  1. @@jeffandrobyn Thank you for your super helpful tips and info about travel agents! I've decided to go with one. My sister's good friend is a TA and handled her daughter's destination wedding in Mexico. I'm hoping that she will actually be great and helpful considering she is a good friend of my sister's and she seems to really trust her. I guess this can be really great or can turn awkward if we aren't happy with her , I'm thinking positively though!
  2. Thanks @ ! Question, are you using a TA? I'm on the fence and wondering if it's really necessary to bother with. What about outside vendors - photography and DJ? Looking at the Blue Lens photography the resort uses, they seem decent! I know some resorts people end up hiring else where. I'm trying to avoid increasing costs with outside vendors but want to make sure the resort services are good quality!
  3. @@jeffandrobyn I ended up going with Valentin Imperial! Their communication with me has been quick and efficient since I reached out to them. I've checked with other brides past and present who have had wonderful experiences with them so I felt comfortable with the choice - we were leaning more towards anyway. I have heard great things about the service, food, and the price for room stay seems to be better for my guests. I'm still on the fence about going through a TA. My sister has a good friend who is a TA but I'm wondering if it's necessary. I know many of my guests will book on their own. If they use a TA would those that utilize the TA be able to use a payment plan? That may be helpful for some. I know I need to decide asap! Unfortunately i know we won't be able to visit the site I would hate if there were other weddings going on at the same time! I'll think positive and hope for the best.
  4. Thanks for the support guys! I'm feeling a little better. I told my mother that I deserve to do something different without her making me feel guilty about it. I also said this isn't all about the wedding, it's about them celebrating our new life as husband and wife. She apologized so that helps.
  5. So my mother is making me feel guilty for doing a destination wedding since my grandmother would most likely not attend. I even offered to have her come for the legal ceremony here (which I didn't even want anyone to know about or be there for). However, I explained that I will not be wearing white or exchanging rings in city hall as this will be for the ceremony. I explained that I will do an at home celebration/reception for those unable to attend where we will show the video....but she wants her to see actual ceremony not watch it on tape. Anyone else's family give them a hard time with this? How did you deal with it? I know I can't accommodate everyone but now I can't help but feel guilty.
  6. @ Your comment made me feel so much better! The fact that you've been there more than once and decided to marry there says a lot. I sent in my info to make my deposit today :-) So far their communication with me as been excellent which has made me feel pretty good about working with them. I know I will have questions as I think more in detail about the planning so I will definitely be reaching out for feedback!
  7. I'm in the process of locking down a location - Valentin Imperial Maya July 2015! I haven't heard back yet from other resorts but Excellence also recently provided me with wedding package info. However, I think the price for room stay at Valentin will be easier on their pockets. Have to admit, I am very anxious about committing to a location! As much as I would like to get the ball rolling on this planning process, I'm hoping I'm making a good choice here! Most of the forums for brides of Valentin are super old and haven't been touched in a while. Anyone recently married here or will be soon?
  8. @@tygrrlily @@calgarybride2015 Thanks ladies, It looks like we will be changing resorts :-) My FI doesn't mind spending time at resorts, he just didn't care to get away from the guests - he's super social whereas I enjoy peace and quiet after a while. He agreed it would be nice to go elsewhere for some solo time in case guests do make a vacation out of it. I'm sure we would do a couple of excursions - we like to have a balance of doing absolutely nothing and having a little adventure
  9. This port has help me a little! I'm planning on getting married July 2015. I will be booking this week, most likely the Valentin Imperial Maya. Have been making myself crazy just researching places so I'll be happy once a spot is actually booked. Your post gave me a little guidance as to what else needs to be done so thanks
  10. Awesome! What's your planning experience like so far? I have ruled out Dreams because we would like adults only. I have reached out to Excellence, The Royal, Valentin, and Secrets Capri. Too many?? Haha, I think we are leaning towards Valentin but I will see if I hear back from the others. What made you choose Excellence?
  11. Yea i think I will be talking him into at least changing resorts for a change of scenery and have a solo getaway as husband and wife...without the guests lingering around lol
  12. Definitely an adults only resort with a room stay rate not super high for my guests. Other than that it's hard to pinpoint specifics! I want a simple yet elegant setting with outdoor reception and beautiful beach. I am leaning towards the Valentin right now but am waiting to hear back from the other resorts.
  13. I'm wondering if people are doing anything to differentiate their honeymoon time from wedding/celebration time... My Fiancé would like to just spend a week at the resort which is fine, but if guests make a vacation out of their wedding attendance, I don't know that I want to be hanging out all week with them! I want alone time with my new hubby! Some ideas that I had was maybe leaving to another resort a couple of days after the wedding to ensure some newlywed alone time or flying out elsewhere (which I don't think he wants to do). Am I being a little too picky? Thoughts? Found a thread already on this! This site covers everything
  14. July 2015! I'm not EXACTLY NYC but close enough to where I consider myself to be lol

    2015 Brides!

July 2015 bride here! At least I hope it will be July, haven't exactly booked a date yet but that's what I'm aiming for! What are the benefits of going through a TA? I never even considered this until reading this forum. I just contacted 3 resorts myself to check for availability for my wedding date and am now waiting to hear back.
  16. I'm Liane and am in the very beginning stages of my wedding planning. I am narrowed down to three resorts - Valentin Imperial Maya, The Royal Playa del Carmen, and Excellence... Anyone have any feedback that may be helpful?
  17. Hey! I'm also new to this site, I'm so glad I came across it in my desperate search for guidance! I recently got engaged while on vacation in Dominican Republic and am now trying to plan this wedding! We would love to do a destination wedding summer 2015, most likely July. I'm in search of a resort - we've been looking in Riviera Maya - Dreams Riviera, Excellence Riviera Cancun, The Royal Playa del Carmen, and a couple more. I will be looking into the topics to get feedback from those who have experience with a destination wedding in Mexico! Hope to find a little support/guidance here!:-)
