  1. I thought I'd read somewhere on this forum that DT doesn't allow it because of the risk of lighting the nearby forest on fire. I can't seem to find the post right now though.....
  2. Hi hezmshaw, If you click the 'search this forum' at the top of the page, you'll find all sorts of discussions on which package to choose. I just stumbled upon on in a Dreams Tulum review in her "if I had known then" section: "Wedding Package: I would have go with the Love in Paradise (cheapest) package - since we really didn’t use everything that was included in the Ultimate package (i.e. the flowers, the massages, etc.) and paid for the add-ons that were not available with any package (harpist, lobster, better wine, etc.)" Ultimately, my fiance and I decided to build our own package too. Don't fret if you've already picked a package and change your mind between now and then because it's my understanding that nothing really matters until you fill out the paperwork 2 months in advance of your wedding. Welcome to the forum!
  3. Hi, just checking to see if these are still for sale or if you've decided not to sell? Thanks!
  4. You're welcome! I liked that the girl said positive things about Nayeli too. Regarding tummy issues, I've also heard to avoid the salad bar or fruits like apples where you eat the skin because they wash it in the tap water.
  5. Hi ladies! I just found a new Review of DT on tripadvisor from 1/26/13 from lilyletigre. I don't know if she's a BDW member, but I hope she doesn't mind me sharing! I'm a little concerned about all the 'stomach issues' she said her guests had. Hope it's just a fluke thing.... My husband and I spent 9 days at Dreams Tulum in January during which time, we got married! We traveled in a group of 30 adults and children. Our vacation was awesome and I'm so incredibly happy that we chose to get married here. For ease of reading, I'll separate my review into sections. FLIGHT: We flew with Westjet. This was my first time flying with them and I can't say I was impressed. I found the flight attendants to be somewhat rude, the aircraft was small and there were no in-flight movies or meals. If you wanted to watch movies, you had to pay $10 to rent a tablet which battery didn't even last the length of the flight. We left our portable DVD player at home thinking that there would be something to watch and were disappointed at the lack of amenities on the flight. HOTEL CHECK IN: We arrived after a 2 hour bus ride from the airport at around 9PM. We weren't greeted with champagne like other reviewers but check in was smooth and fast. We were escorted to our room on a trolley and helped with our bags. ROOM: We had a Junior Suite Oceanview room on the third floor. It was beautiful, but could use an updated TV. Our view of the ocean was great, the bed was super comfy and the bathroom was spacious and well laid-out. We had a bottle of wine in our room with a couple apples. Overall, we were very happy with our room. I will say, however, it can get pretty loud when people are in the hallways with their kids talking and walking loudly, but this didn't bother us too much. As for reviews regarding loudness of the pool/entertainment at night, we did not notice this problem at all - unless you go to bed at 9PM. BEACH: I absolutely LOVED the beach! It's not much for swimming but it's completely private and incredibly beautiful. You can walk down either side for what seems like forever without coming across another resort. There is a large area roped off that is safe for swimming, but the rest of the beach is pretty rocky. It was really quiet when we went so there was only about 2 people in the water at any given time. There were always plenty of seats available, and if you woke up early enough (around 7am), you could score a palapa. POOL: The pool was great; super clean and beautiful. These are the seats that are reserved very early in the morning. The pool is mainly inhabited by families with small children. We didn't spend too much time at the pool but when we were playing with the kids in our group, this is where we were. ENTERTAINMENT: We didn't catch a lot of shows, but the ones we did were great! The American Idol show was funny and the shows always interacted with the audience. The entertainment staff on the beach and at the pool were great! However, I don't think it's appropriate for some of the female entertainment staff to flash their bums and take off their tops around kids, as well as grind up on the male entertainment staff. I realize they're just being cheeky, but perhaps they could save this type of behavior for the area around the adult pool. SERVICE: Service was pretty good - I wouldn't say outstanding. Sometimes we had to wait quite a while to get our drinks at restaurants; sometimes we wouldn't get offered coffee at breakfast. Some of the staff seemed a little miserable at times but nothing that would keep us from revisiting. MAID SERVICE: Our room was made up very