Accommodations: Riu Sante Fe & Palace: 7/10 C+ We picked the Riu Sante Fe & the Palace because it was a very affordable option for such a large wedding party, and it was central to downtown Cabo. I will say, we were the very first group to arrive since Hurricane Odile on the grand opening on November 6, which we did not know, we thought it had been opened since October 9 for the Palace and October 16 for Sante Fe, and the Sante Fe was not yet ready to be open. The Palace was much better. We have stayed at both the Riu Sante Fe and the Palace before and have never had any problems, which is why we had our party stay here. It was really unfortunate the hurricane hit them so hard, but it was great that they had repaired the Riu to almost the exact same condition as before and the day-to-day staff really was trying their best. Our rooms were definitely very musty smelling, we all stayed in building 7, others at the Palace who could not stay at the Sante Fe, the first night was so unbearable we had to lay towels down to cover all the sheets and the smell, and we switched our room 3 times until one was decent enough to sleep in. A lot of our guests never received the opportunity to switch their rooms and had to sleep in the smell. Most of the safes were not working as of yet. And unfortunately, the staff that was never helpful was the front desk staff and several complaints were made. We had a group of 55 people, and they did not have any suite upgrades for the bride and groom and told us it was because they were still under maintenance. One of our groomsmen also paid a fee of $100USD to have our room filled with flowers, champagne and candles on the wedding night when we came home, and they forgot the champagne and candles. They also tried to charge all of us 630 pesos each for cutting off our wristbands on our wedding day, which we had to wait 1 hour to speak to a manager to get that sorted out and showed proof that we all still had our wristbands. It is an affordable option for what it is worth, but if you are looking for top notch quality this is not the place to be. Mini honeymoon hotel accomodation: Sandos Finisterra: 9/10 A- After our wedding and one week stay, all of our guests returned home and we transferred to the Sandos Finisterra. This place is 5 star and beautiful. They got hit really hard and they were still under maintenance and repairs, which is the only reason why we did not give them A+! We were immediately greeted with champagne, top notch service, upgraded to the honeymoon jacuzzi suite that over looked the entire beach and marina on the top floor, and they had premium liquor. It was very modern, a boutique style hotel, and all the staff were great. DIY Extras We did a lot of DIY projects for our day that we brought to Cabo with us and Illeana and Luzma set up for us. -We had the dinner menus printed on doilies for everyone’s individual plate and stamped in our wedding color (seafoam green) and gray (our other wedding color) table runners. -Instead of place cards, we had maracas made in our wedding color, with our guests name on the handle. We loved the maracas because it was multipurpose: it was a place card, a wedding favor, and our guests would shake their maracas if they wanted us to kiss instead of clinking glasses. -We placed disposable cameras on everyone’s table for party photos. -We brought down fans in our wedding colors, which were placed on everyone’s chair during the ceremony. -We printed reserved cards with the names for family members to sit at during the ceremony and Illeana taped them to their chairs. -We had a Go Pro on a selfie stick for people to pass around and take videos with wedding advice. -Our table numbers were in white picture frames with seafoam green centers. -At the entrance of our reception, Illeana and Luzma had a table set up. It had our seating chart, which was also in a large white picture frame with seafoam green centers, we had the letters L O V E in white wood blocks, we had the game JENGA as our guest book, and we used SCRABBLE to spell out “Please sign our Jenga guest book”. -We also made welcome out of town bags which consisted of a thank you card, invitations to rehearsals or parties, an itinerary for the week plus our wedding program on the other side, Advil, Pepto-Bismol, mints, chapstick, lubricant (for the single guests ha ha), Band-Aids, alcohol swabs, Emergen-C with a stir stick, sunglasses, and a Do Not Disturb door hanger. It was hard for me to settle on a destination wedding because it is an incurred cost for all of our family members and friends to have to pay for their flights and take vacation time. But ALL of our guests thanked us over and over again for having a destination wedding and said they woul love if we did this every year ha ha, and if you are from Canada like we are, November is the the best time of year to get away from the gloomy weather and get some sun! Aside from hurricane season. It is very rare for Cabo to experience such a hit like that. It was so much fun and we created memories to last a life time, so if you are unsure of whether or not a destination is a good idea, I would say it definately 1000% is!

So excited for our wedding Jan. 14 in Tulum. We are having trouble choosing a venue. We saw Ahau and La Zebra. Both looked great, but now are thinking of Be Tulum and El Pez. We like El Pez since the ceremony location is private, but like the other locations for the receptions. Our coordinator thinks Be Tulum may be a good spot since it's towards the end of the beach and semi-private ceremony location. I'm not sure if it looks to modern. 90 guests. Any other brides with big weddings?

I used Emporio Arte in Cabo and they were reasonably priced and AMAZING! Alina was the best. I sent her pics of what I liked and she made everything perfectly. She was always quick to respond to emails and gave great recommendations. We got a lot of positive comments from guests about how beautiful and fresh the flowers were. They did our corsages, boutioneres, all bouquets, centerpieces, candle decorations, huppah, hair flowers, and our cake decorations! They exceeded my expectations by far!

Hello other engaged people! Congratulations. I've searched some and haven't seen any posts on weddings held at Verana, in the town of Yelapa (not too far from Puerto Vallarta, MX). Anyway, I'd love insight from other people who have or will be getting married at that location. I'll be looking for someone do do makeup and hair, and we are also going to need a photographer and DJ. I'd love to hire someone local for photography, since it should be cheaper than flying in someone from the U.S., but we're open. I look forward to hearing from someone/anyone, and to sharing what I find out. Thanks! Jolene

So I'm wondering if featured vendors are able to delete bad reviews from this website, best destination wedding?! A vendor (not name dropping) I intend to book for services, for a LARGE amount of money had nothing but great reviews on here.. Then under new post section here, a recent terrible review of them came up. So before I did the anything irrational, I copied the link and emailed the vendor, asking them what was up in a kind but direct nature, We talked it over he assured me that the same thing would not happen to me etc. But I log on this forum hours later and now the review is gone, its been deleted. This I confirmed. So whats up with that? Can vendors pay to use this site for advertising and then have control to delete negative reviews? That's crazy! ... If true. I know some places websites like Angies List under certain agreements let companies delete negative reviews from their profile..

