I'll give you a brief review on those properties: (Sorry if they're a bit blunt. I think I've been somewhat spoiled in the past, so that definitely sways my vote.) Tucan/Quetzal: Nice, cool scenery but it just wasn't for us. There were kids EVERYWHERE! The rooms were "ok" definitely nothing fabulous, there were a few holes in the wall and it looks like it needs a renovation. If you can get one of the beach front rooms on the 2nd or 3rd level I think it would be worth the extra money! Pools were great, beach was fantastic but crowded. Oh yeah, hard beds (they're 6 inches of mattress on a concrete slab). We slept fine tho. We didn't end up meeting with a WC there because we knew after walking the property that it wasn't the place for our wedding. I bet it'd be better during other times of the year where it's less crowded, and a little less of the "Walmart" crowd (as Martin says, lol) is there. So I worked my magic and got us bumped up to... Maya/Lindo: We actually got to stay on the Maya side which was awesome! The rooms were beautiful! I'd say they're the 2nd nicest rooms I've stayed in yet. (Rooms are important to me) When we met with the WC there (Luz) I had her show me a room on the Lindo side and those were pretty nice as well. I don't think anyone would be complaining about the rooms there at all. Btw, I didn't feel completely comfortable with the WC. She seemed a little meek and timid to me. She showed us pics of weddings they had there in the past and there were plastic boats in almost every pic!!!! This is what REALLY deterred us. They said they can't move them out of the way because it's a business or something. She said you just had to "tell your photographer to shoot from better angles". Honestly, I don't want my photographer to have to try that hard!! The price to bring in a photog. is only $300 vs. some of the other resorts' $500. Or, of course if they stay one or two nights it's free. The pools were great - it was like Wet n' Wild at a really nice tropical resort. They had tons of pools, plus a wavepool, plus a lazy river! The wildlife and fauna there was awesome. EXCEPT when you walk to the beach (this would be your "walk down the aisle") - the mangroves there have been devastated by the hurricane, which leaves for a HORRIBLE backdrop for your wedding pics!!!! This was the second thing that really did it for us there. The third thing was this resort is HUUUUUUUGE!!!! Seriously, it's like 3 or 4 football fields long just to walk from the lobby to the beach. Ridiculous! You'll definitely get a work out, but it's so big that you tend to get lost and really have to plan your activities out. Since we were sick while down there it was kind of annoying to us. The lobby bar is great, that's the only place where you'll find international liquors. The scenery all around the complex is fantastic! Really unique and cool to look at. We really liked the Japanese restaurant. You can only eat there if you're staying on the Maya side. The gourmet restaurant on the Maya side was also nice (that's where he proposed!). The buffets were just ok. Also, there's a shopping mall on site! It's just crazy how big not only the Maya/ Lindo but the entire complex that includes Beach/Del Mar is. They have a carousel, restaurants, stores, spa, etc there. There is also a golf course on site. Haha, ok so maybe that wasn't such a "brief" review, but there ya go! I also have the wedding package info from the Maya/Lindo. Basically it's around $1,750 for the legal ceremony package. I apologize for taking so long to post this review! I'll add pics to this thread later. Let me know if you have any more questions, Jaime

Dreams PV ~ New Wedding Coordinator
JaimeLynne replied to TammyWright's topic in Puerto Vallarta Accommodations & Site
I got this letter a couple days ago from Mariana at Dreams (took her about 3 days to respond, not too bad). I think this is just one of those letters where you fill in the person's name tho, because in my original email to her I had already acknowledged that I knew Gabriela was the new WC, and I only said we were *considering/thinking about* having our wedding there. She sent me several attachments with it as well. Dear Jaime: First of all I would like to thank you for choosing Dreams Puerto Vallarta to celebrate this important event, you could be sure that we will do our best to exceed your expectations and make this experience a dream. I would like to inform you that Gabriela will be the new wedding coordinator since I have been promoted, at the moment she is not here yet but I will love to help you in the mean time with all your questions on doubts. Please find attached some information that might be helpful, if you should require further assistance do not hesitate in contacting me, will be a pleasure to help you. Best Regards Marilú Arellano Fuentes Q. -

I have been going through a TA. Only $100 more for almost double the time there?? That's awesome. Btw, I see you live in Irving - do you use a local TA?

I agree - say something. The worst she can say is it'll be another $500. If that were the case then you'd have to decide how much it is worth it to you. Unless it was included in part of the original package that YOU get to pick the songs. If that's the case, you should definitely get to do just that without having to pay for it!

Good to know. I'd just like to add that not only is it great to have this site, but to have a knowledgeable and helpful TA hosting it is so unique and helpful in the planning process! Tammy, you rock! Quote: Originally Posted by Nini_Bride Jaime, Are you thinking of moving your wedding up to Christmas/New Years?? I still haven't felt the parents out on that yet tho. If it weren't for the kids we'd pretty much be open to any time of the year which would just add one more freaking choice so at this point I'm fine with kids because it helps to narrow something down! LOL The main reason we've started to consider Xmas vacation is due to Summer weather concerns in PV and Cancun. I think we've at least narrowed it down to 3 areas: PV, Cancun, Cabo We're pretty much looking into Dreams in all 3 areas, plus Playa Fiesta in PV. Playa Fiesta would be our #1 choice for our "Dream Wedding" but unfortunately I just don't think we'll come near to the 18 room block (36+ ppl) necessary for the wedding package Bummed on this but I think Dreams PV is our second choice and it looks very nice Quote: Originally Posted by akh I think the cheapest rate we got was $106/person/night with the $50 spa credit. Cool thanks for the pic Ann! How come you didn't end up getting a room block? -
Hi and welcome to the forum! We are considering having our wedding at Dreams PV - any extra info you can spare would be great! Have you had a chance to communicate with the new WC there? (I think her name is Gabriela...) From what I hear she's only been on about a week.

I asked Martin and he said he couldn't think of any metal love songs. He was like "isn't that like an oxymoron...??" lol sorry -
Do you get a break on the room prices if you have your wedding there?

Do you know if the prices would skyrocket in December or January, possibly over New Year's? I'm assuming they would, just trying to weigh some options. -

I know one couple is paying 1500 for 4 nights and airfare, so based on the cost of flights from here, I would say they're paying about 450 pp finding a location SUCKS! I wanted to rip my hair out, its so much better when you're done with it! Actually that did help, thanks! And yes it is VERY FRUSTRATING trying to find a location out of the MILLION or so out there. I swear, I'm going to have gray hair by my 25th birthday if I'm not careful...either that, or I'll be bald

A) What month are you getting married How much are your guests paying for their hotel stay (please include how many nights this includes, or just a per night price would be great!) I'm having such a hard time trying to decide between locations!!! And now I'm thinking of doing it in December/January instead of June/July. These decisions are already driving me nuts! Thanks in advance for your responses!!!!!

Yeah I know, but I'm not going to push the issue. I believe he is an EXCELLENT doctor and this really was just some weird fluke! I would rather just let it go at this point and be glad to know what's what. As long as I get better I'm fine with it all. Things happen. -