late in the day (around 4pm) which is when we are usually inside having a siesta and/or getting ready for dinner. Because of this, our room wasn't made up for several days. Sometimes it would be made up earlier and then they'd come again at 4 or 5 when we were napping and disturb us. It wasn't until almost the end of the trip that we noticed the "Do not disturb" light switch. Even with this switch on, we were still disturbed several times. While I can appreciate the extra turn down service, it was unnecessary for us and we just found it to be a nuisance. FOOD: This was the most disappointing aspect of the trip. The food was not so great - probably the worst I've had at any all inclusive. The fresh fruit was great but hit or miss; one day it looked like they were serving canned pineapple. There were not a lot of "american" food choices like french fries, chicken strips etc. which is what I enjoy when on vacation. There was a lot of wannabe gourmet food at the buffet which I didn't even want to try. Something about eating curry on hot day before heading back to the beach just doesn't appeal to me. I really enjoyed the Barefoot Grill which is made-to-order burgers, hot dogs, pizza and sandwiches on the beach. Very yummy! The Seaside Grill was excellent as was the Asian restaurant. I didn't enjoy the food at the Italian place and the service was soooooo slow! We didn't even stay for dessert because it took us almost 3 hours to get through dinner. The Mexican place was pretty good and service was good. We didn't eat at the French place but heard it was excellent from our other guests. Almost all of our guests had mild to severe stomach issues while on vacation. This is not a slight against the resort; some people just experience digestive issues when eating different foods. My husband and I took Dukoral before we left and didn't experience any problems. DRINKS: Drinks were great! Very delicious, fancy and presented nicely. My favorite was La Pirata. WEDDING: Being a bride planning a wedding from a different country can be challenging. It's difficult to give up almost all the control to someone you've only corresponded with over email. I have to say, our wedding planner, Natalia - was AMAZING!! I wasn't sure how the day would play out and I was so incredibly nervous because I'm a perfectionist but the day was perfect. I met with her for an hour where we discussed the details and she executed everything I wanted and asked for perfectly. She didn't try to upsell me on anything and was very supportive with where I wanted to cut costs. I could not have had a better day and she is to thank! They are so good at what they do and I'm so happy that we chose this resort to have our wedding! The included photography is very nice. We only had 36 photos included in our package and each additional photo you want is an extra $20. We brought our own photographer as photography is very important to us and I would highly recommend doing this. The resort photographer is pretty good, but not even close to the same quality that we would get in Canada or the US. Overall, this was a fantastic vacation with family and friends. The resort is great for groups with all different types of people. Everyone had a fantastic time and it was a week to remember! Please do not hesitate to send me a message with any questions Stayed January 2013, traveled with family
  6. Thanks for the info Lyman! I've been wondering about that. The website for Walmart in Mexico is worthless when it comes to floral... M&JPhoto, I took your advice and looked into Maya Floral a little bit more. They have a bunch of reviews on BDW and some of the girls list their prices. They actually look really reasonable. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/products/maya-floral/reviews/
  7. I heard back from Nayeli. Aurora must be gone. Nayeli answered pretty quickly. As far as planning, it's my understanding that about 2 months out you will receive a giant packet to fill out and return. That's when all the big decision making happens. The only things I know for sure at this point are that we have the chapel reserved and the 5pm time slot for the ceremony. Through another forum here on BDW, I found Alejandro Monroy to perform the ceremony from cancunminister.com. What we loved about him is that you get BOTH a legal and symbolic ceremony in one. The judge is there with the paperwork, etc, but Sr. Monroy runs the show and does a religious ceremony. Obviously it's not cheap because you end up paying for the bloodwork + judge through the hotel and then his fee + the resort fee for an off-resort individual, but we're really happy to have everything done in one swoop. Regarding the cake, I figure we won't have much control over what it looks like so we've decided to go with an awesome customized topper from Etsy.com (the store is called clayphory). I did, however, tell my MOH that the only request I'm making for my bridal shower is a nice cake!
