  2. Just happened to be looking through another forum (post #16 in Bride getting married Jan 15, 2011) and came across this post from a bride re: DJ experience at Azul: i just got marriedat the Azul Santatori on July 10, 2010, what a great fun hotel. The wedding turned out to be a great deal of fun and things were planned properly. I will say the one bad thing was and is the DJ he was HORRIBLE. we payed $1500 for the dj package that came with some bubbles, smoke stuff and glow in the dark things. Well the dj hmm where do i start, down loaded our songs first dance, mother & son, and father and bride, BUT never heard his download and admitted to this so needless to say our song got cut off in the middle (4mins into the song) and he replayed it from the start 3 times before we just sat down, same thing with moher and groom song and so on. He spoke so low that we had to repeat what he said and got things wrong like on the micrphone he said very low and now mother and bride dance instead of groom but didn't correct himself. We luckly had a friend bring his laptdop down from his room and he played the rest of the music for us but...yes the dj was HORRIBLE my ipod could had done a better job then the dj himself. we complained and got attitude from the ownercof the dj company. first by calling my husband a liar because h said he didnt speak spanish and the owner said you have a spanish name and everyone here is spanish so either you speak to me i spanish or don't speak to me at all. My husband is latin american but in reality does not speak the language and was very much offended by this man. he refused to speak to my husband and therefore had to get a friend of ours to speak to him. (keep in mind the owner spoke english)
  3. We are doing the family style buffet. I like that the main dishes are tray passed. We chose it because it has a little bit of everything and guests are not required to pick anything in advance. Plus if someone wants to have some lobster tail, shrimp skewers and steak for dinner - they can have it all! Having said that - we are not having a cocktail reception before the wedding. We are having the cocktail reception as a "welcome party" a couple days after we get to the resort. So our guests should be good and hungry for the reception on the wedding day! Also - we have travelled with groups of people in the past and find that we usually don't have dinner until 8pm anyway - which fits nicely with how our reception is set up. Good luck!
  4. I am going with the ipod. My sister is coordinating the music list for us. I spoke to the WC about the DJ. She said that they are not requested very often - in fact she personally had never booked a DJ for a wedding. It says that they are available for 4 hrs at $1500. When I thought about timing I felt that the DJ may not be utilized to his/her fullest: reception @7 with welcome cocktails; dinner at 8pm with mariachi band for 45 min; opportunity for some short speeches - takes you to about 9/930. Then DJ from 9:30-11 (b/c technically that's the 4 hr reception window - not sure how strict they are on that timing)? But that is just my take...I've heard that brides at other resorts have had a dj and loved it - but the price was also a lot less. If you do chose IPOD: Iook at the lomas site "entertainment" section you will also find a pdf document with songs the DJ plays - wouldn't be that hard to use that as the basis for your selections. Plus there are multiple lists elsewhere in this forum.
  5. Question to anyone who is having or has had a legal ceremony in Mexico (or at least the judge through Karisma at Azul Sensatori). I found great information for ceremony scripts in one of the forum threads - I really like them. However, today I spoke with the WC and she said that we were not able to alter any of the judges speech even if we were to provide it in advance. I got a copy of what the judge says - and its ok - but not nearly as nice as some of the other ideas I read on here and doesn't incorporate a sand ceremony. I was wondering two things: 1) has anyone managed to have what the judge says changed for the legal ceremony? or 2) if it was not changed - did you/would you have someone from your wedding party speak before and after the ceremony adding other elements such as an intro and welcome, sand ceremony dialogue, etc? Its only 3 weeks away and I feel like the details just keep stacking up!!!
  6. Just wanted to share some info I recieved from my WC. We are having a legal marriage in Mexico and I was told that we are not able to alter what the judge says in any way. If we want to add other elements such as all these wonderful ideas on this thread - we have to have someone else speak after the legal ceremony. Please let me know if anyone has been told anything different!!
  7. Awe thanks! The countdown is on - in 26 days I will be a married woman! So many things to still prepare! I think that workplaces should grant brides-to-be pre-wedding leave - paid - similar to maternity leave!! LOL.
  8. I am bringing and paying for 2 photographers to accompany us for our wedding week (trip fully paid and cost of wedding photo package). I have chosen the family style meal option (39$ pp) for the reception meal. Do I need to include the photographers??? My thought was that I am paying for their trip to an all inclusive resort already - why don't they just have a break and go eat elsewhere and then just come back? Only problem I can think of is that I plan to have a mariachi band playing during our dinner and it may make for some nice photos... Anybody thought this through or any past brides that can provide some feedback? Thx! Hope everyone had an lovely Christmas and is looking forward to an amazing new year!

