  1. I think we invited roughly 100-110 people and we have 30 coming. My travel agent predicted all along we would have 30 (or roughly 1/3), she said people always are excited but plans change and many people end up not making it. I think with planning a destination wedding there is always a risk some people you had hoped could be there won't make it, but at the end of the day, this is a different type of experience and if I wanted a wedding with 200 people I would have planned it at home. All that truly matters is that I'm marrying my best friend and so long as we both show up, the rest is all a bonus as far as I'm concerned! Of course my head was ready to explode when we were up to the last day to book back in the spring and my Dad and brother still hadn't booked, but it all worked out and they got themselves booked in time after all. No wedding is stress free!
  2. Hi ladies, I know this has been asked and posted before and I should have printed it off when I saw it a few months ago. I've searched this thread and I can't find that good packing list that details what to pack in each bag. If anyone knows which detailed list I'm talking about, can you please repost? Thanks!!!
  3. We're using Flirt Photography from Toronto (GTA), but I'm lucking because she's also a friend/guest.
  4. I checked a few weather/tourism sites and they generally all agree that the daily high temperature is 29-30C and the low is around 21-23C in January. This site gives a lot of details: http://weatherspark.com/averages/32527/1/Montego-Bay-St-James-Parish-Jamaica I also found these comments on other sites: "Jamaica in January still offers temperatures that are warm and balmy, and the winter season means dry days and nights on this island, making it one of the best times of the year to visit, especially if you are visiting from the north. It is perhaps because of the fine weather that so many travelers choose January as the perfect time to visit Jamaica." "Lying on the north coast of the island, Montego Bay sees slightly higher rainfall annually than parts of the south coast- which are shadowed from rain by the island mountains. Most of the years rainfall will come during May to October, and the driest time of the year will from January to March- making this the most ideal time to visit."
  5. Well this is not good news, especially considering I'm planning the exact same thing one week later! They told me about the minimum 50 people requirement, but I've also since learned that there is a $32/person option if you have a beach buffet dinner. They've never given me any indication that it would be too cold for a tent reception in January. I've also been in touch with Floral Fantasy and Conrad at Cover me Up Rentals and no one has indicated at any time that it should be something to reconsider.

  7. We got our hotel and flight package through a travel agent in Calgary. They got us a package through Sunquest with Westjet flights. I've had my ups and downs with them but in the end I think it's a decent rate. We initially waited to go to Jamaica until January as I really wanted direct flights and was told the direct flights are only in effect from Christmas - April. Then after everyone had paid their deposits they said all direct flights from Calgary were cancelled and we had to take connecting flights through Toronto. So now we are taking the red-eye out of Calgary and connect in the morning in Toronto. It's definitely not ideal.
  8. Hi, I'm planning my dinner and reception on the beach at the Suites. My wedding is exactly 2 months away. There are extra charges, including the dinner itself. I'm also renting an open air tent with lantern lighting, dance floor, etc.... but I also didn't envision my dinner in a restaurant followed by the disco. We might end up at the disco at the end of the night, but I wanted something more private. Just be prepared for lots of extra costs if you go the beach reception route. It's also taking me way more time to plan out than I had anticipated, but I'm sure it will all be worth it. I don't think cocktail hour is mandatory, but if you do have one, there is a charge for them to set up and serve. I personally don't see a big issue with that, if you are getting a dedicated bar and servers. I look at it as a charge for the service rather than the alcohol itself.
  9. Just FYI for everyone out there poking around the dollar stores, I was at Dollar Tree in Kalispell, Montana this weekend, then came home to Calgary and learned that Dollar Tree has recently bought out Dollar Giant up here. So some of the stuff you hear about at Dollar Tree is now showing up at the Dollar Giant stores in Canada. Apparently they are working on a whole re-branding for these stores.
  10. Hi Shauna, can you send me the activities list by message as well? I don't have enough posts to open the attachments. thx!
  11. Hi Jaclyn, did Tai Flora give you any pricing for items to rent for a reception on the beach? Tent, dance floor, drapery, lighting.... Thanks!
