  1. I went with Stephanie Morton at Ajua Weddings and I highly recommend her! She planned our ceremony on a semi-secluded beach, and I cannot be more thrilled with her professionalism and attention to detail. I am a bit of a perfectionist, such that if something doesn't go right, I over-react by taking control. With Stephanie, I didn't feel the need to do that because she's even more of a perfectionist than I am. She's so on top of things that I felt relaxed throughout the entire planning process. When we met, I just felt such a great calm because I knew things were taken care of. Her email is [email protected]. We got married here in Playacar/Playa del Carmen:
  2. Hi, just wanted to add my vote for Ajua Weddings. Stephanie Morton planned my wedding on a semi-secluded beach, and I cannot be more thrilled with her. She is extremely detail-oriented, and you're right, she holds your hand throughout the entire process. I am a bit of a perfectionist, such that if something doesn't go right, I over-react by taking control. 3. I also want to mention that we ate at Negrosal - on 1st avenue and Calle 16. The food was amazing. The decor and atmosphere was more upscale than John Gray's (we were going for more of a good food/laid back atmosphere with our wedding so we chose John Gray's). If you're looking for good food with a more upscale feel, I highly recommend Negrosal.
  4. I just got back from our wedding in Playa del Carmen. My fiance and I chose the non-resort route because we wanted a more private beach for the ceremony, and a more private reception. We're extremely happy with this decision! For the beach ceremony, we went with Stephanie Morton at Ajua Weddings. I highly recommend her! She coordinated the beach ceremony (location, chairs, music, amplifiers, drinks, logistics of the ceremony, etc.) and was on top of every detail. I will review her thoroughly in another post, but in case you're having questions about how to have a non-resort wedding, she is a good point of contact. Her email is [email protected]. For the reception, we held it at John Gray's Place on Calle Corazon. The location is semi-private, set back from the main 5th avenue, in a small cobblestone street called Calle Corazon. We had about 35 guests and he allowed us to use the whole indoor part of the restaurant. Food was very good, service was more European than American (food brought out slowly, meal stretched out), drinks were very good as well. Afterwards, we all met up at John Gray's Den, the bar directly across from the restaurant. John Gray can be reached at [email protected].
  5. This forum gives such good information. Based on the recommendations here, I contacted Fernando and Doranna a couple days before my wedding. I had originally planned to do my hair myself but couldn't get it quite right. Fernando and Doranna were extremely responsive and professional. In the end, I decided to go with Doranna because I decided to do my own make-up (Fernando seems to be known for his make-up and hair team). Doranna is extremely talented; her up-dos are really amazing (she did up-dos for my sisters and mom, they all raved). She warned me against having my hair down due to the humidity and wind (something I didn't think about), so we decided on half up, half down for the wedding day. The hair stayed all the way through midnight that day! Here's her contact info: [email protected] Freelance Italian Hair Stylist in Mexico - Doranna Hair Stylist - Playa del Carmen - Riviera Maya - Cancun - Tulum Here's Fernando's contact info (I would've booked him if I wanted both hair and make-up, or make-up only): [email protected] the-makeup-pros
  6. I'd like to recommend Robb Hiner. He works with John Gray of John Gray's Place (a restaurant) in Playa del Carmen. I had emailed him a couple of inspiration photos, and he put together the bouquet and table centerpieces beautifully. I'm attaching a couple photos of the bouquet. Overall, he charged me $400 for 6 table centerpieces and a bouquet, all generously sized and beautifully done. Here's his contact info: Robb Hiner [email protected]
  7. Thanks for the welcome everyone! Sounds like it's a popular location!
  8. I'm considering these condo hotels for our wedding party: Porto Playa (Porto Playa Condo Hotel - Playa del Carmen Hotels in Mexico with a Unique touch - Beautiful Condominium Rentals in Playa del Carmen - a short block from the beautiful Playa del Carmen Beach) There's also other non-inclusive resorts in the area - La Tortuga, La Petite Lafitte, and if I could afford it, Le Reve looks really nice and private.
  9. Hi everyone, thanks for the warm welcome! FutureMrsUnderwood and Stephanie: We're probably going to have a wedding at the beach and then reception at a restaurant. We're looking into staying at a condo or villa, and some of our guests are probably going to stay at an AI. We visited the Royal back in February and it was a really nice place - right in the center of everything. When we went in February, we planned on having the wedding in Cancun but it didn't feel quite right. We decided to try PDC on a whim and loved it! Can't wait to finalize the wedding and reception locations so I can start dress shopping and work on the invites.
  10. Hi! I've been following this forum for the past 6 months as my fiance and I have been trying to find our wedding location. We've finally decided on PDC and can't wait to start the planning! This forum has been so helpful. I hope to share my experience and learn from others here. Fahm
