  1. Hi Melissa, Thanks for giving me a heads up on this! Does anyone have any ideas as to how I go about fixing the lack of flow problem? I'm a little lost here. We're only having about 12 guests, so the private reception won't be an issue for us. Thanks for any help/insight anyone may be able to provide! Shelley
  2. Hey, has anyone happened to see pictures of what kind of bouquet the Riu provides to bridesmaids? I assume that I'll get some input into the type of flowers and the colors, but I'd like to see a pic for an idea of the quality. I'm trying to figure out if it's easier to buy my bridesmaids bouquets through the resort, buying flowers from somewhere else and making our own bouquets, or bringing silk flowers down with us.
  3. The one I quickly steered away from was Buy Direct Bridals. I e-mailed the seller and got a reply, but when I asked a further question I got the identical reply. So the communication level is definitely not good. I then went and reviewed the seller's feedback and noticed far too many brides warning that they paid but never received their dress - which obviously is a risk I want to avoid. The seller I'm now thinking of buying from is elegant fashion outlet. They are so quick to respond, and very helpful (though they won't mark the dress as a gift to save on customs). They have had no negative reviews which was a comfort. Also, I was interested in some Alfred Angelo bridesmaid dresses that aren't listed in their store but they still provided me with quick price quotes and advised me that they can get any Alfred Angelo dresses as they're an authorized dealer. Those are the only 2 I've really dealt with so far on eBay. Shelley
  4. Thanks for all the reassurances guys! I've bought a lot of things off eBay before, but just never anything as big/important to me as a wedding dress so that's why I'm a little nervous. It'll save enough money that I think it's worth it. I've gone through the feedback posts and with the exception of one seller who had far too many brides claiming they never got their dress, the others sounded safe. Wish me luck!
  5. Hi everyone, I have picked my dress, and am now in the process of trying to find the cheapest place to get it. So far it seems like the cheapest has been through an eBay store - has anyone either purchased their wedding dress through eBay or known of anyone else who has Also, I'm in Canada so I'm not sure if I'll end up saving much after customs - does anyone know what customs would be for a dress that costs around $500? Thanks for any help anyone can provide!
  6. Hi Margaret, I've booked at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya and I didn't really worry about picking the extras. My impression has been that when you meet with your WC when you get down there you can work all those details out. However, there isn't really any extras that I felt like I had to have or that needed to be booked beforehand, so that may have led to my lack of concern. Hope this has helped! Shelley
  7. Thanks Sarah, now I can get busy trying to find ideas I like online to download! The help is much appreciated
  8. Thanks Sarah! That does help a bunch. So I guess I just keep on e-mailing her until I get the things arranged that I want. For the cake for example, did you e-mail her pictures of ideas you liked? Just trying to figure out how the best way to go about this successfully is... Thanks to you now I have a much clearer to-do list! Thank you so much for the guidance - much appreciated!!!!!
  9. Congrats Sarah! Your wedding isn't too far away at all now! Can you shed some light on one of my questions? Just wondering what arrangements you have made thus far with the wedding planner other than the package/date/time? Have you picked where your reception will be held? Just trying to figure out what we need to plan before we get there and what waits for that first meeting. Thanks!
  10. Congratulations! That is definately a relieving e-mail to receive! Aimee, I've e-mailed the wc as well to ask a few questions regarding the reception and haven't heard back yet. Oh well, I am going to trust others that it will all work out. From reading other posts on this threat, I think we just have to be patient in awaiting a response.
  11. Okay, so I finally got confirmation from Riu to book our wedding! Phew, one thing off my list of things to stress about! Aimee, I'm in the same boat as you now - I am not sure what else I have to arrange with the WC before we go down there. I get the feeling that most details are actually worked out when we get there, but am I missing anything?
  12. Thanks everyone. I think I will use the safe for our bands, and then also tip the cleaning staff. I just can't imagine not having our rings for the ceremony - I think it would feel like something was missing if we didn't have them. Thanks again!
  13. Hi, I'm getting married in the Mayan Riviera this August, and I've had a couple guests say things to me such as "you're not bringing your ring are you?" Is this something I should be concerned about? I had wanted to have our bands for the ceremony, but am not sure now if this is an unsafe move. Can anyone help?

You can pm me if you want me to send the links to you. ~ Monika Hi Monika I would love it if you could send me some pics from the photographer at the Riu Palace Riviera Maya so I can get an idea of what to expect. Thanks!
  15. Hi, I just joined this site and already really appreciate all the information posted from other Riu brides out there. I'm getting married at the Riu Palace Mayan Riviera in August 2007 (assume I ever hear back from the wc...). Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions on dresses for a ceremony in the gazebo? I love satin, but I have heard that satin just isn't right for the beach. Thoughts? Also, has anyone ever been to Mexico in August? (both my fiance and I have NEVER been!!!) Do I need to wear a very light dress to prevent sweating to death? Thanks for any help anyone can provide. I'm feeling a little overwhelmed!

    Hi everyone!

I just discovered this wonderful website! I took a look around and am already feeling so relieved to have others dealing with the same issues I am. I'm planning on getting married at the Riu Palace Mayan Riviera - I say planning because I still have not heard back from the wedding co-ordinator. Now I've read that others have had this problem so I'm a little less stressed about that. I look forward to being a part of this forum!
