Tnt2015's Planning Thread - Excellence Riviera Cancun 12.12.15

Recommended Posts

I'm so excited to finally do a planning thread! I keep up with a bunch of them and have learned a ton from you ladies. I can't believe we've been engaged for six months already!

Our Story

We met in college through mutual friends. We were just friends for a while (I was actually constantly trying to get him to date friends of mine!) and finally started dating in December 2009. In our 5 years of dating we have done a ton of awesome stuff together, but my favorite so far has been getting into mud runs last year. We've done 3 so far (Warrior Dash, Savage Race, and Spartan Race) with plans to do more.

His parents came up for Christmas. The day after Christmas he suggested showing them the park where we train (it has a practice obstacle course, rock climbing wall, & water tower). When we got to the top of the water tower, he proposed!!! He proposed with the ring that both his grandfather and father proposed with, which is super awesome  :)

Destination Wedding

We went to a DW in the Dominican Republic and loved it, so we looked into it and it will potentially cost less for us and our guests including multiple days of events (our families and friends are spread out across the country so matter where we picked, at least half of our guests were going to have to travel).  We put together a checklist and after about three weeks of back and forth, decided on Excellence Riviera Cancun.

We're getting married the day after our 6 year anniversary. My FFIL is a reverend and will be the officiant for the wedding (he'll do a legal ceremony before we depart)! So far we have 19 people with reserved rooms, but are expecting closer to 30. Our deadline w/ our travel agent isn't until September.

@@Wafflesmom @@acw271011 Thank You!

Colors

Our colors are navy and white, with yellow and aqua(?) accents. This picture was my inspiration.

Save the Dates

For the Save the Dates, I recreated a postcard design from Etsy. I used VistaPrint to print them and they came out great.

Invitations

I recreated a design from Minted with a few changes, and printed them on postcard sized paper that matched the cards & pockets specs. I used Cards & Pockets for the pocket folds and the yellow mat. Everything was secured with glue dots. The inserts were printed on rack cards that I had cut to size at Staples. For the envelopes, I created a mail merge design and printed them at home.

They only needed $0.70 stamps, which is awesome because they felt heavy.

Love your invites! They look amazing  :)

We just did electronic save the dates and no paper invites because we were being uber practical / trying to save money, but I'm so jealous of couples like you that did gorgeous paper invites. I'm sure your guests loved them!

@@krystalball Thank You! In hindsight I probably would have skipped the save the dates just to save more money but I did everything myself and am okay with what I paid.

In total it was $80 for the save the dates and $250 for the invitations including all stamps and buying the domain name for our website to RSVP. The pockets & mats were a huge cost so I could have saved more by making those myself.

Congratulations! Love planning threads...i can't believe how creative everyone is! I am awful at anything creative but luckily as only 2 of us no need for invites etc.

Love your colour scheme as well!

I would have loved to marry there but just out of my budget this time around. We had planned it there a few years ago but had to cancel. They were fab at the planning stages and soo understanding over the cancellation.

Bridesmaids

I asked 3 close friends from college to be my bridesmaids. One of them is actually the person that introduced me to my FI. I bought a card from WeddingAffections on Etsy and wrote a poem in it.

They'll be wearing navy dresses from Alfred Angelo. This is a terrible picture from their website but it looks really good in person. The top of the dress is strapless with a sheer overlay. They can wear any (flat) shoes they want that are white, ivory, or yellow. I want to get them jewelry as a gift, maybe earrings and a bracelet.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
