Pros: Beautiful Wedding, Excellent Service
Cons: Size of the resort, Check in process, Communication

Communication (C-) - started out horrible.  we must have dealt with 5 different people throughout the time we booked until the time we arrived.  communication in the beginning was slow to nil.  Until we received an email from our planner, Edith about 2 months before the wedding.  She was awesome, thorough, quick to respond and took care of all the planning details up until the time we received our coordinator 30 days before the wedding.

Check In Process (F)  - this was so bad we were really hoping it was not be indicative of the rest of our trip.  We had booked at Moon Grand for a room with a king side bed.  When we checked in, they said they only had a room with 2 double beds!  We said that was unacceptable and asked to change it.  They said there would be a room with a king bed ready on Saturday, 3 days from our check in because they just had a large group of 2000 people come in!  Seriously, they want the bride and groom in double beds?  Again, we would not budge and miraculously the manager said a room with a king size bed would be ready in 2 hours.  No problem, we grab something to eat and are taken to our room, which was large and beautiful.  there was no view but we didn't pay for a view so it didn't really matter.  While preparing the welcome bags in our room, we get a phone call that we will be receiving a free upgrade to a presidential suite to make up for the error the next morning!  So that was definitely a plus and we were ecstatic for the upgrade to such a beautiful room with a view and that they went above and beyond without us asking.

Rooms - (A) The rooms come with CHI products, shampoos, lotions, hair dryer, straightener, etc.  The grand rooms are the largest and newest.  The rest of our wedding were booked in sunrise because that is where all the activities are.  The rooms are much smaller, but no body seemed to mind.

Resort Credits (B+) - Most of our guests received $750 in resort credit and my husband and I received $1500 because we had a longer stay.  The credits are very difficult to use up since they restrict what you can use them on. Many of us did the swimming with dolphins experience ( I believe $130 credits per person) which was so worth it.  They get you afterwards if you want to purchase the pictures though.  They do not do any of the outside excursions on Sundays so we were not able to use those since that was everyones only full free day. I got biosilk products and facial creams which are nice.  Some of our guests also got the tequila.  And the girls used the salon the day of the wedding.  The jewelry is way to expensive in the stores and you do not get enough credits to cover anything they sell. Just be aware you must pay the 11% sales tax whenever you use the credits.  You can also go on the timeshare tour and you will receive additional resort credits to use on anything.

Resort Size (C-) - Moon Palace is huge!  It is practically 3 resorts in 1.  We knew this because we had done a site tour of the resort before we booked our wedding here.  I was concerned about the size but it was the best bang for everyones buck so we went with it.  We purposely placed 90% of our guests in sunrise so they can be where all the action is.  We did not book them in Nizuc because I had heard the rooms are old there.  My husband and I stayed on Grand because we liked the rooms better and wanted a place to escape from everyone if we needed to!  Looking back, I would probably have sucked it up and stayed on sunrise to be close to everyone because we were always taking the shuttles back and forth just wasting time.  A few of our older guests thought there was too much walking involved for them even to get from their room to the lobby in sunrise.  It really is huge and when its hot out, I can understand their gripes.

Wedding Coordinator (A) - We had Emy as our wedding coordinator.  She was very nice and accommodating to us.  We had 3 suitcases of decor for her to put out for the ceremony and the reception and she had no problem with it, did everything perfectly and did not charge us a penny for set up.  Our meeting lasted about an hour and half.  When we found out the night before that 4 people would not be attending, my husband went to her the morning of the wedding to make some changes.  She was accommodating but still wanted to charge us for their meals and the extra cost for the additional hour for the table we were eliminating.  He had to get the manager involved, but at the end, we were not charged.  But he spent 2 hours at the wedding office dealing with that the day of the wedding.  The day of the wedding, Emy showed up at our room exactly aty 5pm and helped us all get to the ceremony site.  She stayed throughout the ceremony and helped everyone find the reception site.  But then she disappeared when it was time for the bridal party announcements and one of our guests actually had to step up and coordinate with the DJ so we could be announced.  Then Emy came back, stayed for majority of the reception until we cut the cake and then left.  We met with her the next day to collect any belongings she had.  We tipped her becuase she had been very accommodating to all our issues.

Rehearsal Dinner (A+)- We had the rehearsal dinner for 27 people at Arrecefis in Nizuc.  This was a brazilian buffet and we all thought it was great.  the food was delicious and we had a table set up on the outside patio so it felt private.  They kept bringing out different style meats until we no longer wanted any more food.  It was supposed to be 2 hours but we stayed about 3 and nobody said anything.

Zuniga (B+) - we only ordered 2 strings of lanterns, xmas tree lights for the palm trees and centerpieces and they charged us a $250 set up fee.  we asked them to put out some of our own decor and they did with no problem and included it with the set up fee cost.  communication with them was great,  we would have ordered more but they were a little expensive.

