  1. More photo's: This one has 3 oversized beach towels in it:
  2. Just book the photographer as a guest at the hotel. You can even book them for 1 night in your same hotel room or at the Beach/Caribe for cheaper. They aren't really staying the night there, they just need a bracelet & to show they are a 'guest' of the hotel. We did this & got a room for our Videographer & Photographer for $150 total, much cheaper than the $300 & the WC was fine with that. Not happy, but fine.
  3. I used Winnie Vallejo very resonable & great video http://cjandkatiehart.shutterfly.com/video
  4. Try my photographer, he was great & extremly resonable Octaviomontes.com
  5. Hey girls, Its 3 days for a legal wedding & 2 days for a non-legal. FYI... we brought our own "minister" (my aunt) for our non-legal & they gave us $300 off the package. The wouldn't budge with anything else, but I was happy about that. Also, your outside photographer just has to stay 1 night. (btw, you can book them at the Beach/Caribe for cheaper) they just have to be a "hotel guest" for you to not pay the $300 fee to the onsite photographer. Main difference btwn Palace & Tropical/Colonial 1. Top shelf liquor 2. Unlimited a la cartes + 3 more a la carte options than the Trop/Colon 3. Palace guests can go to/use anything/eat at the Trop/Colo/Beach/Caribe

  13. Yes, you do get cell phone coverage in Playa, BUT here is the catch. Most cell phone companies charge you about $5 a minute You can add on an international package to your cell phone plan & it will reduce the price to about $2 a minute, but they still charge you an arm & a leg. I bought cheap walkie talkies & we are having a centralized meeting place & having our TA request all our rooms in the same building. Hope that helps!

I think it looks perfect for a wedding, but I haven't been there.... Let me know! THANKS!!! It think its worth it for the unlimited a la carte option & the top shelf alcohol, but its purly up to your taste!

I read through this thread and saw that some had used their photographer as well as the in-house photographer. Do they allow outside photographers if you still use the in-house? What is the smallest package offered by the in-house. We're already planning on flying our guy out and putting him up for the trip just so he can do our wedding.... This extra cost is unexpected, but we'll pay it IF they still let us use our guy.... thanks... The no outside vendor thing is an OLD policy.... You CAN bring in anyone you want!!!!!!

One more questions...what outside activites are close to the resort? I am planning on doing my own. I am going to go to Garden Ridge & get the centerpiece glassware (but get the plastic kind instead of glass). They also have a walmart, costso, & Sam's club (walmart & sams is about 20 min north of the resort in Playa del Carmen) There are tons of outside activites, if you are intersted in the touristy ones, look at my website. Also go to Unofficial Barcelo Maya - Index & search for centotes. There is some cool inexpensive stuff there too!
  17. FYI: You don't have to choose or pay for your wedding package until you meet with your wedding coordinator when you get there.

Do you happen to know what the "VIP status and distinguishing wristband" are in the "ocean scents" package? Are most of your guests staying on the Palace side too? If yes, than you will most likely get top shelf booze, if no, than only the guest with Palace wristbands will. The VIP wristband are only for you and your husband & you just get unlimited a la cartes and top shelf booze, but since you are already stayng at the Palace, you get that anyway, so I would go with the Under the Stars if that is your only deciding factor.

If so, does anyone have package details for 2010 yet? Thanks for your help!!! Happy Holidays! I had the same issue, I tried to book in Jan 2008 for my May 2009 wedding & they would't let me book or hold a date until about 10 months out.

Did you feel there was a big difference between the two hotels? Do you have different options for your wedding ceremony and dinner if you stay at the Palace. I think I want my ceremony on the beach and my dinner in one of the outdoor grills. I'd love to see pictures and hear more. Thanks! I thought the biggest difference was Palace (unlimited a la carts, top shelf licquor). Other than that they are pretty much the same!
