I've seen lots of posts about COST of alterations, but I'm wondering WHEN to get your alterations done.

My wedding is in April 2016.  My dress is already in.  I called my alterations lady to get an appt set up for this weekend and she said "ALREADY??? (she doesn't speak English very well, haha) You very organized, very soon"   Sooooo does that mean it's too soon to start alterations? I'm also kind of afraid if I do it now, and gain or lose weight, I'll be screwed...it's a tie up/corset type, so it should be okay.

But anyways, WHEN do you plan on getting alterations done?

Thanks!

I wouldn't go now. Your body might change between now and then as it is a year away. I would say 2 months before your wedding date? My wedding is Feb 2016 and I plan to go for my final fitting in November as I tend to put on a few pounds over Christmas lol and then lose it again in a months time. You know yourself though... Wait if you plan on shaping your body for your big day! Hope this helps :)

I would ask them what they suggest.  It depends on the turn around with their work as well.  I would suggest 2-3 months before your wedding.  Because your dress is a corset it gives you a bit of flexibility.

My wedding is in june and my alterations are next week...he he, I'm probably one of the delinquent brides!  :)

Thanks guys! It probably is a bit early. I'm planning on maintaining my weight as it is now, but don't want to screw myself over by having to get alterations done twice because I've gained or lost weight unintentionally, haha.

I'll give her a call this weekend and see what she suggests! Thank you!

@KatyMcBride - As others have mentioned, traditionally alteration start a few months before the wedding. Even if you'll be maintaining you weight, which is great!, you could change your mind about shoes, etc. For how expensive alterations are, you don't want to run the risk of having to do them twice. There's no hurry to getting them done. :)

I agree. 2-3 months before is standard. If you did it now and something did change you'd have to pay twice and it's way too pricey for that!!

You could do weights and tone up even with maintaining weight which could make your dress big. Another poster mentioned you may change your mind on shoes or what have you.

A year is a long time and i'd suggest waiting :)

Thanks guys! I'm glad I asked instead of going too early.  I'm cheap and there's no way I'm paying twice for alterations, lol.

I would wait 2-3 months for alterations. I think they usually recommend two dress fittings so you are good! :)
