  1. I just got back from staying at Riu Yucatan and spoke with the wedding coordinator about their wedding packages. We had a great time we just know the Palace is out of our price range for our guests. It is a beautiful resort and the beach is gorgeous! It depends on what type of atmosphere you want for your guests. We spoke to younger girls who were staying there and said it was almost too quiet there so they would come over to our resort for a more lively crowd. If you want a more relaxing, calm atmosphere then Palace is the one to go to!

  2. My travel agent suggested Azul Sensatori for us. A top priority is the beach and the color of the ocean since it makes for gorgeous pictures. She sent me a ton of info, pictures and video of the resort I can forward you if you'd like. It was ruled out for us because it was not 100% handicap friendly and my fiances twin is in a wheelchair. I was also told to stay away for Dreams for weddings so didn't look into them. Good luck it's tough decision for sure!

  3. @@DZweds - I am inclined to agree with @@bicoastalimages on this one. It really sounds like you've done your research and have narrowed it down to what fits your needs & vision.  Anything more than that can make you further confused.  When we first started out, I had a list of 5-8 resorts which was then narrowed to 3.  There was a fourth but they were very limited date option wise so we ruled them out on that principle.  I'm glad I only had the 3 because it made it easier to choose.

I also suggeest making a spreadsheet or list of the things you are interested in seeing/knowing when you visit those resorts.  Be sure to take it with you as you tour the properties so you can take notes. This really helped us when we sat down to make our final decision.  There were things in the notes we'd forgotten about but were important in helping us make our decision.

My "last" suggestion is to take a planner/binder or something with pockets as well. We didn't do this and I wish we had.  While at one of the properties, we met a really great cigar maker who does weddings and he gave us his business card.  We can't find what we did with it and a couple of other brochures for things we want to now include.

Hope this helps and you have a great trip! :)

Do you happen to have that spreadsheet saved somewhere? We already had a vacay planned before we got engaged so we're taking a day to check out resorts. I would really appreciate it if you do since you already used it you know it works, what to look for, etc. Please let me know, thanks!

  4. Does anyone know resorts that are fully handicap accessible? Not just a ramp here and there but really being able to access the whole resort? My fiances twin is in a heavy motorized wheelchair so that is a huge part of the resort we pick. I am not sure if the laws regarding that are the same in Mexico as they are in the US. I know he is going to get sand tires so a ceremony on the beach should not be an issue. Thanks for any input and advice!

  5. Thank you for this thread! I just got engaged the beginning of this month and feel like I'm already behind the ball because we want June/July 2015 and I keep reading how people have everything booked! We are going July 12th on vacation in Playa and taking some time to check out resorts (we already had the vacation planned before the engagement). Don't worry I'll write uo reviews on where we check out for you guys! I've been second guessing if that's waiting too long to book something. Glad to see people in the early stages! Congrats everyone!

  6. We are currently looking for a resort in this area and a requirement for the reception is we want drinks and dancing not just a chill dinner on the beach or in a restaurant. Anyone have a reception like this and where? My brother did at Iberostar because they have a disco on the resort itself but we want to make our wedding our own and not reenact theirs. I have seen the Hard Rock Riviera has a night club on the resort but was not too impressed with the beach, or lack there of. Any help would be great thanks!

  7. Hey everyone! I just got engaged 5/3 after dating my now fiance after almost 4 1/2 years. We have decided on a DW summer 2015 in Playa del Carmen Mexico. We actually already had a vacation planned to the Riu Yucatan this July so we will be taking a day or so to check out resorts and pick a date. I could not be more excited to find this site and I look forward to planning with you all!

  8. My brother got married at Iberostar Tucan in Playa del Carmen years ago in July and it was a blast. The Queztal is attached to it as well and we actually went back last year and it was still great. My SIL says the wedding planner was amazing and super helpful. The ceremony was right on the beach, followed by dinner in one of the restaurants then had the disco (nightclub) for the reception so there was plenty of drinks and dancing after. The ceremony was late afternoon if I remember correctly so it was hot but they made the programs into fans which is a cool idea. It was $1100 for us to stay the week including nonstop flight from Cleveland. We've been back to Iberostars and never spent more than $1300. I am in the process of researching resorts as well and making it affordable for our guests. If they already didn't use that resort I would. The wedding was gorgeous, has huge pools and swim up bars.
