Hey all! I got married in the DR last May and am now trying to help a girlfriend of mine out. This forum was the best thing that happened to my wedding planning so I thought you ladies might be able to help. She will be staying at the Jewel Dunn's River and was looking for an off-site venue for her wedding/reception. Any suggestions??? Thanks!!

MNtoMX, We did everything a la carte, even the drinks bc we only had 24 people. I think it worked out pretty good that way. I'm sure we would've gone with the drinks per hour per person if we had a lot more people. Megs

BrideMAR2012, I went with the Jellyfish DJ. I was worried about his song selection so before we traveled down I put together 2 playlists on my iPod. The first was for cocktail hour/dinner and the second was for dancing. After our ceremony, while we were taking pictures with our guests the DJ started playing some chill tropical/loungy music - I wanted more upbeat music so everyone could start partying so I handed him my iPod and told him which playlist to put on. From that point on he only played my music - I had him switch to the dance playlist after dinner. Even though he only played from my iPod I would still have made the decision to go with him because I didn't have to worry about the music and the sound setup and lights were awesome. We didn't have a first dance, garter toss, bridal party so we didn't need a DJ to make any announcements so this was the way to go for us. If you want an interactive DJ and want to pay a little more then I'm sure DJ Mannia would be the way to go. I wore a pair of gold bow pumps for pictures then put on barefoot sandals for our ceremony and reception on the beach

So the sock monkey thing started when I took a trip to Egypt 2 years ago. I had the trip planned before I met my husband so he didn't come with me. When I got to Cairo and opened my suitcase there was a note and this sock monkey in it. I was totally surprised and, of course, had to take this monkey with me in my day pack everywhere. Everyone loved him and when we were in a perfume shop all these woman were grabbing at him, asking to have their pictures taken with him and calling him Buji. Turns out that the little guy looks like a character, Buji from an Egyptian cartoon - Buji and Tom Tom. Hence the name Buji After returning home from my trip and telling the story we started taking Buji with us to big events and it turned into something bigger. Every time one of our friends goes on a trip - Buji goes too. He's been all over the world, Australia, Holland, London, China, Aruba...even the Big House and in the Red Sox dugout He also has his own facebook page 'Buji the sock monkey' The other monkey in the pictures is my brothers. He got him in Boston, when he was here last summer for the weekend that Adam and I got engaged

astef, Phil charged me $2600. That included everything: our TTD session which was about 3-4 hours, a full day of photography on the wedding day, and ALL of our digital images re-touched on DVDs (almost 2000 in all). Also, Phil was really great about helping me plan details and the time line for the wedding day, which was invaluable since you're planning a HUGE day in another country Sheri, I would love to meet up with you! I should also tell you that we had Jamie Dimitry photograph our wedding along with Phil. We received 3 DVDs with approx 2000 re-touched digital images from Phil Steingard and another DVD from Jamie with another 400 re-touched digital images.

Sheri - Adam and I didn't have a rehearsal since we didn't have a wedding party but we did go to the Jellyfish on the day that we arrived in Punta Cana to talk about final details and give her our cake topper. At that time she had the bartender make us drinks so we could choose which ones they would have ready for our guests when they arrived. If you want a rehearsal I'm sure that Mayte would be more than happy to have one for you. It was really helpful to go there beforehand and actually see everything -it gave me peace of mind before the wedding to know that everything was in good hands. Megan
