Starlitk's Planning Thread
wahmsuzanne replied to starlitk's topic in Destination Wedding Planning Journal
Wow! Everything looks so beautiful! We were out walking around that evening/night and saw your set up and it was just gorgeous in person! I love all the detail you put into your wedding/reception and OOT bags. Loved reading this ... and congratulations! *SmiLes* Suzanne -
I'm looking for a referral for some video editing. We did not hire a professional videographer but we had our own small video cameras and we'd like to have it put together (possibly with some pictures) and with music. Please let me know if you have someone who does this type of work. Thanks! Suzanne

PS can't wait for more pics and of course the review! Thanks! It was so fun ... I really wish we were still there LOL The columns are theirs (DT) and you pay $50 per column. I got the idea from Rebecca and George's dinner/reception ... they had 4 of them in a big square around all their tables (on the beach beside the SSG) and the lanterns were strung all the way around (it was gorgeous). My niece and I ran into Rebecca and George after their reception and I offered to purchase the lanterns ... they said I could have them. (Thanks again!) and when I told Landy I wanted that set up ... she suggested the 2 columns instead of 4 ... and she suggest 10 lanterns. I was so happy with how it looked. I know Landy could've charged me the $200 and put up 4 columns ... so I really appreciate how she saved me money and made it look beautiful. *SmiLes* Suzanne

I have awesome news to report! We had absolutely amazing weather for our ceremony and our dinner. All that "crying for nothing" LOL We were married on the beach near Seaside Grill and had our dinner at the Dolphin Pool and I just couldn't be happier. Landy was just amazing to me (as was everyone there!) and she just made all of my dreams come true. I want to thank everyone on this forum ... I honestly couldn't (or wouldn't) have done this without all of you. I will start writing my review this weekend and get some photos put up too. If anyone has any questions please let me know and I'll be happy to answer for you. *huGs* Suzanne

That means so much to me ... the weather has been "better" so I'm doing much better too. Yesterday I was in the spa booking some things and I saw (and briefly met) Chantel and she looked absolutely gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was so excited and happy for her ... Ken and I walked out of the spa and within a minute it started pouring again. My emotions are on such a rollercoaster ride I can't stand it. I believe it stopped in time for her ceremony so I hope it was wonderful for her. I am usually pretty calm and Ken is the high strung one and I have just been so up and down I can't stand it! I've been drinking like crazy to deal with it and that definitely helps LOL I am up and getting everything ready for my big day and I'll just be praying about the weather. Girls' hair at 11:00 and mine at 12:00 then get ready and keep praying. Landy is awesome! She's been very nice (as have all of the WCs I've managed to introduce myself to) and seems very organized. She wants me to decide if I'd like my outdoor choice (dolphin pool) or my inside backup plan - by 3:00 ... that is so difficult because the weather can change hourly here. If I go with outdoor and we get rained out she said we will just have dinner in a restaurant without any decor. If I take the indoor choice (SSG - covered) ... no music. *sigh* We'll see what happens *huGs* Suzanne P.S. Also met Rebecca and George and we will be using their chineese lanterns tonight - soooooo nice of them - I can't believe it! Their reception was on the beach and it looked so pretty. They had 4 towers with colored lights in them that they used to string the lanterns ... some ladies I met said it was so pretty they thought it was a "beach bar" and they went over looking for a drink LOL. It is a comfort to me to see/meet other gals from the forum

