That is not what I needed only 5 days before I leave, but it all worked out! To all you ladies out there planning for 2011...be prepared it FLIES by!!! I was amazed at how fast it all came. My best advice is to try your hardest to stay calm. I know there are going to be things that frustrate you and you can't get answers for (welcome to the 2010 nightmare), but don't panic. You have time to sort those out. I feel like I am going into the Royal completely blind. There are things that I have no idea about, but I figure once I get there I will just know. It is hard to imagine something you have never seen before. I promise to post lots of pictures and a very detailed review. One thing I kind of wish someone posted on here with their review, but I never saw was exactly what the wedding coordinator gives you options on. When I sit in front of Zulma and make all those difficult decisions I will keep a notebook handy so that I can make a list. Maybe that will help ease the planning stages a bit. If there is anything else you want to know tell me now or forever hold your peace..ha! dear date twin one thing that keeps me sane is knowing that there have been brides that have shown up to the resorts with nearly nothing planned. and if THEY can end up with a gorgeous wedding, i most certainly can too! i'm at the gran porto at 6:00 - what time is your ceremony?

(and sorry the forcast for the 14th changed - lots of time for it to decide to change back!)
  4. thanks for sharing your insight. i'm having a beach wedding, too (next weekend, yay!), and would be grateful for any tips for that as well!
  5. thanks! i'm at the gran porto, and the 3 locations (2 beach, 1 gazebo) are all taken for the 4:00 slot listed. my wedding isn't until 6:00, so i hope that they're staggered enough or far enough apart so we don't have dance music blasting nearby when we're trying to say our vows! anyone that's been down for a site review - did you stop by the gran porto and see multiple weddings/receptons at once? just wondering how invasive they'll be. i'll be arriving to the resort a week from right now (probably almost exactly) so i guess i'll find out soon enough on my own, but just thought i might check first...

A note though...the beach at the resort is a public beach so the photographers can have whatever they want. Ours came the day after and did a shoot on the beach with backlighting etc. . We were prepared to pay the extra 100 if it became an issue, but they never said anything...so dont pay it in advance is my advice! ok, great. thanks for the info. very helpful! JESS - do you remember the name of the beach on the gran porto side that you thought was so pretty? i'm at playa norte, crossing my fingers that it happens to be the prettiest one (at least in your opinion)! thanks!
  7. ok, so i'm bringing a photographer friend down from home to shoot the wedding. IF he doesn't stay at the resort for the night of the wedding, will i be charged a vendor fee AND a day pass charge, or just the vendor fee? thanks ladies...
  8. yay, so good to hear all of those good points. glad everything seemed to work out so well. looking forward to your pictures!

  10. that's the same info i got from AA when i called them last week about bringing my dress on the flights. dumb that they won't hang it! i'm still gonna plan on trying to sweet talk them into it. but we'll plan on sharing the one carry on. and my purse (personal item) will probably be the biggest one i have! a longshot, i know!

  13. lisa, yep, it's the same. options are a semi-private, which is held is one of the resort restaurants. private receptions are an upgrade for some of the packages (like mine, the classic) and can be held in a ballroom or on the beach (i'm gathering that the royal also has garden areas, as well. hope that helps.

  15. the odds of rain are low. even when it does rain in places like PDC, it's usually pretty fast and moves on quickly. i'll be absolutely fine with a little delay, but really (really!) don't want to be moved into a ballroom. my ceremony mentions the ocean, sand, waves, etc. several times. it wouldn't be right if we were in an interior room (not to mention the cute shoes i could have found if we weren't on the sand!).
  16. there are multiple ballrooms. they keep one reserved for each wedding in case of weather. i had to fight for my beach space, so i will be so sad if i end up in a ballroom anyway! hoping for lots of sunshine and dry weather for all of us!

May I ask who your photographer/videographer is? Did you go with outside vendor cuz the resort photographer isn't good enough? thanks! in case you're still looking, here's the info i received for the resort photographers: Photo_Catalogue.pdf Photo_Economic_English_`09.doc
  18. hi, i'm getting married this next weekend at the gran porto in playa, but just popped in here to see what's happening over on the island! if you want to wear heels AND have a beach wedding, you totally can do that! just get a piece of wood where you'll be standing and cover it just enough with sand, and voila! you get to have the added height of heels and be standing "in" the sand. as far as walking through the sand to get there (or down the aisle), i haven't heard an answer, but hopefully that helps with one part of the problem!

  20. it's been mentioned before, bit i haven't seen a lot of responses. what, if anything, are people planning on tipping people at the resort? i know the all-inclusive says that tips are included. anything to your onsite WC? anyone else?
  21. i need to vent just a little... after waiting two months for the designer to make my wedding band, my fiance was finally able to pick it up on saturday. the only problem? the lady who helped us at the jeweler ordered the wrong ring for me! it was wrong designer, obviously the wrong style, and even the wrong size! this morning i'm waiting for the jeweler (with whom we have been super impressed, minus the mistake of this particular lady) to get in touch with the designer this morning to see how they're going to be able to fix it for us and to call and let me know the plan. i leave for mexico in a little over a week. hoping they'll be able to put a rush on everything! i'm not completely freaking out over this. the ring we currently have is similar and is only half a size too big. so IF they can't make me a new one before the wedding, at least i'll have a band to use. it would be nice, however, to have my actual wedding band, and the one that matches my e-ring, in our wedding pictures. fingers crossed.
  22. it has begun! our first may brides are now married and the next ones are leaving soon! good luck as you go. i am super excited for the onslaught of pictures! yay!
