  1. How big are the bridesmaid's bouquet usually? Jazmin told me it would be $36 for a bouquet for my MOH, she also told me it is going to cost me $40 for 8 roses to put onto my cake...So based on this I am assuming the MOH bouquet will be very small? I sent her a picture of a bouquet I like, she told me it would be $75 but she also sent me a picture of a similar bouquet from the catalog (but it wasn't actually in the catalog she sent me) that I could get instead for no extra charge. In the big picture $75 is really not that much but it just seems like every time I get an email this wedding is going to cost more money, it is getting frustrating...especially when the two bouquets are very similar except the one I want is a lighter pink with less roses, but the roses are larger than the catalog one..doesn't make sense that one is free but the other is an extra $75.
  2. Thanks! I think I will try and get appointments for mani/pedi for the wedding day then, and my hair once I decide if I want them or just do it myself. It sounds like a fun way to spend the time before the wedding, I think if I don't have something to do I will drive myself crazy worrying about details that won't matter in the end! I hope to see some pics soon!
  3. Congrats lyzzie and megz, looking forward to seeing reviews and photos! Has anyone done a trash the dress with Arrecife? I really want to do one, but every time I try my dress on again I get scared it might get messed up. Also I am still deciding on the spa. Would you recommend getting a trial done before the wedding day, or just showing up and going with it. I am going to my hair dresser soon and going to ask her for some tips on products so I can do it myself but still undecided on that, I might be more relaxed if someone does it for me. Also I want a mani pedi for the wedding, the wedding is at 2, do you think I will be pushing it to have a mani/pedi on the wedding day, or will i have enough time?
  4. Hello I am also having the symbolic ceremony and I haven't been told anything about only having 24 guests. My WC told me I could have up to 45 people at the gazebo then I just have to pay an extra $8pp over 35 for my 2 hour pool side reception (we are going for the margarita, pina coloda, beer and sparkling wine bar). We are also going for dinner at gran tortuga, which will count as one of our guests al la carte My ceremony is at 2, then dinner at 6, reception at 8. If your ceremony is at 4 you won't have a big gap between the events. By the time you take pictures you might have time to freshen up then go for dinner.
  5. It is really hard to look past the pictures in the catolouge and really see the pictures, since everything is so old looking. I was looking through the arrecife facebook pages and found a bouquet I loved, then when I looked through the catolouge again I realized the same bouquet was in there. Seeing the same bouquet in a more modern picture really makes a difference, I really think they should update the catolouge! Choosing my bouquet has been the most difficult part of all this planning, I was 100% set on lilies for mine with smaller flowers, then roses replacing the lilies for me MOH. Sadly I am questioning myself again I don't know why I can't make up my mind on this.
  6. Oh no! that's bad news! Hopefully you can find a new one. Don't stress too much though, atleast though you know Arrecife can still cover your wedding so you will have photos either way. Quote: Originally Posted by AD2012 Entering mini crisis mode! Our photographer cancelled on us this morning!
  7. Hi Marina Our wedding in March will be my 3rd time at the gran Bahia, I have stayed at tulum and akumal and we chose tulum for our wedding. On our last trip in 2010 we stayed at akumal but we went around to the different buffet restaurants and I found tulum has a much nicer & bigger buffet restaurant than the coba and akumal. I personally prefer tulum because of the slightly bigger buffet (though I can't remember specifics about how much bigger, I just remember they always seemed to have more dessert selections!) I also find the beach at tulum is a bit nicer, I found akumal is a bit more rocky. Coba isn't listed as beach front property, it is located kind of behind the akumal section, it is a fair walk to the beach but nothing unreasonable. Coba is newer so the rooms may be nicer, but in saying that I have never heard complaints about the rooms in tulum. Personally I would go with Akumal or Tulum because they are closer to the beach, and I feel tulum has a nicer buffet and beach than akumal. In the big picture though you can't go wrong with either of the three, the nice thing is you have access to everything so if you go to tulum and decide you like the akumal pool better or the coba bar, you just go there! Also from what I have read on sites like this I haven't heard much about differences in the actual rooms between the three resorts. I wouldn't stress too much over which of the three to pick, you get to roam between the three. Also something that might help you decide is looking at the wedding locations for each resort, I had already decided on tulum before I looked at the wedding locations, luckily I love the tulum gazebo so that worked out for me. If you stay at tulum I be live you can only get married at a tulum site, but if you stay at coba I be live you have the option of either akumal or tulum.
  8. Fally: I hope you feel better soon. I plan on using the resort photographer and I have no worries about the quality...the pictures on their facebook pages are beautiful. I just am still working over prices..and if I can afford them to go to the reception and dinner. I have seen a few brides on here have had welcome breakfasts? How does this work? I can't believe our wedding is just under 4 moths away, and it seems like so much is already taken care of. I go for my dress fitting next week! Now I just need to pick out the details I think, and I need to stop looking at pages of bouquet pictures everyday and just pick one!
  9. Yeah I found it really strange to require you book travel before you get a wedding date. Once we picked a date we emailed the hotel and asked if they had anything available for that day...then as soon as they said it was available we booked our travel. Which was really annoying because once I got confirmation of an available date I found out my travel agent was out of town for the next two weeks, since I had already pushed my wedding back 3 weeks because of delays like this we booked our trip ourselves on the Internet. It would be nice if you could reserve a wedding date then they give you maybe a month to book travel. It does seems like a pain, also it would be much easier if you have a travel agent that is actually on the ball and gets things done quickly.
