  1. I am not sure what his name is but as far as I know he is the only one who does them. We did a symbolic as well and he spoke perfect english...just a little spanish accent was present.
  2. Thanks! Yup michaels had other colours, I can't remember exactly what but there were a few colours, pink, orange, purple, yellow or something. Just keep an eye out for them because they carry them sometimes in some colors and different colors different times. I think we had about 18 or so sign, they all fit. We needed tweezers to pull the ones out that people didnt wrap up small enough. We precut ribbons and tied one ribbon in a bow around the rest so they wouldn't blow off the table. I do have a template and will try to locate it for ya!
  3. Im not 100% sure but I don't think that any of the rooms are smoking but you can smoke on the patios for sure, and yes all rooms have patios! We were in the Oaxaca building, beach front and it was fantastic. There are two buildings and they are side by side, you can see them on the map. My biggest request would be closest to the ocean (or ocean front) if you can, saves a lot of walking!!
  4. Also, in regards to paying to have your dress cleaned, I did a TTD in a cenote (so it had no sand in it) and I had the resort dry clean it, I figured for $130 pesos (about $10-$11 US) if I did it in Mexico once or twice it would cost a fraction of what it would cost at home. They did an AMAZING job and my dress was 100% like new after one dry cleaning job at the resort!

  6. We brought one large glass decorative bottle we got from michaels that matched our colours. All the messages were tied and placed in it. Here's a pic of it:
  7. Your best bet may be to check the Barcelo site, under the weddings section the different packages are posted, it's a great place to start if you're just wanting to review packages and prices to begin.
  8. I had my alterations done at Carmen's Stitches, she did a wonderful job and they were super reasonably priced ($250 for the front of the dress to be hemmed, it to be taken in on both sides from armpit to thigh and belt sewn on). She works out of her home. Another bride on here in Calgary had her bridesmaid dresses done by her as well. If you are interested I can give you her number.
  9. These were my flowers from the resort, white lilies with little purple flowers as accents. I asked for that, plain and simple request, and I thought they did great! My girls' flowers were just smaller versions of mine. Gilmana - your Sneak peak pics look wonderful!! I love DIY!!
  10. I can't remember if I posted my shoes or not...I had no idea what I was going to get that matched my purple and teal colours but i wanted a wedge and it had to be less than 3inches... and then I spotted these beauties in a display window and they were 100% what I wanted and needed and the colours were amazingly perfect!! And SO comfy!!
  11. Stresscase..it appears I can't put more than one pic at a time through my phone so here is our centrepieces
  12. i did a lot of DIY stuff so brought down two carry ons of decoration stuff. We brought down our own centrepieces, they were 3 glass vases per table with purple cellophane in them and water poured into them with a organza flower and purple led light on top. We also brought down turquoise glass beads to scatter on the table as well as personalized napkins and menu cards. The centrepieces they had were just too pricey for us, I didn't want to pay upwards to $20 per vase on each table. Although a previous bride/groom on here said they can rent them to you for $5 a vase too! Their flowers are always wonderful at the resort, as far as I've seen! We also took down champagne flutes we painted with our colours, pictures in frames for our guest book table, the guest book message In a bottle stuff and our favors. We felt all the things we brought added lots of colour and decoration to the tables. Here are some pics of our stuff [/img][/img][/img]
  13. Yes palmeras grill is just down the beach walkway a little ways, it isn't the very closest restaurant to the gazebo but it would take just a minute or two to walk from one to the other. On your first day at the resort you will figure it all out! Or if you are a visual person check out the map http://www.resortsmaps.com/maps/map-BarceloMayaComplex-RivMaya.jpg palmeras is #34 and the gazebo is the white dot in front of #39. The map makes it look further than it is though.
  14. I searched all over BDW about tipping and found lots of great advice! There are a few brides/grooms on this Barcelo forum who have provided what they tipped. Our group was small-ish and I wasn't a high maintenance bride (I would say), we had about 22 guests and we tipped the wedding coordinator $75, photographer we paid his rate directly as he was already a private one we hired so since he makes his rates and works for himself we didn't tip further (that was advice given on here...if they work for a company tip them, if they work for themselves you are paying them directly). Officiant made $300 cash so we didn't tip further, the way we saw it was he got that as cash and we could have not paid that at all had we had our own person to officiate it. Servers/Bartender staff we paid $25 each. And I can't think of anyone else we tipped other than that.
  15. This resort is friendly for all ages with lots of things for kids to do, kids club and kids show at night with several very large kiddie play areas as well. Not sure where you are coming from or for how long you would stay or what you want the price to include so if you provide more details it would be easier to say if this resort falls in your price range. We had our wedding Nov 28 2012 and were coming from Canada and our prices all inclusive for one week at the Colonial from Calgary was $1483, from Toronto $1385, and for the Palace from Calgary it was $1719 and from Toronto was something in the $1600's. Then you also must add in the wedding package price, which there are some options to choose from.
  16. Welcome back Gilmana, congrats!!! I can't wait to see your review and pictures!!
