  1. I'm so excited! I can't wait until I have people booked and can give updates on the numbers!
  2. I've been engaged since April 2010 anf tried on dresses for the FIRST time with my future MIL this past Saturday (2/12/11). Now I'm hooked! Going to another shop on Monday and doing the Running of the Brides in April. :-)
  3. I really like this dress. It would look great on 5 out of 6 of my BMs.
  4. I'm loving this David's Bridal strapless in "Cognac," the beautiful color my wonderful Fiance chose. :-) I found their dress days after I asked them to be BM's. FI has his tux! Too bad I'm just starting to dress shop now!
  5. I'm planning on a simple casual dress. I feel in love with a convertible dress and think it will work perfectly. That way I can have a long gown during the ceremony and short during the reception. I will have my veil on all evening at the suggestion of my MIL who said she wants everyone to be able to identify the bride! :-)
  6. I fell in LOVE with this dress this weekend. Long for the ceremony, short for the reception. :-D
  7. So I tried on dresses for the FIRST TIME EVER this Saturday! My future MIL was in town so she and 2 of my bridesmaids came with me to a random store I goggled 30 minutes before we set out. There just happened to be a trunk show going on and the designer said she loved me in the dress! I'm still doing running of the brides in April and hope I can find one for less than the listed $2800. I found a similar dress at David's Bridal and am checking it out this weekend! Adele Couture Gown on the model (I look better in it but I'm holding out on sharing the pic of me in the dress)
  8. I know how you feel! I think I found the one on my first day this past Saturday!
  9. I love these two dresses below! The bottom one looks like it may have pockets which really goes with my laid back beach wedding. I will have to add this to the growing list of things to try on.
  10. I agree, the FI thought we would be spending less but he had little basis for comparison. We are also thinking of chartering a catamaran which I explained was $1600 of our budget in addition to a separate outing for our bridal party. I hadn't thought of the fact that our honeymoon costs are being bundled in with wedding costs. That's one way to help us rationalize what seems like a large bottom line. :-)
  11. Yay! I'm getting married next May 25th in Montego Bay. This May I'll be in JA for my fiance's best friend's wedding at the Iberostar but I'll miss you by a week!
  12. Hello Beautiful Brides! I've seen a few posts here and there so I thought I'd start a new thread for the natural haired women in my midst, especially those with locs or braids. Any ideas or suggestions? I've been growing my locs for about 4 years and maintain them myself. For the special day, I want a great updo but have not decided on a style yet. What have you ladies done/do you have planned?
  13. He is 10 years, 4 months and 12 days older than me. I've always been mature for my age and he has a baby face so it all works out.
  14. My mother is from Jamaican and my dad is from Cleveland by way of St. Louis. I was born and raised in Cleveland. My fiance is Guyanese and we both have lots of West Indian relatives. I'm so happy to be marrying at the Riu Montego Bay so my 91 year old great-grandfather can make the trip from Westmoreland (Jamaica). It will also feel good to be in my mom's hometown since she passed away and won't be able to see me on my special day. She'll be there in spirit, I'm sure.
  15. Thanks Kya101! Have you received any of your orders yet? Are the sizes true to fit?
  16. I love this dress. I have been thinking its the one for about 5 months now and think I should just order it. :-) As far as good buys go, this dress is $800+ on the Maggie Sottero website but I saw it for less than $150 on www.milanoo.com. Natalie7, you may want to check them out as well!
  17. I LOVE the Maggie Sottero dresses. I never considered a tea length but the more I look at this thread, the more I consider it. I do have great legs... Why are you ladies doing the non-traditional/shorter dresses? What made you decide?
  18. Good point! I'm getting marring in Jamaica in May and hadn't even considered the dress needs to hide sweat. Thank you for mentioning that.
  19. May 25, 2012! I work out for like 3 weeks at a time and completely fall off the bandwagon. I just need a plan I can stick with and hopefully someone to help me stay motivated. My FI is such a workout-aholic that I don't like to exercise with him! I'm hoping my 2 local bridesmaids who work out will allow me to tag along until i get into a routine.
  20. I'm engaged in DC! Actually we got engaged last year just as the cherry blossoms were blooming. At first, we were going to get hitched here but decided to do it in JAMAICA!
  21. Yes! I am from Cleveland, living in DC with the Fiance. I will always be a Midwestern Girl at heart. :-)
  22. Grrr. My travel agent told me there was a one week sale going on and I was so excited until she called back and said she was looking at the rates for the wrong year. :-) Oh well, it was nice to think I'd have $800 more in the bank.
  23. Hi Ladies, I thought the DW would be much cheaper than a wedding here in DC but after updating my budget today that doesn't seem to be the case. I know talking about wedding costs in real figures can be taboo for some, so can you just tell me if your grand total was below, at or way beyond your budget? Any tips or words of advice for cutting back? I'm not spending our entire savings - we have a business to run and kids to save for (after we have them ). Thanks!
  24. Very nice! They are similar to the ones I'm having printed. I wanted a similar S-T-D but I wanted it as a full-sized magnet. Showed the FI the DIY template and a few examples and he designed ours himself! We are sending it off to a magnet company who will make the STD into a full-size magnet. I'll share as soon as we get the proofs and final product. Have an architect as a FH comes in handy!
