  1. Thanks KCDawn and Vasquea7! I'm happy to hear other people out there are having positive experiences with Valeria as well. I'm also a bit nervous about using the on-site salon for my hair and makeup and am not super willing to hire an external vendor as cost is going to be a bit tight. Does anyone know of a place to see some photos of hair/makeup they have done at the salon?
  2. Love this thread! Here's my dress when I first bought it alongside the model in it .
  3. Hi all you fellow Secrets Maroma Brides. I'm so grateful for everyone's input. The uncertainty of planning a destination wedding can be a bit scary. I'm just now starting to think about my wedding (End of August 2012) and have booked everything already. From what I've heard everyone seems to be working with Cecilia... The one who I have been in contact with however has been Valeria... Is anyone else working with her?
  4. Thanks amjohnson! It's so great to hear what people are planning for their smaller groups. I think that's a fantastic idea and will probably go with having our own personal music during dinner and a few songs afterwards and then let everyone go crazy wherever they'd like. I'll probably end up in the disco where I can freely twirl in my dress Quote: Originally Posted by amjohnson Kristina, I forgot to mention that we're bringing our laptop and speakers so we can play music at dinner, (our reception is poolside) and we are allowed music. They charge you 750$ for the dance floor! Hope this helps.
  5. Thanks Kat! Are you thinking that one of the bars will let you play your playlist there? Last time I was on vacation the resort had a Beatles cover band for the entertainment, but it was during the slow season so the wedding group that was there had it all to themselves. Such a lucky break. I just want to do a few slow dances after the dinner and then I don't mind just going to the club/bar at the resort to have the dance party. Do you think just bringing an iPod and speakers would do it to facilitate something like that? What kinds of songs are people choosing for their first dances?
  6. Thanks for the input canadiangirl! I'm kinda with you on not wanting to miss out on any part of the wedding experience (I mean I only plan on doing it once). The family members that are coming can be a little uptight so I don't want anyone to feel forced to hang around after the dinner if we're playing music when they'd rather go back to their rooms. I feel torn because I want to do the first dance, etc., but know that my fiance as well as others won't really be into it. Is there a back-up plan if you put on music and people won't dance?
  7. Hey all new brides/brides to be. Seems like you guys have some great ideas and it's nice to get advice from other Canadians! I'm getting married in Mexico next summer and am now starting to think about details. We're having a smaller wedding as people are traveling from Australia to attend. There are only 13 people plus my fiance and I and was wondering if anyone else has had a similar sized wedding and could offer me some tips. We're planning on doing the cocktail hour and dinner reception, but it seems silly to get a dj for just 15 people. Any advice on balancing a small group, but still having it feel like a wedding would be appreciated!
  8. Thanks for the advice bpokatie! I'm surprised by how many people have 50+ guests attending. We're just having immediate family & a couple close friends. Are you planning on doing out of town bags? I'm finding it hard to edit down some of these wedding ideas to those that are appropriate for a smaller wedding.

  10. Love both of these dresses! The layered skirts are gorgeous! It's true, they do look better on the real brides! Quote: Originally Posted by starrysim I don't have the pro pics yet, but I couldn't wait to post in my favourite thread
  11. What a great thread! I bought my dress a couple months ago and since then have been feeling like maybe I didn't make the right choice. Brooding over pictures of the model in the dress vs. me in the dress with no makeup and awful hair is enough to freak anyone out. This thread has been helpful. Does anyone have photos of their dress before it was fitted vs. after? I would love to see what kind, if any, of a difference that can make.
  12. Is there a certain number of posts you have to submit before your posts actually show up? I made my first post yesterday and it still hasn't posted to the forum so I'm not sure if I did it correctly.
  13. Congratulations! I love your ring, it looks similar to mine! My guy picked the ring himself as well. I wouldn't have thought that I'd be too confident about my boyfriend choosing the ring himself, but they tend to do pretty well And what a nice engagement story! Happy planning
