  1. Thanks girls--glad you liked the pics! Jayhawkbride-- we got married at the Sheraton Buganvilias in Puerto Vallarta. Loved that place! Our guests are already making plans to go back and stay there. I wrote a really loong wedding review that was in this forum, but I think has been moved out to the wedding reviews area (makes it more difficult to find....let me see if I can post the link here) if you are looking for some input on a location. I can't say enough good things about this place : ) Hope this link works: http://bestdestinationwedding.com/forum/t11734 If you want any other info, just let me know. Good luck!
  2. Horrible!!!! I'm so sorry that they did this to you! I can't believe that they'd even admit their reasons for releasing a verbally (and supposedly contractually on the way) commitment to you. I'm sure they thought that they were going to get more money with more people, so I'd be sure to remind that location--and corporate-- that they are losing you as customers as well as any of us on here who sympathize with you!! Makes me sick that they would do that to you and I'm sorry : (
  3. My vote is for doing it outdoors at the Sheraton--the Las Carretas garden is gorgeous and less than 25 yards from the water--that helps!!! Every tiny bead of sweat will be worth it : ) Plus, the breeze will totally pick up once the sun falls!
  4. Ladies--so nice to receive all of these wonderfully nice compliments after being away ---off the wedding circuit--for a while (although I guess I'm technically still on it since our AHR is in three weeks!). Thanks, girls--glad you enjoyed the pics : ) Judy, I was actually a November bride-- and it was hot enough for during the daytime to want to be in the pool the whole day (I did not, for one second, lay in a chair). But, I will say, when we got married--around 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 3 (so sunset was at 6:20-6:30), it wasn't as bad as I had feared. I believe it was about 87 degrees at that point. You know, the magic of getting married to the perfect person for you kind of makes you forget about any heat or sweat : ). If I had to do one thing differently, I'd go for a less formal dress---I mean, mine was silk taffeta, with the fluffy stuff underneath (can't think of what its called) and then another thick layer of something under that--I mean thick). It was heavy. If I had to do it all over again and only change one thing, I'd go with the Casablanca dress : ). Oh and use the oil blotting papers that I had more! But, in the end, the heat wasn't so bad and everything turned out like a dream!!! Jace, my husband, said he was hot, but.... he was out in the sun for at least an hour before I arrived helping with some last minute detail stuff, but nothing that he really minded (he said). And, when we were near the water, there was a breeze that felt cooling, so I'd say you and your FI will be fine!! Plus, not a single one of our guests or wedding party complained about the heat--only said it was the most beautiful wedding ever! And you'll hear that too : )
  5. That's great information....so, I'll just let things happen as they may and try to get my mother on the same page : ). Thanks for the encouragement girls, I'll definitely wear the dress then!
  6. I think its a great idea! We did one on Sunday and out of the 40 guests that we had, about 30 or so were able to come and really enjoyed it. It gave everyone one last time to be together as a group and time to revel about the night before's activities. We did ours at 11 a.m. so no one had to rush to get there : )
  7. That sounds fun--I wish ours was going to be in the summer, because I love the thought of something outdoorsy and fun, but I didn't want to wait too long after our wedding to do it. I'm just struggling with the thought, I guess of it needing to be too much like a wedding--because we're 100% happy with our wedding in Mexico and I just want this to be like a party....but, my mom and I are having a difference of opinion here....surprise ; ) So, are you doing first dances, and announcements? How about seating arrangements--anything special to keep the wedding party together? Thanks for the help : )
  8. THanks for the suggestion to post in the other spot--just did, so I'm sure I'll get some more helpful info. Carly, thank you for the info on yours--your AHR sounds like it is going to be sooo nice!!! Unfortunately, I spent too much of our money (2/3 of the budget) on the Mexico wedding, because I was planning on having a low-key AHR.....but, my mom had some different ideas in mind... I was planning on wearing my dress for at least part of the time, but perhaps I'll just wear it the whole time--save me some time with looking for a different one... Thanks for all your input and have a great time in Jamaica and at your AHR!!
  9. Hi ladies, I just asked this over in one of the other sections and was directed here--would love to hear your opinions! We're planning for our AHR now and its coming up in Feb. and well, my mom is driving me crazy with questions and details, and so I'm looking for some info on what others have done to either answer her questions or calm her down... can someone point me in the right direction, or....give me details on how yours was--like-- Did you wear your dress the entire time/at all, etc? Did you have your wedding party dress a certain way, sit in a special place (like all together) Did you do any of the first dances (again) Did anyone make any toasts, or read any passages, etc.? Did you have a DJ, photographer, anything else? I was kind of thinking that it would just be a dinner for everyone with music and fun, but I'm finding out that my mom thinks it should be just as nice as our actual wedding....and she's really putting on the pressure. I'll appreciate any info and feedback that you can provide!!! Seriously, I'd love to hear the details from yours or what you are planning. Thanks!
  10. Hi ladies, I'm not sure where to ask this, but since you've been so helpful in the past, I'll bring it here and you can redirect if needed! Is there a separate section on here to discuss the At Home Reception (AHR, or a reception that you have once you return for everyone who couldnt' make it). We're planning for ours now and its coming up in Feb. and well, my mom is driving me crazy with questions and details, and so I'm looking for some info on what others have done to either answer her questions or calm her down... can someone point me in the right direction, or....give me details on how yours was--like-- Did you wear your dress the entire time/at all, etc? Did you have your wedding party dress a certain way, sit in a special place (like all together) Did you do any of the first dances (again) Did anyone make any toasts, or read any passages, etc.? I was kind of thinking that it would just be a dinner for everyone with music and fun, but I'm finding out that my mom thinks it should be just as nice as our actual wedding....and she's really putting on the pressure. I'll appreciate any info, feedback, redirects to another place on here, that you can provide!!! Thanks!
