Tinkersofi's Planning Thread - Azul Fives August 13, 2015

Aww your brochures are so cute! I've made a list of all the design stuff I have left to do but have been slacking because I don't want to think about layout & fonts when I do it all day at work. The owls are adorable!!

Did you get the resort map picture from the resort?

@@TinkerSofi The brochure looks fantastic and the props are so cute! Your guests will love them!

As for the communication with the photographer I didn't go over too many specifics of shots but I did send him my list of groupings for family and friends. I listed every shot I could think of that was important to us to have (ie. bride, groom, parents, siblings or bride, groom, maid of honour, best man etc. etc.). I then listed it from most important to least important so that if we run short of time he knows which shots he should really try and get before time runs out. I'm also delegating someone to organize the group photos. I've done this for a lot of my friend's weddings, I would essentially do this when I worked in production so I became the "go-to" person for this job. I find that the reason wedding photos often run over is because even though you may be organized with a shot list, you end up spending so much time running around trying to find these people. So the person who is in charge of this will have the shot list get the people who need to be in the photo and then while they are taking their picture, they will get the next group ready on deck so on and so forth until you make it through your list. When I did this the last time for a friend's wedding, they finished early and had a ton of time to take their bride/groom photos and then ended up finishing 20 min before the reception was even supposed to begin….that's until we were taking the last photo of the rings and one of them slipped off my friend's finger went right through the crack of a deck….but that's a whole other story lol! Good news is that we retrieved it after fashioning some ribbon to a coat hanger!

Same. We were done before schedule because it became such an oiled machine. My MC (brother in law) was right on top of it. Best decision ever to have someone in charge.

@@calgarybride2015 thanks. That really helps. I think it will be good to have a list of the "must haves". we already talked about when to pay the rest of our balance, but I think I definitely need to get a better idea of the timeline, etc.

@@snswedding2016 that's a good idea, I know @@calgarybride2015 did that and it was so efficient! There's not a lot of us so it will be easier to get people together.

PS: I couldn't even imagine losing one of the rings under a deck! Eeep!

@@TNT2015 I got the picture from the hotel's website. I think my MOH tweaked it a bit when helping me with the brochure, but you can easily download it from the website.

ahhh you are 30 days away!  I am almost 30 days since my wedding!!  crazy how time flies by.

I saw that you were asking about communication with your photographer.  Ours was excellent...and he kept asking us for a list of the shots that we wanted.  I thought that it wasn't necessary because we are not a big group and people would stick around for shots.  It was impossible to get a group shot as it was soooo hot that people were leaving to change between ceremony and reception and I didn't get invidividual shots with my bridesmaids which I do regret.  So definitely make a list even if it seems silly and obvious because if it's on paper you won't forget especially when you are deliriously hot and just want to be done with pictures.

awesome! I agree that I think a list would really help to get things going. Juan still has to ask one of his friends to be MC, so then he needs to be calling people to make sure we take a picture with them. We have to sit down this weekend and make a list of the "must-have" shots.

OMG! 30 days. I seriously still haven't quite grasped the idea that we're getting married and that the day is basically here hahah.

My bridal shower is this weekend, and I'm pretty excited for it. I've never been to a bridal shower and I feel kinda bad about taking so much of people's time haha. You can tell that I'm not used to being the center of attention :P. Once again, people haven't RSVP'd. Only my close friends who have been no trouble at all during the wedding planning are coming for sure. I seriously didn't expect anything else given all the wedding trips shenanigans haha. It'll be fun though because the girls that mean the most to me will be here and we'll have a blast like we usually do :).

Some of the to do list:

- Rings have been sent to get cleaned

- Wedding has been paid (yay for that!)

- I have to pick a reading for the legal ceremony out of 3 that I have shortlisted

- get marriage license. Our goal is getting that done this week

- e-mail the photographer with some more info about the kinds of pictures I like and the timeline

- work on a list of "must-have" shots with people

- Ask our potential MC if he actually wants the job haha

- Guess what!? The bridesmaid's jewelry was out to be delivered today. What a huge sigh.

- The bridal necklace now says that it was left the BC sorting facility, let's just hope that it's to Calgary and not back to Australia where it came from hahah

- Print wedding day timeline for bridal party

-  Finalize party playlist with MOH

- Send group e-mail two weeks out with a few announcements and telling guests to expect a slow check in, etc.

I think that's pretty much everything left to do. I want to make a t-shirt for Juan to wear on the plane haha. The girls made some tank tops for us for our Vegas trip and I was thinking of wearing it again on the way to Mexico, so it would be nice if Juan has his own too :). I know it's corny, but so much fun haha.

Groom Gift

I've been thinking about a gift for Juan. He's not big on watches so that idea is out the window. I was thinking of engraving his ring on the inside. I have it, because my job is to keep all these things together and packing them :P, so it would just be a matter of sending it to get engraved. He's so bad with dates that having our wedding date on there would be nice I think.

That's a cute idea!!  My gift to my husband was adding a Sapphire to his band...I realized after I did this though that he would think he wasn't getting a gift ( until he would see his ring up at the alter and he actually got the ring)...so hubster got double lucky and I wrote him a card and gifted him a wallet by his favourite designer Ted Baker.  I didn't think about the whole dynamics until after and I didn't want him to think I didn't get him a gift especially since I was the one that was introducing this idea and tradition.  haha   oh boy looking back...lol

@@TinkerSofi

Awe the ring engraving is a super cute idea. I think he'll love it and like you said it'll make it easy for him to remember your date. That way there will be no excuses if he forgets an anniversary haha.

Good luck with your bridal shower! Thats so exciting! I remember planning my sisters 3 years ago and it was so much fun to get everyone together before the trip.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