  10. Megz: Can you please let me know what they say about the pulmeria!? And if they can get them if there was an extra cost for that. I want to have a bouquet of white lilies but I have been looking for a small pink flower to add a bit of colour, and the pulmeria are soo pretty. If they say yes I might look into adding those to my bouquet. Are you looking at a bouquet of only pulmeira? That would be gorgeous, and look very tropical.
  11. meBonidie2be: the florist shouldn't have trouble getting gems into your bouquet like the picture....they probably aren't glued on though. They are probably similar to your starfish and you stick them into the rose. I have seen people just use pins that have a fancy top on them or my friend's florist recently used fancy hair pins to get the same look (you never would guess it was a hair pin they looked great!) I would talk to your florist, she might even have supplies like that already.
  12. lol sorry my quote and link didn't work, here is her link to pics, you can see her orange flowers there http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.2030875205928.2114889.1065548484&l=2ec9e0fa4d
  13. I know a previous bride, cdlillard, had orange flowers and she has a link to her wedding pics
  14. I am thinking of a bouquet with white lilies, pink roses and maybe some baby's breath..has anyone come across pictures of something like this?
  15. After reading through this thread I have noticed a few girls have said that there hair looked good but the salon burnt it pretty good so they had to get it cut after the wedding. I have long hair and I am really nervous that they might burn it bad. I am still on the fence on getting my hair done there but I am planning on practicing with my hair before I leave so that if I get down there and decide against the salon I can do my hair myself (I am not doing an up-do or anything so it shouldn't be hard anyways). Also I have noticed a lot of girls questioning make-up so I thought i would give an alternate idea. I am going to have a make-up artist come and give me lessons on bridal make-up so I can do it myself that day. I was quoted $100 for the lesson but I don't think that is too bad considering you will get a better idea on how to do your make-up for any special events!
  16. Oops. For anyone else interested I also should have mentioned I asked Jazmin about hanging paper lanterns at the reception. She said she can hang them from palapas close to the area but if I want them hung over the area i need to bring all supplies including string..I am assuming the only supplies i need are the lanterns and the string but I just have to figure out how much string.
  17. So Jazmin emailed me today, I had sent her a picture of a cake and asked if it was possible o have a 3 tier cake and decorate with flowers..she said yes is possible and the cost is 85usd just please let me know which flavour from the options I sent already, Note, there is an extra charge because a cake of 3 layers is not an option included in the wedding package but If they go with the heart shape or one layer conventional will not be extra charge and can still be for all the I thought that if you didn't get dessert at the restaurant you could upgrade your cake for no extra charge? i also assumed that the 3-tier would be the upgrade, did I misunderstand and the upgrade is actually just a bigger single layer cake? I am definitely going to ask Jazmin but I thought I would run it by here first.
  18. I have a question about what everyone is doing for guest books. We are having dinner at Gran Tortuga then a pool side reception...I want to set up some kind of table with our guest book and maybe a "cake topper" as a decoration on the table (my fiancee wants a funny cake topper and I don't so i told him he could get one to put with our guest book, compromise!). I was just wondering what other brides are doing for guest books, I am thinking it might be easier to set up a table at the reception?
  19. I don't know any places on line but have you tried a dollar store or craft store like Michael's? I decorate a lot with shells in my house so i have found lots at Michael's, plus I just bought a big thing of shells for my favors at the dollar store (over 50 medium sized shells for $2)
  20. Do you have to bring your own string to hang up the lanterns or does the resort provide that? Also I have never heard of floating lanterns before, where are you getting them?
  21. I am also hoping to use paper lanterns for my centerpiece. I want to use the round lanterns, then put some silk flowers into the top opening. I think the paper lanterns will pack really easily and not add a lot of weigh to my luggage. Something along this line, but not so tippy.
  22. Gorgeous pictures! They turn out so great and looks like such a fun time, I can't imagine going to such a beautiful place and not taking full advantage of the ocean and getting those amazing pictures!
  23. I plan on doing a TTD. The pictures I have seen always look so amazing. I have talked to a few girls who have done it (one had a really big fancy ball gown) and they all said there dress was fine after wards, just rinse it in the shower to get the salt water out and it was good as new. I am confident my dress will be fine after a TTD. But even if it isn't what are you saving it for? My parents bought my dress and they are fine with the TTD, my Mom has saved her wedding dress for 30 years now, it isn't even usable after so long in storage. Of the brides I talked to everyone says the actual wedding and reception is way harder on the dress then the TTD (dress gets all dirty from walking, flower girl steps on and rips dress before wedding even starts..etc) I am so excited for TTD, it looks like so much fun (and romantic) and you will get beautiful pictures in the end!
  24. My WC (Jazmin) just recently emailed me about the tables at Gran Tortuga, she told me: "A good idea will be place card for your guests in the restaurant so If you like the idea please bring them, about the tables just keep in mind we can have square tables since 7 until 10 people max per table and If you have in mind a head table with just 1 face, It is possible but aprox 4 people ( and just 1 kind of this table is able)" Hope this helps!
  25. oops, i also wanted to ask about bringing mints down for my favors, From what I have read it is OK to bring packaged food in your luggage but just thought i would ask what others have experienced!