Ok Brides, After Planning my wedding for 8 months, I wanted to share some info. There will be no name dropping but just a bit of insight and encouragement. If you are into hotel ceremonies and receptions bc you like it, then this post is not for you... no offense, truly. If you feel you have to have your wedding at a hotel bc there is no way that you can pull it all together, take a deep breath and know that - YES YOU CAN. One thing I like about weddings is not how good the cake is or what the bouquet looks like, all very important details yes, but your guests won't care, I promise What I like seeing is the couple's creativity. Their own little personal flair that is unique incorporated into their wedding. The thing you see and say oh my gosh that is so them! I have a friend who is a sous chef and for her table top centerpiece she had large vases each filled differently with asparagus, or some with slices oranges, then water, then flowers on top. her own touch. So to be told that if I have my wedding at a resort I will pay 3k-8k and they will take care of everything and in doing so I get 1 choice of their very limited options that are tired and worn out? No thanks. So upon my 8 months I have learned a lot. There are many many many options in Mexico to marry. There are even more to have a reception. I had been working with a venue directly, they promised me one thing in email. Not just the manager but the chef etc. I hired a wedding planner and she told me opposite. When things just didn't sound right from the wedding planner and the venue was telling me something else than she, it just got to be a big mess. And I had to just walk away. Did I really really want to have my wedding there? YES. Did I like my wedding planner? YES Did I feel that continuing to invest my time and potentially my money into either? NO. WC response was that it might be hard for Americans and Canadians to understand but the wedding business in Mexico is and I quote "cut throat" Do I want to give my business to cut throat people? Should I blindly just accept things that my gut instinct is telling me to be wrong just bc I think that my wedding has be perfect and held to someone else's standards of acceptability? I have looked at many these vendors, ones that have the big websites etc and you know what? They could not care two.... about me at all! Wedding ministers not responding, DJ's trying to hustle me for bigger packages, venues changing pricing etc. You know what my previous wedding planner told me? That my venue didn't care about what they agreed to and that if I didn't like the changes, oh well the venue isn't pressed for brides and doesn't need my business so I better just accept it. Oh yes. She did. That's not what I dreamed about as a little girl. And isn't it suppose to be our day? So with trusting my God given instinct and 29 years of experience I went in the opposite direction and I can not tell you how happy I am. I have found the most wonderful venue that is so friendly. Gives me all the choices I want. I can have a tab bar at the end of the night, I can have pre paid bar packages, I can bring my own liquor, I can, and I have created my own menu. I gave pics of the canapés I would like to have served and they have quoted me prices for those. They have beautiful furniture I can use at no extra cost. etc etc etc. In short- they rock. I have found an amazing wedding officiant, Petra Rattue (ok I named dropped but shes awesome) Yes I actually look forward to taking a walk to the local markets the morning of my wedding with my family and picking out flowers and creating my own bouquet. Something my previous wedding planner insisted I shouldn't be bothered with on my wedding day.I look forward setting up a couple table decorations. I look forward to it all bc it's what I want and it's my day. May not be what you want, but for me it's everything. But what do you want??? Did you start with a dream and now find yourself settling? Your wedding day is yours. I think vendors and wedding coordinators are awesome, if it were not for them we would still be getting married in our homes with no extras (totally acceptable too) but for the love of humanity, they need to be honest and held accountable. You can make your wedding day your own. Just follow your heart <3 Hope this has encouraged you. Lisa

Wedding site planning refers to the organizational stage of the wedding process. It involves the organization of all vendors who might be or will be involved in the wedding day. This is done by arranging the compositional elements for the event such location, catering, design, decor, flowers, musicians and all vendors in a comfortable place where the couple will listen, analyze and define their best options according to their tastes and needs. We are happy to show you a slideshow of our last wedding site planning in our offices. Happy planning to all of you!

Hello everyone, I don't know if this even exist but does anyone have a list (or made one) of outside vendors that Dreams Cancun allow on their resort? I know vendor fees are charged but I'm trying to make a budget of the additional items that I want that the resort doesn't necessarily provide. (for ex: Flowers, Linens, Music, Photography and Makeup). Anything else I'm forgetting? Also- for those who have had their weddings recently- I have a couple questions for you. 1) How was the DJ (that comes along with the package)? They don't allow you to bring other DJS or live bands, right? I've read mixed reviews and I'm come from a family that likes to dance. It would be bummer to do a DW and have mediocre music. 2) Food/ Cocktail Hour- How was it? Has anyone been able to attend their cocktail with their guest and do pictures later? If so, how did you structure it? One pet peeve of mine is missing parts of the wedding reception. A lot of couples get their pictures taken and as a result, they miss cocktail hour. I would prefer to be right along with my guests chatting it up and enjoying the cocktails and hors'doeuvres. 3) Has anyone tried to incorporate fruit into their centerpieces? If so, where do you get it from? 4) For those who had their reception in the El Patio and/ or Portofino, was it worth it? The price seems a bit expensive to have for a private area so just wanted to hear your thoughts. 5) When arriving from the airport, are they still doing construction on the long road before you get to the resort? I just remember it being very bumpy coming in. 6) Looking for creative ideas for wedding favors (other than maracas), any ideas you can throw out? Sorry for the long post but any answers you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
