  1. Interesting thread Alyssa, thanks for starting it.

So far we aren't really affected, but I do think about it a lot and we try to cut spending where we can (but we live fairly frugally). Husband works in politics -- and it's an election year so his job is safe. I work in a nonprofit that isn't going anywhere. And we don't drive often enough to feel the gas crunch.

I do feel like we should we saving more, spending less, just in case, ya know?

Oh, and we are trying to refi our house even though it's only been 6 months cause rates are down quite a bit.

  2. Oh this definitely is a topic on my brain because we are going to the in-laws house this weekend. But I am the dummy who made it an issue!

See...I had a little too much to drink at my wedding, and APPARENTLY went up to my in-laws and was like, OMG can I call you mom and dad now? (You know, I was a very happy drunk that night). So now I kinda HAVE to call them that, right? But it's been 1.5 yrs and it still feels WEIRD. Not bad weird, just weird. How embarrassing. I hope that one day in like 5 yrs it's not weird anymore and I just call them mom and dad without blinking an eye. What's the big deal, right?

  3. great post idea, Ann! We also kinda accidentally got a Wii last week too! A friend picked one up at Target just to resell but offered it to us first. So far we have only played sports and we got Guitar Hero 3. I want to get the Mario one, but now I am all confused because how many are there? I am so bad I want something simple...

  4. I agree that you should have your own agent who represents YOUR interests. Think about it -- the higher the sales price, the more money the selling agent makes. So it is in HER interest to have a high sales price. How does that help you?

  5. I'm not an expert, but I think that paying ALL of your bills on time, every months, for years on end, will have more of an effect on your credit score than if you have 40K available credit versus $50K. Why not pare down to about half as many cards, and you'll still have plenty of long-standing relationship ones for your credit score. I know I might be going against the grain, but I just don't think it will make or break your credit worthiness in the future.