  11. As per chong (thanks chong) - just get the basic exotic gazebo in white and come armed with pics for the style you want. If you want colour - you have to pay more. Since I didn't want the candy cane look I enquired about the coloured sheers which they definitely could drape. The price is 150$ per sheer but they offered it to me at 100$ per sheer. I'm not sure what I am going to do because I started to think that a silver drape may be nice - but in the end its still 220 (white) vs 320 (silver with reduced rate) and I'm wondering if its worth it for a 20 min or less ceremony. I am having a legal ceremony. I don't think you need to have anything translated for them. You have to pay for bloodwork (which is done on site) and that needs to be included in your detail sheet. What you may want to pay for is the legal translation of the spanish wedding certificate to english. I think its 200$ and it is payable at the resort only (not through your WC in Miami). This is important because you will need an English wedding certificate to legalize your marriage when you get back home (at least this is true for Canadians). Don't stress about final payments. Mine was due today and I didn't pay it yet. I just told her I was too busy (which I truly am) and that I would need to settle up the bill next week sometime. She was fine with this. In the end - what are they going to do if you don't pay on exactly the day you were supposed to? Refuse your money and cancel your wedding? I wouldn't push it too far out but I definitely think there is flexibility with a few days. Hope that lifts a bit of stress for you!
  12. Also - early on someone asked about the exotic gazebo decor - re: candy cane wrap. Apparently that is the std for that decor. If you want the swag look you need to pay more. The sheets are shorter for the exotic gazebo decor and cannot be hung in the swag style. I am currently trying to find out what this upgraded price is because I need to finalize my payments in the next couple days.
  13. Have any past brides gone to outside vendors for their wedding party flowers? I know Azul does not permit outside vendors on their property - but who can stop me from meeting someone outside the resort to pick up my bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages ???? I find their pricing a bit rediculous considering the fact that I can't even see what I am getting for that money, they respond terribly if at all to any requests and you don't get to see any other options other than what is on Lomas website. I will end up buying gazebo flowers from them and likely a few others - but I think working with a florist directly in Playa may be cheaper for the other stuff. Thoughts?
  14. hmmm...good point I hadn't thought of. Did you order the tall glass vase arrangements from Lomas? If so - were you responsible for the cost of the breakage? I guess I could ask the onsite coordinators to take out the flowers and fill them with sand first...
  15. I am ordering tall glass vases to double as my isle runners during the ceremony and then table toppers at the reception. Gazebo flowers will also be transferred too! I wish I nudged my FI more - all the suits will be done in the nick of time for the wedding next month. Hopefully I guess I shouldn't worry - I gave up on my original wedding dress when I went for a fitting a couple weeks ago! I will never buy from a sample sale again! Fortunately a local wedding shop still carried the designer I love and I found "the dress". I got so lucky! It too will be ready right before we leave...
  16. How did you manage that deal?! I am having callas and orchids too and have already told them that their quote of 300$ is outrageous but I haven't heard back yet. Quote Just an option, you can do real touch orchids if you really want orchids. I wasn't budging on the fact that I wanted callas and orchids. The resort quoted me $300 for them and I refused to pay that. My bouquet wound up costing less than $100.
  17. Do you mean paying for the "trip" or the "wedding details and events"? Our deadline for trips just came up on the 23rd and our wedding planners/travel agents were terrible at follow up or accuracy in Toronto. The trip cost deadline appears to be quite flexible as we still have people paying for their trips at their quoted rates if they made the deposit. As for the wedding details - I have Carolina in Miami - she has been very easy to deal with and helpful. I just populated my entire "detail sheet" then made a list of questions and scheduled a teleconference to go over everything and fill me in on my "question list" I put together. Our payments for the wedding events is not due until 1 month before the wedding - you can still continue to make changes to your detail sheet until then. Don't "overpay in advance" - you can always add your last minute people and pay at the resort. I have totally by-passed communication with the local wedding coordinators - I don't even cc them on emails.
  18. I have some politically sensored information about how I am feeling about some aspects of my wedding planning at this time. I would love to know if someone knows who the name of the florist/website/catalogue I am going to spend a small fortune in fresh flowers is going to be - b/c I would love to be able to work through them directly instead of 2 middle-man.
  19. Actually found this studio through another lady who posted on the forum. Plus they do hair and make up...which I fail at both. So that alone should make me look good! And just to let you know the last 2 months have been really stressful...so not many workouts and really not feeling wedding shape ready...sigh....next week! Are you kidding me?! you are in tip top shape already! The photos will be amazing!
  20. Great pictures! I too am interested in your OOT bag contents...where did you find the "Oh S#!t kit" container and was it filled with the contents already? And the spanish for dummies - was it the pocket guide you can find on-line? Thanks for sharing
  21. Reception question - I am having my reception at Plaza Zavas. I'm trying to work in a slide show. I wondered if anyone has ever inquired about bringing their own laptop and projector but renting a screen only and the cost they were quoted?
  22. I've had second guesses about everything and changed plans many times so I know how you feel! I think it is because we start to plan so far in advance and then so many other great ideas come along. Focus on what is truly important to you and be confident with your decisions - no one will notice the details that are concerning you. If you feel that you truly did chose the wrong dress - can your deposit be applied to another dress? If not - find the dress you love - sell the other one on ebay! One of my friends did this just recently!