Ida ~ Thanks for the encouragement ... and I'm so glad the weather held out for you. It's so sporadic right now that I'm holding out hope (in between a couple of moments of tears LOL). Right as we were finishing dinner it starting pouring again ... lightening ... it's just a mess. Everything is flooding ... the hallways ... the disco had inches of standing water this morning ... *sigh* ... I don't want to complain or be negative ... and to do over again ... I would still book DT ... what can you do about weather?! As I've mentioned ... the people here are amazing! This morning I was asking about getting our group into town (Tulum) for some shopping and there was very loud thunder crackling and I just started crying! We have had everything planned out and we were to go to the ruins this morning and it was just not going to happen. The concierge was so sweet ... she assured me that they would do everything they could to give me the wedding of my dreams ... and asked what they could do right then to help me be happy. I told here I was so happy with DT ... just sad about the hard work and money to get here and the weather was upsetting me. She said what can I get you? She called someone to get my kids .. took them to the tables in the lobby and got them started on a game. I half jokingly told her maybe a shot of tequilla and she called and brought me a shot ... and the bartender remembered me and also brought a vodka diet coke (my drink) ... this is typical of the service I've had ... they remember you and your drinks and such ... it's just so impressive! I cried and laughed ... enjoyed my drinks ... stopped crying ... played with my kids for a few minutes ... went and got the rest of my group and went to town for some shopping. Yes, it rained ... but we didn't care. This evening on the way to dinner ... Ken's youngest (Cobey age 7) ran ahead and got in the elevator ... he got stuck in the elevator! We could hear him crying and he could hear us talking to him but no electronics would work. Ken called and within a couple of minutes a crew of 3 or 4 guys came and got him out. We met my sister and her husband at SSG for dinner and part way through the dinner a gentleman came and asked me if I was Mrs. "Soon to be Married Name" ... and I said yes. He said I'm the manager this weekend and I heard your son was stuck in the elevator and I want to make sure he's OK and see if there's anything we can do for you or your family. We still have NO IDEA how he knew who we were or how he found us for dinner (my sister got the table and used HER room number). Again, I'm so impressed! They really do go above and beyond! This evening I asked a couple if they wanted me to take a picture of them near the dolphin pool ... turns out it was dbutte55 from the forum! They were just married on Passion Island and she and I had emailed back and forth a few months ago ... I can't believe what a coincidence that was and it was so nice to run into someone I "knew!" I am very upset about the weather ... but it is in no way a reflection of how I feel about DT. It's so nice here! Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for the weather! It means the world to me ... I'm trying so hard to stay upbeat and the support is so important to me. Thanks a million! *huGs* Suzanne P.S. Sunbride ... thanks for the great idea about SSG ... I have my meeting with Landy in the morning and I'll mention all options and backup plans so I feel a little more calm. P.S.S. Lonna ... thanks for posting the great pics! Made me smile! And it's so fun to actually know where everything is now Everything was just beautiful and you looked gorgeous!

Hey ladies (and gents LOL) ... we got here Friday and everything is so beautiful and everyone so nice an accomodating. We are having horrible weather! It was great on Friday and part of yesterday but has been stormy and raining ... early this morning it was the worst thunderstorm I've seen in years (and we live in Texas and are used to this crap! LOL) and the roof of the World Cafe even caved in! No one was hurt and they quickly set up the Portofino restaurant for the breakfast crowd and we got in faily quickly there too. We ate at the Asian restaurant last night and we were spoiled rotten there! The food was to die for and the waiter ... kept bringing us "special plates" and it was so fun (I promise a full detailed review when I get home). I am of course having moments of tears wondering if I will have the wedding of my dreams ... it's supposed to rain all week and I really want to get married on the beach (lifelong dream). I saw 3 different wedding/dinner set ups last night and they were all gorgeous! I met Mixie23's *husband* LOL during their party ... but I didn't get the chance to meet her yet. Their set up was so pretty. I'll write more later ... I'm taking a ton of pictures and trying to get video ... I'll check back here ... so if anyone has any questions for me please post here or PM me and I'll do whatever I can to answer! I thank everyone on this forum ... I honestly couldn't have done this without all of you (or wouldn't have had the guts to go through with this! LOL). *SmiLes* and *huGs* for everyone! Suzanne P.S. If any brides who are here at DT now are reading this please contact me via front desk and/or Landy or whoever (Franco/Land wedding) ... I'd love to connect

