  1. Amurka, Your dress is beautiful!! Mine is more traditional as well =) I have to find a good picture of the front of mine - I HATE the one on the designer website, it really looks nothing like what the actual dress looks like from the front! Here is a picture of it from the back - it looks just like this, but in the picture you cant see that there are little rhinestones all over (lining the top of the dress, and over the bodice of it - nothing crazy but its not as plain as it looks in this picture):
  2. CynMay, We're having our reception in the ballroom, and if we want to have it past 11pm, it is $5/per person per hour. I think she said this is an option for other venues as well.
  3. Soccer, Just an idea - I'm using my bridesmaids bouquets as the centerpieces once we get into the reception (I will arrange the vases beforehand) - this can save you a lot of money on the flowers!
  4. FranticBride, We're doing this for our wedding in the Dominican Republic @ Dreams La Romana - actually we're doing it for the welcome party as a fun activity for everyone - we're also having people write wishes on them. I asked my wedding coordinator at the resort to make sure it was okay - you should ask them, since each resort is different when it comes to these things.
  5. Hey ladies! Great info, I'm looking into Jochy & Indira for my hair/makeup for myself and my bridesmaids! Thank you!!
  6. Hi Ladies!! Love you all, this forum has made this process SO much easier & worry free =) Jessica & Anthony Dreams La Romana November 10, 2012 We're so excited!!!
  7. Vancouver Bride, Congrats on your destination wedding! My fiance and I are getting married at Dreams La Romana next November - 2012. We also visited - this past July - and we LOVED it, its absolutely gorgeous, and the staff is amazing. We took a direct flight to Santo Domingo - the drive is only about and hour and 25 minutes, its not 2 hours - and it really isnt a bad drive at all, seems much faster. JetBlue is starting direct flights from JFK airport in NYC to La Romana this November - so you will be able to fly direct from there. You can get direct flights into La Romana now, but they are a little more expensive and less frequent (I think its American Airlines). Also, La Romana is almost 1/2 the price of Punta Cana to stay at, so this is great for your guests. The reason its less money is because the resort is newer, and La Romana isn't as much of a tourist area as Punta Cana. Its gorgeous in La Romana - the resort is surrounded by jungle, and is on the Caribbean Sea (Punta Cana resort is on the Atlantic). Theres a huge reef right at the beach in La Romana to the one side, which is beautiful. The La Romana staff also deals with less weddings - about 350 a year, where Punta Cana does over 600. Our wedding coordinator at La Romana told us its much more personal at La Romana because of this. I havent been to Dreams Punta Cana, but I have also heard wonderful things about that resort - the staff at all of the Dreams resorts are unbelievable, so you can't go wrong at either one - Dreams La Romana was just our favorite and the best fit for us! Good luck with your planning & let us know what you decide!!
  8. Hi Ladies! Snakcake, it took Jenny & Yanna about 3 weeks to *officially* confirm our date after we sent the signed papers & deposit in, so no worries - they're just busy! When we went to visit in July, we saw Jenny running around all the time - theres only the 2 of them and they do about 350 weddings a year - crazy! Amurka & Chanelo, how many people do you have coming to the wedding? Congrats, thats so exciting that your weddings are so soon, I cant wait to see your pictures!! What do your dresses look like? I just bought mine - so exciting, it will be ready in March, I can't wait until I have it in my size! Have any of you ladies looked into outside vendors for flowers and/or cake? We have quite a few people coming and the resort charges $30 per pound for the cake - which seems really high to me?? Also I have 9 bridesmaids so I was going to try and see if I can find bouquets for less than $75, which is what the resorts prices start at. Any suggestions?
  9. Jess819, We are getting married at the garden gazebo, then cocktail hour there in the garden & then we're doing the reception in the ballroom - we're having quite a large group (397 invited! Expecting between 175 - 250) and we're bringing a band, so we figured we would go inside so we don't bother everyone with the volume lol!
  10. Jess, We went to Dreams in July - the Seaside Grill dance space is very small - theres no way you could comfortably have a reception there with that many people. When we were there, a wedding was going on in that space with about 30 people and there was enough room for tables, the cake, and some room to dance. P.S. - Our wedding is 11.10.12!!
  11. Sabrina, I didn't really notice, I 'm pretty sure they were just carpeted but I'm not positive - I didn't even think to pay attention to that. They are really nice though - much nicer than I thought they would be - the lobby is all marble & really pretty & the actual ballrooms have really high ceilings and are in great condition.
  12. I'm sure!! Its so exciting, I'm really excited for you & to see your dress!!! Quote: Originally Posted by anudrm I will indeed. I will probably cry like a big baby when I see it the first time!
  13. Thats so exciting, you'll have to post pics when you finally get to see it!!
  14. Funny, great...but is that normal lol?? I feel like a pound of cake really isn't that much at all, is it?
  15. Dominican Bride, My email is [email protected] We definitely should keep in contact, and grab a drink (or 2!) while we're at the resort to celebrate! I'm excited!!! CONGRATS thats so excited that you're eloping so soon!!!! My travel agent is amazing, email me and I'll email you her info. Shes a lifesaver. She actually probably can't give you airfare quotes yet (my TA said probably around December or January because thats about when airlines come out with flights for November 2012.) I would like to fly our guests right into La Romana, it depends on how much more expensive they are as to what everyone will want to do - some will probably fly into La Romana, and others into Punta cana or Santo Domingo. My FI and i just visited DLR in July (LOVED IT!!!!) and we flew into santo domingo because we were only going for 3 nights to see the resort so we didnt feel like paying extra for the flights this trip - the ride really wasnt bad at all (as long as you dont mind crazy drivers lol - theyre all a little nuts on the island!) - we had a private van & he stopped and got us beer along the way, and was really friendly and great. Our flights in Juy were just about $500/pp. We're definitely going to fly into La Romana next time, as long as JetBlue has direct flights into there on that day. Where are you from? I'm in NJ and I know JetBlue starts flying directly into La Romana from JFK this November, which is great. We're doing a 5pm ceremony in the garden gazebo, then cocktail hour in the garden area, and we're actually doing our reception in the ballroom (2 of the connecting ones have a wall in the middle that slides over and opens it up alot.) One of the ballrooms we have has a stage, and we're (hopefully!!) bringing a band down to play the reception so I thought it would be more fun inside so we can hear the band & dance & be crazy without being ridiculously loud for the rest of the resort! Everything else during the week will be outside so I figured an inside reception would be good for us lol. What about you??
  16. Hey ladies!! Just curious if anyone has used an outside bakery for their cakes & what prices they have gotten?? I'm getting married at Dreams La Romana, and they include a cake for 20 with our package (but we have 370 invited, and are expecting between 125 - 200) and after that the resort charges $30 per POUND of cake...which sounds crazy! (Although I've never shopped for a wedding cake so what do I know lol.)
  17. Anudrm, When is your date??? Do you have your dress??
  18. Dominican Bride, We have the same date - 11/10/12!!! Your save the dates sound adorable - we sent our a few weeks ago (magnets, I figured people would have less of a chance of losing them if they were on the fridge!) & have 27 people booked!! I love watching everyone book...my TA sends me an email everytime someone makes their reservation, and its like opening a present every time lol. Its so exciting having another bride for that day!
  19. Dominican Bride, I have the same wedding date - 11/10/12!! at Dreams La Romana, just got booked & confirmed with everything in June, thats so exciting!!! We're also having a bigger wedding - about 150 people!
  20. Just started dress shopping yesterday, so exciting!!
  21. So there were no damages to the resort? I heard La Romana was in a the "red zone!"