PSAV (A) - communication over email was great.  Price was decent - $1200 for 4 hours.  they showed up on time.  we had provided them with a list of music so all they really had to do was follow the list.  i didn't like that they cut off some songs before they were over.  we never really spoke to anyone at the reception. i wish they would have at least introduced themselves.

Huellas Del Caribe (A+++++++) - we actually hired these photographers and videographers from the BDW website even though they are based out of Dominican Republic, I loved their work and had to have them.  Their prices were great and their communication was amazing.  Arnaud answered emails within minutes sometimes!  They traveled to Cancun and becuase we purchased such a large package including photography, videography, trash the dress, photobooks, etc, they did not charge us a travel fee!  I would hire them again in a heartbeat and they were the best vendor we had thus far!  I have not received the photos yet to comment, but we saw a few after they were shot and looked fantastic!  They were the preferred vendor at the Palace Resort in Punta Cana, so we got away with only paying day passes for them vs. the outrageous $500 vendor fee.

Cocktail Hour (Did not attend)- at Bugambilia gazebo.  We originally were told only ceremonies can be performed in gazebos but since we reserved the garden right outside the gazebo they let us move in so our guests would have some shade.  We were not at the cocktail but I heard to food was good, we had a mix of mexican and international hor dourves.  The only downfall was nobody directed our guests from cocktail to the beach for the ceremony so nobody knew where to go.

Ceremony & Rabbi Stephen Spiegel (A+++++)- Our ceremony was on the beach at Dolphin Beach in Nizuc.  We chose the complimentary package since we did not like the other colin cowie pacakges and thought they were too expensive anyway. The ceremony was my favorite part of the wedding day.  I loved being on the beach with the ocean in the background.  Rabbi Steven Spiegel was our officiant ( he is now the preferred rabbi for Palace). He was outstanding, very personable, we communicated via skype many times before we met in Cancun.  He actually brought me to tears at the ceremony with the kind words he said.  we invited him and his wife annette to stay for the reception and they were so grateful.

Carriage Ride (A+)- a MUST!  My mom and I enjoyed this time together and the pictures came out amazing!  I definitely felt like a princess!

Reception (A) - Held at Bugambilia Terrace.  We heard that when the guests got there, they were SWARMED by mosquitos.  the waiters were telling everyone to pour tequila on themselves so they would not get bit.  It was really bad, and some people also were sharing their OFF spray.  As the sun set, the mosquito problem went away (Thank goodness) but not before my legs were bitten up!  The space was nice, right near a fountain.  It was very humid but that was to be expected.  We were near some rooms and there was 1 woman who came out on her balcony and was dancing along to our music.  The reception went from 8pm - 11pm (was supposed to start at 7pm but we started late due to some hiccups).  It was a good amount of time for the party.

Salon/Spa (C) - The bridal party and moms used resort credits for their wedding makeup and hair.  This started out really great, everyones hair and makeup looked really good.  I just do not suggest asking them to apply fake eyelashes.  This was a disaster for me, my mother in law and sister in law.  The makeup artist spilt the glue on my face, which was okay because at least it peeled off.  But he got glue in my sister in law and mother in laws eyes.  My sis in law said she had a red eye for while and had to wash it out and redo her makeup.  This delayed us for the rest of the day because we were waiting for her.  My mother in law got pink eye the last night of here trip, I am not sure if it was related to the glue incident.  Because of this, I decided to cancel my appointment for the trash the dress session.  The salon manager gave me a hard time because it was not within 24 hours of the appointment and wanted to charge me for the services anyway.  I had to deal with the public relations office and spent a lot of time with them instead of with my guests but they finally agreed to not charge me for the unused services.

Overall (B+) - There were too many issues than I would have liked that we encountered but I have to say that I was pleased with the way the issues were resolved.  Overall I loved my wedding and would recommend Moon Palace to other brides.  I will say that once you get to the resort they will try to make your experience and wedding day great and they want you to be happy.  I also think the price was pretty fair and you can keep it very low, it just depends on how much extras you want.

Great review. Was it extra to go past 10pm? I thought I read somewhere that events outside had to end at 10pm . . . Also, what flavor cake did you request? How did it taste? Thanks for your help in advance.

we had to pay an additional $60 per table for an additonal hour. We also had to fight to allow us to go past 10pm because they said that was the latest time allowed. However, we saw a wedding on the grand terrace still going strong way past 11pm and we complained to our coordinator. She said that was a mexican wedding (I assume for a local) and they have different rules. We did not think this was fair and she caved in and gave us to 11pm but no later. The cake was vanilla with chantilly cream and it was delicious!! i wish i had a whole slice! if you have any other questions please ask.
