  1. Anybody try to get an estimate for a teired cupcake cake? I've been waiting for over a month to see if they can do it and if so - how much - but no response yet
  2. Anyone use zazzle? I've designed OOT bags and stickers with them and it seems to be amazing...I just haven't purchased yet. I've read some positive reviews online - but thought I would check in with you guys... I want to add travel candles to my OOT bags too - found the best at beau-coup - does anyone else have a different/good recommendation (they seam so small!!!!)??--- They don't need to be personalized either! Want to add lip balm to the OOT bag - but I am not convinced of the non-mainstream lip balm. Any recommendations or perhaps endorsements for the non-mainstream lip balm types they sell as party favours? Any sales for Body Shop or Bath and Body works I should wait for instead of buying from regular bridal stores??? (getting married Jan 2011) Anything past and future brides would recommend for OOT bags??? So far my plan is for a personalized bag, lip balm, candle, maybe chocolate, plus the list of events etc. I plan to have my guests leave with maracas and shot glasses made in Mexico - but they will not get those until the wedding day. I was thinking about the "hangover kit" too - but have yet to source that. Another question - one or two oot bags per room? I was going to do one per couple and one per person if they were not a couple... thx. natasha
  3. Those are really pretty! They look real! You will have to let us know if they are as impressive "in vivo"!
  4. Anyone scheduling a group excursion for their guests? I'm having a hard time deciding what to do. Our last trip to the Mayan we did the Coba, Cenotes and zip lining eco excursion and a swimming session with non-captive turtles in the ocean. I thought it would be nice to do something like go to tulum and/or repel into the cenotes. Thoughts?
  5. Your pictures are gorgeous! Wondering about your sand ceremony - I love the conch shells and photo box - is that what they provided you with or is this something you brought along? Also - where did you hold your reception?
  6. I was wondering if the family meal was worth the added cost (vs BBQ) and you may have convinced me that it is! I guess by privacy I didn't mean "exclusivity". I realize there will be on-lookers everywhere and this doesn't bother me. Specifically - I didn't want to share restaurant space with other people for my reception even though they try to segregate areas. I just wanted my own "area". The beach was also one of our options for this reason. Just somewhere different where family and friends would otherwise not have eaten.

The $5 were about 8" long, while the $10 ones were larger. I am sure if you bought a whole bunch you could easily get them down to about $3/piece. As for handmade tequila glasses....saw lots of prefab ones with hand painting on them (ranging from $3-7). As for ceramic ones, only saw a few and they were about $5-7 /piece. It was me - Thanks murmel.
  8. I'm not a big "omg I love...colour X". For my wedding however I am a fan of a deep purple (plum) or burgandy if pushed into a corner to decide. So...I've looked at a few websites, incl "the knot" and I am not convinced by any one colour as "awesome".... but I am partial to the plum/purple: the debate (all including green and likely some white with a plum backdrop): purple and orange purple and yellow purple and lime only another combo??? My style is- sharp, modern and simple. Thoughts?
  9. One more opinion I would like to add - the colours may not go together as seamless/complimentary - pink, white and chamagne (starting base) vs peacock rich deep colours. Two very different colour scemes. Then - depending on your wedding colours... but great creativity!
  10. Any B2B or new Brides experience the atmosphere of the "teen club" converted into night/dance club with DJ for adults after 11pm?
  11. I think your idea is unique, fun and cute. My candid opinion: I would not do the peacock feathers - because - I think they will become damaged under the gown (assuming your gown is long). I am thinking about adding peacock feathers to my calililly bridal bouquet (bringing my own).
