@@calgarybride2015 Hahaha too funny. Actually the original plan was to go to Belize, but it was too tough to get to from Cancun (go figure - since it's practically next door).

You gotta take a bus :)

We had planned to see Shawn's cousin in Merida. Then spend Some time in Cancun and then Belize by bus. At the end I just think it would have blown our budget then his cousin kinda fell thru/took to long to confirm so we picked Cuba.

@vancouverpetunia  Oh I LOVE the rings!! They're gorgeous! Well - can you say gorgeous about a guy's ring? Guess not... so yours is gorgeous and his is very nice and masculine! But I love them both! lol

You so absolutely have to review Costa Rica please!! I can not wait to get there. It's on our retirement list. So is Belize. Third is Panama. Doug says we're going to start the scouting trips next year but that may get delayed a bit. I'm trying to convince him to go to the Gran Bahia in Mexico in April and meet up with family from the UK but we'll have to see... lol But I would really love to hear about what you think about the country and since you're going to be in the interior, what you thought of it. We don't want to be right on the beach because the heat is too high.

I agree with @calgarybride2015  It's fun listening to everyone be excited about the trip. Enjoy it! It's so good to have the support!

Good on the new TA that it's working out so far! Fingers crossed it stays that way!!

@@calgarybride2015 - Yeah, a bus AND a boat! We figured it would take a good 8 - 10 hours to get to our destination. With only 7 days, that seemed like a waste. Although, now that I think about it - from the time we have to leave for the airport in Cancun to the time we will finally get to our resort in CR, it's probably 8 - 10 hours. <insert laugh/cry here> Oh well, I'm super stoked about CR. As soon as that became an option, Jeff said that I seemed way more excited than I ever did about Belize, so there's something to be said about that.

@@acw271011 - I have fantasies about retiring somewhere tropical. Preferably at age 45 LOL (which is about 3 years away). I will definitely let you ladies know what we think of CR. I've heard nothing but good things. We've been to Mexico so many times now that I'd really like to explore other areas. But we do love Mexico, so it's tough. I wanted our next trip to be non all-inclusive, and then we booked the wedding. Haha. And it comes with 2 free nights on our 1st anniversary, so AI again (if we decide to use that). At least we could use that in the Dominican, as we could use it at any NOW resort. That might be a good compromise.

@calgarybride - BTW, your mention of Merida reminded me of a conversation from dinner the other night. Jeff's uncle has a place in Merida and lives there for half the year. But.... Jeff didn't want to invite him to the wedding, so we didn't. They're not exactly close - we've been together almost 5 years and I've never met the guy. Apparently he was all prepared to show up until he found out from Jeff's mom that our wedding is 7 days after he leaves. Hahaha

CR will be awesome! I totally feel you on the non AI. Shawn's more a 'back packer' so doing Merida and such was a compromise. I'd love to go your Asia or Europe or wherever but with kids you can appreciate that struggle. We can generally get a week but it's tough to do those that quickly. Well unless they come but we'd have to save for awhile lol. That's my advice to you ladies - do some of those bigger ones before kids.

Hahaha about his uncle! I guess that worked out

Hey ladies - Just wanted to give a quick update, although it's pretty quiet for us on the wedding front. Which is a good thing, because work is nuts and the holiday season always makes life busier.

Guests

Our final payment deadline has come and gone (Dec 4) and everyone has paid! We did have one person drop out - half of a couple who recently broke up, so now the guy is coming on his own. Just as well - we and everyone in that circle of friends could not stand the girlfriend, so we're glad she's not coming, as horrible as that may be to say. Our count right now is 36 adults + 5 kids + us. There are a few more people who say they may still book, and they might, but I think max another 2. Not holding my breath and I'm fine with it either way. Really happy that we had absolutely no drama around the final payments!

Bridesmaid Dresses

My best friend received hers a few weeks ago (I still don't know if she's tried it on or if it fits!) and my sister finally placed her order, so hopefully we are all set in that dept. My sister got the Kelsey & my BF got the Mikaela.

My Dress
I finally decided to have my dress custom made. I have a dress I bought last spring, but after buying it, I wasn't really happy with it and couldn't stop thinking about a dress I had seen on Etsy. But... the dress on Etsy was from China, which made me nervous. So I ended up finding a local Etsy seller who specializes in bridal wear and will do custom orders. I met with her on Monday and placed the order for my dress. It's weird to place so much blind faith in one person. I'm just hoping I will see the dress I've been dreaming about when it is ready in Jan/Feb. Crazy. Below is the original Etsy dress. Below that is the lace I chose from the dressmaker (but it won't have the beading and will obviously look different when applied to my dress style). Fingers crossed. I'm a bit freaked out.

Glad everything went down without a hitch! We had it thru final payments too :)

You have a good number!

Love the girls dresses!

I think the dress you've chosen is gorgeous. And the lace will look just fantastic. Please post a pick when you have one!!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
