  1. We are going to do the symbolic ceremony and then get married once we get back. Our resort hasn't asked for any kind of proof or anything on the symbolic marriage. We are actually debating coming back home thru Vegas and having a private just the 2 of us legal ceremony at a chapel there.... just to make the legal part more fun! I was trying to locate a minister down there to make the ceremony more personal and she actually recommend that I don't get legally married in Mexico as she has seen it to be very hard for brides to obtain additional certified copies of their marriage for various reasons. So that is something to think about down the road too.....
  2. Brining in outside vendors? Is everyone using the minister the hotel provides? I found a lady Petra out of Cancun (found her on Cancun Photography website) that does unique cermonies and caters to how you want the ceremony to be. I was concered about the ceremony being in Spanish with a translator (I know a little petty after all I chose Mexico for getting married). Plus we want to incorporate some of the Mayan wedding traditions into the ceremony and Petra offered to arrange this. Paola at the Resort sent me a link on the Mayan ceremony but it seems a little more than what I want. It seems that photographers are $150 extra to bring in outside. Then everyone else is the day pass cost which I think is about $80 pp. Just curious what everyone was doing for ceremonys at Sandos.
  3. I just got a quote from my TA and they were saying 7 day packages for Feb 2010 were showing up at $1600 pp and May 2010 was showing up at $1000 pp. So I am thinking May it is! :-)
  4. My WC sent me this link that shows what the cermony is like. Boda Maya Boda Mistica Eventos Luz
  5. I heard from some people in the industry in Mexico that you should do a symbolic ceremony and get married legally at home, as she had heard of people needing a certified copy of your marriage and not being able to find one or obtain one in a timely manner. We are going to do the symbolic Mayan mystic/cosmic ceremony and then get married legally at home... just for the ease of paperwork. My parents were married in Germany and they had a legal and symoblic dates... they celebrate both! Double the fun!
  6. that is amazing.... I have seen quite the range of ceremony types! Thank you for all the great information and photos. Sounds like I need to talk to the wedding coordinator at the hotel and if not go outside.
  7. We are getting married at Sandos Playcar they don't advertise this optoin but when I asked they said it was available for $600 USD and the link to the website seemed a little weird. I am not sure if this is who they hire or if it was more to give me an idea of what the ceremony would be like. We are only doing a symbolic ceremony in Mexico, so we thought this would be a nice change. I will find out more in Sept we we go for a site visit.
  8. How long did your mayan ceremonies last? I am really intersted in doing this but the website our wedding coordinator sent me on it was really vague. I have also heard about the lasso of love being part of some of them. Where they wrap you in lasso of flowers or something to sybolize your connection. I just think it would be an interesting experience for us and the guests. Your pictures are great, I think I am going to have to get more details from the wedding coordinator during our visit in September. Thanks for all the info ladies!
  9. I was thinking of having incorporating some of the ancient Mayan pieces into a ceremony. Has anyone done this? If so can you recommend anyone I should work with. We will be getting married at Sandos Resort in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.
  10. I am so glad I stumbled across this thread! We are all bride twinkies! (ok well multiple twinkies really) We are planning a May wedding at Sandos Playacar in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. We have not set our official date yet but either May 1 or May 15 if we can secure this with the resort. We are just strating to get the process rolling. You are all much further ahead of us. I think at this point we might do STD /Invites and just save the money on multiple mailings. Plus we have some that are internet savey and some that will not be. So we will have to do a lot of manual follow up I think. But so far most have commented that they would be able to make it. Lets see if they book. We are taking a trip down there in September to meet with the WC and get a look at everything. Photographer is the one thing I am struggling with. The good ones are sooooo expensive and my little budget goes into stroke when I look at their prices. But the quality difference is so clear between some of them. This part is stressing me out! It is great to have a group on the same time line as you! Cheers!
  11. Do you have Archivers there? They have work areas in that store that may let you borrow the machine? I think it is just called a paper crimper. Also I would bet Kinkos or some printing store would print the vellum for you pretty reasonably. I haven't tried printing on it. My friends are all huge stampers and scrapebookers so I learn from them. http://www.stampinup.com/ECWeb/default.aspx?cid=34 This is stamping up website and you can search in the tools section for all the gadgets.
  12. Do have a craft store around? You buy the basic paper and then there is a macine your run it thru that makes it crinkle like that. The top part looks like velum and you can just run that thru the printer. Most craft store will have the decals you can attached and the raffia string that they made the tie with. Michael's Hobby Lobby Most Fabric Stores Wal-Mart & Target sometimes have that kind of stuff in their flower and fabric area. Stampin' Up will have all those products but will cost a little more. Good luck, they are neat invites.
  13. That is so crazy you basically planned 2 weddings in 6 monts! :-) That is good to know.... I think you are right the more time you take the more you will do. It just depends on timing and dedication. So both have good and bad.
  14. Thanks to all for the great information and comments. The travel agent is pulling some prices together so that may seal the deal for a value for our guests... So if we go with February do you think that 6 months is too soon or would you recommend waiting until next year? (that seems so long... I am not so patient) :-)
  15. My sister just wore A in a destination wedding in the tourqouise color. She said the dress was VERY comfortable and cool for the warm weather in the DR in July. She is large chested and the strapless wasn't a problem for her....

    New here!

congrats and welcome... there is a ton of information on here.... just finding it can be challenge enough, but enjoy!
  17. It is very elegant looking, I am excited to find my perfect dress too!
  18. I am asking for any advice possible. I am getting married in Playa de Carmen but can't decide a time of the year... we are stuck on any particular date and that is part of the problem! We just know that nov, dec and jan are not on our list. Any opinions? Thanks!
  19. I am planning on getting married at Sandos Playcar the sister resrot to Caracol. If you are looking for January 2010 you should contact them ASAP as the Playcar wedding coordinator said that was the only month that was full!
  20. If you are into some culutral and educational items, in the heart of Kansas City by the river area they have revived, there is a museum on a steamboat that they found. I think it is called the Arcadia? I thought it was a great museum and then all along that area they have little shops and cafes, etc.
  21. First off.... CONGRATS for quit smoking.... that is no easy task!! I like #1 it looks like great on you and it seems like it would be comfortable in the heat and on the beach. If you are having a more formal wedding then maybe it wouldn't work. I think if you aren't saying WOW! Then maybe you need to keep looking
