  1. Has anyone brought shells down to use in their wedding before? I found a big package of shells at dollarama (only $2!) I want to incorporate them into my place cards but I can't find anywhere if there will be an issue bringing them across the border. Has anyone else brought shells into Mexico in there luggage?
  2. great question dfranklin! I am not sure what kind of lanterns you are talking about, but I was looking into maybe bringing down paper lanterns. Maybe I haven't looked through enough photos yet but I haven't seen anyone that has used paper lanterns at the reception....I found some battery operated ones I like but I wasn't sure if there would be any place at the reception to hang lanterns from.
  3. I have only looked through a few pages but lots of nice cakes so far! I have a question though, I noticed a few cakes with ribbon around each tier. This is what I really want, I am planning on buying ribbon to match my colours then bring it down with me. My only concern is how do you cut a cake that has ribbon around it...I assume you "cut" the cake for pictures and everything then take all the ribbon off to cut for guests. I was wondering if this will be a huge pain, I think it will be worth it to have a gorgeous cake but was just curious about what others had found.
  4. That is nice. I much prefer the cakes with flowers, the standard cakes at GBP have been very plain to me. So you brought the cake stand down and there was no problem for hem to use it? I can't see why they would have trouble using extra things I bring down. Also I forgot to ask, the ribbon around your bouquet, I thought you had said before you had brought it from home....did you give it to the wedding coordinator to put on your bouquet or did you just wrap it yourself once your flowers arrived?
  5. There are so many gorgeous bouquet pictures on here, I only looked through a few pages but I need to find time to look at them all! My mom brought up something that has me a bit worried. I like the bouquets with the cut stems and then ribbon around, but my mom wondered if with all the humidity in Mexico if there was a chance of the green stems "leaking" onto my dress. The one bride i talked to said it was fine, just have paper towel to wipe them off when you take them out of the water. Also I am assuming that this bouquet style wouldn't be so popular if there was an issue like that...but I wanted to ask anyways what other brides had found! Thanks
  6. Thanks! It is gorgeous. I am really leaning towards lilies and roses for my bouquet, and that is the shape I was kind of imagining but had trouble finding photos on-line. I am also hoping to have some lilies and roses put onto the cake along with some ribbon to wrap the bottom of each tier to give it a bit of colour. I haven't got around to asking Jazmin yet but I have seen other cakes on here with ribbon so hopefully it isn't an issue. I just need to pick my flowers..then decided if I want to buy fake ones here to bring or get real ones there? I don't really know what people usually put for flowers on cakes... but if i buy real ones there they will for sure match the bouquet flowers.
  7. Tlseege: Thanks for making the other thread. I had a question though, I think the pictures of the wedding with teal fabric at the gazebo and pink flowers is your wedding? I was wondering if you had any pictures more close up of your bouquet, it looks very similar to what i want (lilies and roses?). I just am hoping for more white roses in mine with more pink in the maid of honor bouquet. I saw the pictures from Amore studios website, just wondering if you had anymore so I could get a better look, Thanks.
  8. I am sure this has been asked on this thread before but I can't find it...I am getting married at a gazebo so I want so wear a heel, nothing to crazy though since I want to wear it to the reception and not have sore feet. My problem is that my wedding photos will be taken on the beach where I can't wear heels...my initial thought was go barefoot but now I am worried about the length of my dress, I can't have it hemmed for my shoes then go barefoot for pictures. Now I am thinking maybe try to find some wedge sandals the same height to wear at the beach Any thoughts from previous brides?
  9. Yeah I am not too happy about the cake options...they seem very plain. -CDlillad: I noticed in your facebook pictures that you had a 3 tier cake. Was there an extra charge for that, or was it included because you didn't have a dessert at the restaurant? I will probably be having white for almost everything in my wedding so I was hoping to have some colour on my cake....maybe I will ask if i bring down my own ribbon they can wrap each tier with it or add coloured flowers. I have been kinda bummed since Jazmin sent me the cake options, but I guess I shouldn't complain when so far I love everything else I have picked for the wedding. I was reading in earlier posts that if you don't buy extra champagne for the toast after the ceremony they provide a fruit cocktail? Have any recent brides done this or was it just something the hotel used to do? Also this may seem a bit picky but I know the last two times I was at this hotel you have to wear wrist bands, I haven't noticed any wrist bands in any other wedding pictures, do you get to take your wrist band off for the wedding? Also can the wedding guests take theirs off too and was it a big hassle to get a new one after? It may be picky but I hate the idea of all my guests having those wrist bands on in all my pictures! Thanks!! (6 months to go!!)
  10. Has anyone received cake options from Jazmin? We want to go with a larger cake to feed all our guests but we won't be getting the dessert from the restaurant. I asked Jazmin for pictures of our options but she just sent me the same pictures as before of the round or heart shape one tier cake....What kind of cakes have previous brides had?
  11. Thanks for all the tips! I have a bunch more questions Jazmin just sent me the bouquet options and I really like the white flower bouquets, I personally don’t prefer the ones that are really long stems and you have to kind of cradle them. Are there any previous brides that chose their bouquet from the catalogue that could post pictures on here? I am finding it hard to pick, I wish the catalogue showed different angles of each bouquet. Also for any one that has had a bouquet that didn’t have a holder and just had the stems (long or short) did you find that the green in the stems leaked or got on your dress? I can’t decide if I should get my make-up trial done at home and get some pointers on how to do it myself, or get a trial and have it done at the resort. For anyone who had their make-up done at the resort, did it last all day? As for the wedding cake, did anyone get the larger cake plus a dessert? I am worried that if we buy a bigger cake plus a dessert no one will eat the cake; I am really leaning towards just getting a bigger cake and no dessert form the menu. What did previous brides think of their cakes? As for mosquitoes, I have been to this resort twice, last time was in Feb 2010 (when we got engaged) and I never saw a single mosquito on the resort or on our excursions (though there were a lot of black fly type things when we went to a cenote). I still plan on bringing a small bottle of bug spray just in case but I don’t know if it would be worth putting in oot bags?
  12. Yay finally booked, March 1 2012 at tulum. I really want to do the ceremony at the gazebo, it is so gorgeous! I have a few questions though. Has anyone paid extra for arrecife to come the dinner and reception? Also I am thinking about choosing gran tortuga (Brazilian). For those of you who have gone to gran tortuga how was it? The menu says something about cards so you say green for more meat and red for no?? Also the menu didn't mention anything about side dishes, is it just meat and a salad buffet? I am so glad that Jazmin has been replying to my emails so quickly. My invitations won't be here for another two weeks so I am getting really nervous, luckily emailing Jazmin gives me other wedding things to think about. Thanks for any help!
  13. This is a great forum, I have read a lot of great tips on here so far. I am really trying to book my wedding at this resort for Feb/March 2012 but things aren't going as planned. I was hoping to go for about 10 days but the flights aren't very good for 10 day trips, it seems in order to get good flights you need to book the 7 day trips. I was wondering how long previous brides had gone down for their wedding? I am just worried that 7 days won't be long enough to enjoy the wedding and a honeymoon plus the time with guests. My fiancee was worried that 10 days is too much, since all our previous trips have only been 7 days, but I just think we have so much more to do when this trip is for our wedding.
