  1. Welcome. Know that if you are looking at the Rivieria Maya, there are tons of options for your wedding. Large resorts, smaller resorts, boutique hotels and villas rentals. Assess your wedding guests and see what is best for them and you. though resorts have made it easy for wedding there are some headaches that go along with it. having personalized service can make a huge difference in your wedding instead of being a number... the Riviera Maya is full of great places to do your wedding so search the forum as this is what it is for, to get you the information you need and find the best solutions for you. have fun planning
  2. Check out the smaller boutique hotels so you can take it over and have a super intimate wedding...the service at the PDC hotels in town is great and they love doing wedding groups. it will depend on the size of your group and if they are okay with being outside a resort, they should be it is actually more fun and can be less expensive, but you need to look at your audience. Many expats own hotels in town so you wont have to deal with language issues or cultural issues. It is a great way to go and a lot more fun
  3. This is incredible. I have to say again, look at smaller hotels in the PDC area that are not resorts and i am sure you will find that you can do it for less and get a better and friendlier response. I have booked friends up to 18 months in advance and with a wedding planner, they were done with their arrangements a year in advance as the smaller hotels want to work with brides and their groups. You will get a great rate, depending on the hotel of course and you will have a super intimate experience. the wedding planners who do not work for resorts do a great job, can get you what ever you want and you will have personal service, not just a wedding of thousands where you are a number not a person. check out some of the planners and see what you can find but there are some good ones out there....and some really great small hotels in pdc
  4. Okay so there is a small but lovely cenote in PDC in a small hotel called tropical CasaBanca. The website is Playa del Carmen - Hotel Tropical CasaBlanca, Riviera Maya, Mexico it does not compare to Grand Cenote, dos ojos or the ones with large formations but the owner is really open to having people taking pictures for free as they love their little jewel. I have been to a few weddings that they do in the cenote, and they are beautiful. Have a look on the website and i am sure if you email the owner and tell her what you are doing she would allow you in free of charge...there are bunch of turtles in there as well. it is also located right in the heart of PDC so it is easy to get to.
  5. There are reasons for getting the legal work in Mexico or getting the legal work at home... here is the deal if you do the legal marriage in mexico: 1. you will have to go and get blood test, make sure you and your witnesses have the proper identification and copie of this, mexico loves their copies. 2. your marriage license will be in spanish, there is not an option for english or any other language for that matter. When you arrive home you will have to get a legal translation of the marriage license for the name change process. 3. the ceremony, depending on who officiates, should have the option of english and spanish. when ever my friends have been married and used the Civil service the justice of the peace did speak english, it was not perfect english but he could do the ceremony in english. 4. Hopefully you can do all of this in your hotel instead of having to go to the civil office in playa del carmen. YOu will need three days in advance to do the paperwork so that it is arranged for your wedding date. 3 working days. The option of getting married legally at home is a good one if you dont want the hassle of the above options. But if you want a true mexican wedding then get it done, knowing what you ahve to do when you get home. The mexican legal document is fun and not that difficult to do. It is just the after effects when you get home. also most wedding planners fed ex the license to you about a month after which can be a pain as well. have fun with the planning.
  6. Wow, women, i am dumbfounded that the resorts make you wait. Unbelievable. have you considered using some smaller boutique hotels in PDC or the area that would be more that happy to book your reservations right away. I live in Mexico and help my friends all the time with their bookings. though resorts are the norm, you can have a super great beach wedding at smaller hotels that love to work with brides. The waiting is a frustration for all and if you are looking at 1600 usd all in, per person so 3200 usd per couple you could do a small hotel which you can book up completely and have to yourself and your guests and rock the place. this is generally my suggestion to brides and it works like a charm for them. the wedding ends up being more intimate, more fun and you really end up with quality time with your guests. to top it off, depending on how much you want to venture into mexico, you can have a real destination wedding that experiences the true culture of mexico. the smaller hotels can do as much if not more than the large resorts. Trip bookings, dinner arrangements, beach clubs, etc... think about it..then you can book, get things out there and take things off your list.... have fun with things..and if you need suggestions happy to do so....
  7. The book up quickly so call inadvance. Also you will have to send a deposit to them for the booking. ask how you do this outside of mexico. You may want to consider using the Capilla which is the small church located on 5th ave. it is a beautiful church, easy for people to get to and has a stunning view of the ocean. You can nto get any better than this! good luck!
  8. The deal should be made directly with the agent and you should be able to get a group discount for over 10 bookings. Discuss this with your agent and then let people know. if they find a better deal elsewhere then let them book through another agent but you should be able to get a group booking.
  9. La Parrilla my be what you are looking for. It is located on 5th Ave, on the corner of 8th street. there are mariachis, is kid friendly and you can ask your resort concierge for coupons that give you 10% off. Currently they have a discount of 25% for everyone so depending on when your wedding is, this may apply. If you ahve a large group you will need to book in advance. this will let the restaurant know that you are coming and they can make sure they are prepared for a big group. If it is small then there should not be an issue. Another suggestion is Madre Tierra, a bit more upscale, kid friendly and the atmosphere is abit nicer. Entrees range from 8 usd to 20 usd. Fusion is on the beach and a great night out if you want to be on the beach. It is funky and fun, inexpensive and if there is not a lot of wind, a nice place to hang out in a bohemian feeling type of place. Again if you are group i would arrange things in advance. finally for a more upscale international place, there is Zenzi on the beach, great place to hang out, if you are group they will do a menu to order. they do have movie night under the stars on Mondays so you may want to avoid that night. good luck with your search and hope you ahve a great wedding.
  10. My suggestion is to buy something in the Riviera maya when you get here. Depending on how many people you are having to your wedding, carrying stuff to the wedding can be a pain. Add your dress, your shoes and your regular luggage and you will be over the wallowed weight for sure. The hot sauce idea is great and you can do the personal labels at home and bring that with you. The marraccas are also a great idea as you can put them on the table and use that as your 'kissing' signal instead of clinking glasses. There is a walmart and tons of craft stores in Playa Del Carmen, and though you dont want to be doing work when you are here, the wedding is work enough, you also dont want to have to lug a ton of stuff and pay a 100 cdn fee for bringing it with you. to keep on your theme of the pearl napkin holders, why not consider doing a bag of shells, easily purchased and the organza bags can be obtained at a material story called assis so it looks great...then you keep with the beach theme, people can put the shells in various places at home and they get a great little bag...you can double this as a name placement label and you are done! Have fun with your wedding!