  12. Great planning journal! Congrats! I think you made a great decision! I'm not an Indian bride but my TA/wedding coordinator locally (Toronto) coordinated the Indian wedding mentioned ealier. The coordinator from Toronto travelled with the group to act as the liaison between the bride and the resort. She said that everything went smoothly and that it was beautiful. 117 people in attendance. I have the same number of people. I am having a private reception at Zavas plaza. #1 I wanted the privacy #2 I like the look of the location #3 its yours for the entire time scheduled #4 private bar = quick service. Afterwards - I just learned today that the "teen club" transforms at 11pm into an adults only dance club with dj. My coordinator (who was on site for a 10-10-10 wedding) said that it was more lively than the mojito lounge. Mojito lounge has some music/bands but definitely more subdued according to my TA - e.g., no dancing. When I asked if it was "teen like" in appearence - she said no. Maybe brides that have been can give their opinion on the quality of the teen hangout turns adult only after 11??? I am doing a coctail reception but as a welcome cocktail. The time in between my ceremony and the reception will probably be less than 1.5 hrs - I am going to advise people to gather at a bar for a drink in between or go back to their room for a siesta if desired! I am almost 100% certain that we will go with that menu. I think it has something for everyone. That or the Mexican buffet. Reasons: versitile menu - people can select what they want. Downfalls: buffet Trade-off: There is no pick and choose menu that allows guests to decide what they want. I don't feel comfortable "choosing" a menu for over 40 people when they have already paid to stay at an all-inclusive resort where every restaurant allows them to choose according to their tastes. What I would have preferred: a pick an choose menu with some variety that is plated and served. (from what I understand - doesn't exist) My TA told me that many items are placed into warming dishes and then there is a BBQ set up to cook/grill main courses. I'm assuming that they replenish as needed.
  13. I'm doing the same thing. I don't think its a long time. Ceremony will be done by 5:30 - I will be telling my guests to linger by the bar - I'm sure there won't be many disappointed guests!
  14. Wow - this link was great too. I've think I've decided the location now Sand ceremony price is listed as 45$ on the lomas site http://weddings.lomas-travel.com/planning/details.php?category=Wedding-Officials&idc=25
  15. Thanks - took a little bit of digging but found the album. Great album JaimeCF2! To save the searching for others/newbies - here is the link: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/gallery/album/view/id/8388/user_id/30664 Anybody opting for the sand ceremony? Wondering what the vases/pouring devices look like or if there are options...
  16. Does anyone know what the details are to the "romantic ocean front ceremony location" in the "free sweet wedding package"? I was planning on renting a gazebo but it looks like there is a permanent/fixed gazebo like structure on the beach already that only needs sheets/flowers to spice it up.
  17. Here is a short you tube video of Plaza Zavas for those interested... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqSaGbAM68Q
  18. Not sure. It has always been an option. I haven't actually "booked" the pkg because I didn't do all the math until a week ago but I know for sure that it was offered and discussed with my TA. The only thing you have to do is buy an upgraded room - premium. She even verified availability of the room for me already based on the "free wedding" pkg. Also - if you look at the Lomas site you can see that the offer is valid in the US or Canada.
  19. Maracas - maybe a foot long or so? I plan on attaching seating arrangements to the handles for the reception. Examples I found on the net: Ideally, I would prefer a touch of elegance - but i am having problems finding a pic on the net that may resemble my idea. So either the above or something with deep blues, silver, mayan symbols - if it all exists!? Has anyone else found great maracas?? Tequila glasse examples: I've confirmed the Plaza for ours on the 26th. It took a week and a half before I got the confirmation if that is any reassurance. Here is a pic of the vases I would like to double as centre pieces for the reception - were they the same ones you were thinking?: Hope you have a great bday and vacation! I'm jealous
  20. Yes - the ones on the lomas site that stand on the ground. I don't mind the look of tall centrepieces but not sure if it would be overkill. I'll think I will email them to determine the height - overall and vase alone. Thats great you have a chance to go to Cancun before the wedding. Let me know if you see any nice maracas and handmade tequila shot glasses for good prices if you happen to walk by some. Those were two things we were probably going to pick up for the wedding while there so we can give away something local. Where are you holding your reception?
  21. What were you thinking about centrepieces? I was thinking about ordering the large vases with flowers and using them by the chairs for the ceremony and then having them transferred to the tables at the private reception afterwards - but wondering if it may be too tall???