  8. Congrats to all the new additions to this forum! Rootkl, my travel agent said that scheduled air isn't released until 330 days prior to the date, whereas Chartered flights are out 1 year ahead of time. I think that's why you aren't able to book yet. Just wondering if anyone has been in touch with the wedding coordinator at DT? Is it still Aurora Garcias? I need to email and ask about hiring an outside minister, but it's been 6 months since I last emailed! I'm hoping she's still there.....
  9. Thanks for all the positive feedback! I'm in love with my dress. It was leary about purchasing off the rack, but my dad is the one that had the vision. He surprised me by being a huge part of the dress picking process. If anyone needs the name of a good, affordable seamstress in northern Illinois, PM and I'll give you her information. Now to just keep the weight off.... @LTLFaithy--you look amazing! I love the ruching and the sweetheart neckline Very flattering!
  10. This is my off-the-rack diamond in the rough! I got it at "Brandi's Bridal" in Rockford, IL & I highly recommend them. It's from the Provonias 2010 collection. It's name is "Leyenda", which in spanish roughly translates to "fairy tales". Awh. Can't wait for my future husband to see me in it!! I had the sweetheart neckline added. The ribbon is from my mother's wedding dress. Matches perfectly! It's my "something old". I had the deep V back added too. The train so so much bigger than I anticipated getting, but I couldn't pass up the delicate lace and all the beading. We're getting married in a little chapel, but it's going to sparkle in the sun for the pictures after! The "before" picture when it was 3 sizes too big. Don't be afraid of some alterations ladies!
  11. I just got the Super Boost backless/strapless from Nordstrom in the mail. I like it! Decent quality, boost, and lift. You will definitely need help getting into it and aligning it properly--but that's why we have bridesmaids . Sides are going to be sticky for the big day but I'll have alcohol wipes and baby oil to take care of it afterwards. I think I paid around $42 for it plus shipping.
  12. My cousin got married at Barcelo. It's a large complex of 5 hotels. They have a little waterpark just for kids and a kids club. I know that the Iberostar complex has a waterpark and a lazy river, depending on the age of the kids. Most resorts have kids clubs of some sort. Good luck!
  13. Glad to hear it was open two nights. I know it was probably lame and the beach party was much more fun, but my wedding is in July and I'm worried the heat will drive us inside. I'd hate for the party to be over when the reception is!
  14. Past brides, you are the BEST! I'm starting to have anxiety since I've never been to this resort, so I'm loving all these details! Quick question, I read somewhere that the resort discoteca was closed. Is this true? My travel agent emailed the concierge and he said it was temporary but I think there was a little bit lost in translation.....
  15. These are just amazing! What do the bottom's look like? Tied with ribbon?
  16. I emailed Wedit and am seriously considering them for our wedding! I hope someone responds one of these days. Did you see they have a Knot 'best of 2012' award? That's gotta be a good sign, right?? I asked: "Just curious, I see you have a Bahamas video listed. We will be getting married in Tulum, Mexico on July 26, 2013. #1: Are we allowed to take the cameras abroad? #2: We will be there Sunday-Sunday. Would it be possible to get the cameras earlier?" They responded rather quickly: "Thanks for reaching out! Yes, you can absolutely take them abroad, we just need a US shipping address to send the cameras to and you need to send them back from within the US. We will send them to you early, but we typically charge an extra $125 if you keep them for two weekends. I hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions, I am happy to help!"
  17. I'd like to put in a request for another Dreams Tulum Webinar sometime soon!
  18. I saw a post on another thread the other day that the discoteca at the resort is being closed permanently. Does anyone know anything about this?
  19. Welcome and congrats on your upcoming wedding! I hadn't heard that they are closing the club permanently! That's a shame. I was really counting on having the after-party there too. Are you sure it's not just closing for construction? I don't know of any nearby places to go out afterwards, but I'm sure there's something in the thread. Have you found "The New Dreams Tulum Thread"? There's over 5000 posts!