  11. Your date is right around the corner, just noticed that! Best wishes for the wedding of your dreams--can't wait to see your photos. I'm sure everyone will have a wonderful time and you'll look beautiful! Safe travels : )
  12. Hi there, we got married at the Sheraton Buganvilias in Puerto Vallarta, so it was through the hotel on the hotel property and the reception felt very private, and we had a father daughter dance--even had some fireworks (not planned, but went off in the background for someone else). It was very special and totally possible if you were to choose the sheraton (I loved it there and so did our guests) or a similar site where the hotel coordinator could provide details on the site, privacy, etc.
  13. We had a thank you brunch at Mi Querencia restaurant right across from the main portion of the malecon. The food was excellent (many guests went back for dinner) and the view was beautiful (my brother in law commented that it was the best view he had ever had while eating) : ) and, best of all, the prices were amazing!! Almost all of the breakfast and brunch prices are $55 pesos per person, plus drinks. Seriously, it is such a great pick. If you need additional info, let me know and I'll go digging. I even have some photos if you'd like to see a glimpse.....
  14. I asked up front for their (photographer and WC--we didn't have a DJ and used our ipod) meal selections and provided non-alcoholic drinks. About the hotel WC, we counted her in, but she kindly refused and said she could just eat for free from the kitchen, so perhaps offer and see what they say?
  15. Beautiful!!! Love your dress--its my favorite!!!! You look great and your flowers are gorgeous!!
  16. Thanks, everyone!! Best of luck in planning : ) And Happy Holidays--can Friday get here any sooner....
  17. Sounds hectic!! The timeshare people can be difficult, you are right--I wish I realized just how bad they had become nowadays (I hadn't been to PV in about two years) and given my guests more direction on proceeding immediately through to the exit of the airport and not stopping until they get there. That's what's tricky--you think they are the cabs or other airport shuttle people and they'll tell you that they can take you to your hotel, but they totally misrepresent themselves. We got hassled, and I kept walking for a few seconds, but lost my fiance and bridesmaids to them until I realized they weren't behind me--so I had to pull them out of the sales pitches. I speak spanish and so do my immediate family and we were totally fine, but I felt so bad thinking about my in-laws who had never visited before. My only guidance to future visitors is proceed all the way through the airport until you can see the outside through the glass doors, and go to the signs that say taxi. If you go too far, and actually go outside of the airport, you can always go back in and find the taxi stand immediately inside. Just keep walking : )
  18. So nice, thank you! Its an Anjolique dress--style number...912 I believe. It was sooo hot in it....layers of silk taffeta and some other thick winter coat layer underneath... (okay, not really, but my gosh, it was hot). Good luck to you in planning and your big day!!
  19. Here's some shots of the reception area and some of the details (very minimal and simple)--just in case anyone is considering the Sheraton in PV or looking for a place to have their ceremony or reception! The first pictures are from the pier area, where they have that little wooden house where you can stand in front (or in if your wedding party is small enough). And then they have a few options for the reception, but we chose the Las Carretas Garden, which is a little heart shaped garden area that overlooks the ocean. We'll see if I actually know how to post photos.... hls140 - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
  20. Thank you!! I loved thier dresses too--and the way they complemented the ocean scene!! I wanted to pass along the info on the ringbearers' outfits: The shirts: 100% Linen Guayabera Shirt Short Sleeve for Boys: Beach Wedding Shirts | Guayaberas, Linen Pants, Boys Linen Shirts, Mexican Wedding Shirts. The shorts were ralph lauren from macy's The shoes....stride rite angler...shoebuy.com HTH--let me know if you have any other questions!
  21. Thanks so much!!! I love their dresses too--I really like how the green went so well with the ocean scene. I wanted to pass along the info on the ringbearers' gear from my sis: The shirts: 100% Linen Guayabera Shirt Short Sleeve for Boys: Beach Wedding Shirts | Guayaberas, Linen Pants, Boys Linen Shirts, Mexican Wedding Shirts. the shorts were ralph lauren from macy's shoes....stride rite angler...shoebuy.com HTH!
  22. Thank you!!! As for the flowers--you know, I'm not really sure. Fernanda, the Sheraton coordinator got them from a local PV florist--I just asked for bright tropical flowers. I can send you some photos of them if you want to pass on to your florist--just let me know!!
  23. Thanks everyone!! I'm checking with my sisters on where they got the guayabera shirts--I know the shorts are little polo khakis, but I'll see where they got them. I've got two older sisters with two boys a piece--I'm sure you can believe that out of 25-30 photos of them I don't have one where they are ALL looking at the camera and SMILING at the same time!!! Too much to see and do : ) I'll let you know what I hear about their outfits....
  24. Hi there--thanks! We started the ceremony at 5:30, but both sets of the wedding party got photos before. So, the guys started at around 4:45, then the ladies just before the ceremony in a private area at around 5:10. Immediately after the ceremony at 6 p.m., the whole wedding party was wisked away for more shots which we finished with family shots at around 6:30-ish, during the cocktail hour (we had mariachis so hopefully the others enjoyed themselves while we were gone). I'm thinking these photos are almost all from the timeframe of before or immediately after the wedding. We have alot of sunset photos with pink and orange skies that quickly move into "night" shots--the sun falls quickly once its on its way!