Does anyone know of any xel ha discount tickets? We really want to go and take the kids and our group but it's $75 adult to get in ($37.50 kids) and I'd love to find a discount of some kind. Also I remember reading on here of someone who order sandwiches packed to go on an outing ... does anyone know more about that? I'd love to take lunch and eat on the beach after touring the ruins. I'm down to the wire ... we leave in 11 days. Thanks for all of the help ladies! *SmiLes* Suzanne

Did I see someone talking about needing receipts for the things we're bring with us for the wedding to get through customs? What's that mean? Help! LOL *SmiLes* Suzanne

I forgot to ask ... how much money is an appropriate tip for the wedding coordinator? How about others? I just want to make sure we're tipping an amount that is ... enough to let them know we appreciate them. I know it's up to each person ... I'd just like to hear from others what they've done or what they plan on doing. Thanks! *SmiLes* Suzanne

OMGosh! I'm getting so excited! We are so close I can't stand it. LOL We've had almost everyone cancel their plans to join us but we are still up for going and we are happy about the people who are coming with us. It will be Ken and I, our 5 kids, and 5 family members and our photographer (BDW Misti Abner - yea!) so 13 total. With so few of us I've decided to take the free package (we have the required 5 rooms booked) so I'm a bit confused about what our options are for our reception but I'm sure whatever we end up with will be wonderful. I'm hoping for either the dolphin pool or the adult pool ... but I'm not sure if they'll set us up there for so few of us (I don't want to pay $750 for this and I'm not clear on this). I'm bring my own artificial flowers for bouquets and such and my own chair decor ... so it makes the most financial sense to pay for my hair and makeup and any other extras. I'm just so excited ... we leave on the 26th and come back July 2nd (married on the 30th) ... and I'll give my review when we return. Thanks again to everyone for all of their help! I literally wouldn't have done it without all of the support. *huGs* Suzanne

What are you ladies using to get the rhinestones onto the mylar paper straight ... like tweezers? My fingers/joints aren't dainty and I have a hard time working with tiny things and with it being sticky is it hard to pick it back up and move it if you miss where it goes? Thanks! I have everything and I'm ready to try this ... if he'd ever leave (we both work from home)! LOL *SmiLes* Suzanne

OMGosh! I am soooo happy right now. I feel like the luckiest girl alive. I put up a jewelry request on Etsy to have my jewelry made (and for our two girls) and I found someone who I thought sounded like a match for my needs ... and I am so pleased. I hired Christine with Christine's Jewelry Designs: Handcrafted Jewelry (ChristineWDesigns on Etsy - Handmade Beaded Jewelry on Etsay - I'm not sure how to link to her store there so let me know if that link didn't work and I'll figure it out) and after email back and forth last week with dress pictures and such we both agreed on materials and somewhat of a look for my jewelry. I just got an email from her with a design idea for my necklace and I LOVE it! She nailed it! Exactly what I had in mind (even though I couldn't describe what I had in mind LOL) and I can't stop smiling. I knew I wanted to incorporate a starfish so we both scoured the internet in search of a starfish that was either silver or white gold with cz's ... and she chose the rest of the materials. My fiance gave me a diamond tennis bracelet several years ago that I've never been able to wear because it was too small (I have very large bones/wrist) so I had a new latch put on thus giving it more length and I had it plated w/white gold and will surprise him by wearing the bracelet. So I wanted the bling and some off-white pearls to match the dress ... simple yet elegant ... and high end materials so I could have it forever. Here's what she came up with and I love it so I just had to share! Thanks for letting me share *SmiLes* Suzanne

LOL I was just going to start using a good self tanner and hope I get very dark before we leave but then after reading that it will fade from the swimming pool and I'll spend a lot of time in the pool that could be bad too. I just want to have a good tan without destroying my skin! *sigh* Suzanne -

Great thread ... is this a self-tanner or do you have to layout in the sun for it to work? For those who are just trying it ... how did it work out? I think we have Ultra here so I'm going to look for this. Thanks! Suzanne
