Tinkersofi's Planning Thread - Azul Fives August 13, 2015

Recommended Posts

@@TinkerSofi I just did a search of your forum in case I missed it but couldn't find anything...

Last night I sent our '2.5 weeks prior to fake deadline' email to all our guests. We only have 12 booked and we are two of the 12 lol I assume you sent reminder emails out too? I searched for ideas on here, found a few, stole bits and pieces and wrote my own. Since the email 5 (of the 12 total) people have booked and 7 others emailed letting me know when they would be booking. Any tips or tricks for me? If you have your email and are comfortable sharing I'd love to see them.

Plan is to send one email out a week prior to fake deadline and a final email two days before.

Here are the old responses I had typed up before leaving for the mall:

Ah.. I can't believe how close you are getting to the big day. Really excited for you!

I know what you mean about the stress of depending on those bookings for your perks. We have the same stress with our Palace booking as well.. i'm just hoping that it all goes smoothly. Hoping for the best for you and Juan!

Can't wait to see your hangers :) I attempted them myself, I did one and realized that i'm too much of a perfectionist and couldn't deal with it any more lol. Every time I made one I thought it looked terrible.. It definitely takes a lot of patience!

I know! I keep looking at this ticker and I keep stuffing my face with food. Whoever said that you lose weight when you get close to the wedding was obviously lying. I can't stop eating I'm so anxious, and I have a dress that I need to fit into in a month!

As you can see I didn't make the wire ones because I really don't think I've got the talent. I know there's plenty of tutorials out there but I don't think they would have turned out too well so I saved myself the frustration :P

I hope I am half as organized as you!! :)

I'm really not all that organized but I am a type A personality, thanks to my dad, and a bit of a perfectionist. My plan was originally to be done with all the planning at 3 months before the wedding so I could just chill. Obviously that didn't happen but I feel like I got pretty close to it :). Most of my stress now is coming from the fact that payments for the trips and the wedding are due and I just want to finalize numbers to give to the hotel and know how much we owe for sure. Again, the type A personality coming out right there haha, I don't like estimates, only real numbers haha.

@@TinkerSofi I can't wait to see your hangers too! It looks like you're all set to go and have everything lined up!  :)  I know what you mean about worrying about final payments. It's like that initial stress of everyone putting down deposits comes back to haunt us. lol - ok maybe I'm being a bit dramatic! ;)  A friend of mine keeps saying to me "you know a lot of people are going to cancel right? Half of the list from my friend's daughter's wedding cancelled when it came time to the final payment..." every time I just look at him and I'm like "Really?!? Why would you say that to me??" so I end up just telling him that if it ends up being just me and Sean on the beach I'll be happy...everything else is a bonus! I mean of course I want everyone to be there but saying that usually shuts him up pretty quickly! ha!

It is totally like the first stress of getting people booked! Maybe not as bad because I hope the numbers don't change drastically, but it is again that uncertainty that drives me nuts. I spoke to my TA today and she said a couple of people have made final payments but most haven't. She's leaving for a week next week and that only leaves about 3 days when she comes back eeek!! I'm sure that just like the initial booking, most people will wait until the last 2 days, especially because for most people a new paycheque is coming in a couple of days before the deadline.

I really hope we don't end up with no one but ourselves and immediate family. I would feel so disappointed that after all this planning everyone cancels. I know they won't, but it's that little voice in your head that tells you "what if", that just messes with every inch of confidence that you have.

Your to-do list looks about right! I still have a couple of those on my list and I'm 2.5 weeks from leaving :) You're in great shape with plenty of time left! I'm so grateful for the holiday weekend to start wrapping up loose ends.

We didn't really have any changes to our list when it came time for final payment! I thought maybe, but no changes and no issues. Well, if there were issues my TA didn't tell me about them, which is awesome. We are barely getting any perks, unfortunately. Our resort offers a free person (rebated to us) for every 20 guests and the rebate is based on the minimum number of nights anyone in our group is staying. Well, unfortunately we have someone staying only 2 nights so the 2 "free passengers" we are going to get will only be based on 2 nights. I mean, it is still something, but much less than we hoped.

But, at one point based on verbal RSVPs we thought we'd have 80 guests and we're down to 65. We would have paid for everything for 80 guests, so I guess we're still ahead based on that.

2.5 weeks! That's so exciting!! I really hope our numbers don't change much. on the one side less people would mean less money, but I really want all of them there :D

@@snswedding2016 so true! That's now my new attitude as well. I've decided that whoever wants to be there will make it and all that matters is that it's our special day (I can't lie though.. it would sting at first with all of the extras we are getting for our wedding party size

It is tough because of the perks, you're kind of hanging on there hoping that everyone will come, but at the same time, like you said, whoever wants to be there will be :)

@@ashhtayy I've been trying to make the same post 3 times and it won't let me! We sent out text individual messages to people who hadn't booked. I remember putting something along the lines of "Hi XXX. Just a friendly reminder that this date is the final day to book your trip with our group to take advantage of our group pricing" I think I might have referred them to our website, so you can always do that. Some people had forgotten about the exact deadline, others told us that they'd be booking soon and some others told us they wouldn't be able to make it. I think I agree with most of the ladies here, those people that think of you as a priority will make sure they're booked and ready to go or they at least tell you why they can't make it, and in the end they're the ones that matter. For those who don't even bother in getting back to you or booking, then maybe you didn't want them there anyways. Everyone still waited until the last 2 days and I'm not exaggerating. A week out there were 11 of us, including us two haha.

@@calgarybride2015 They're starting to grow on me! Every time I look at them I have a little chuckle, especially Juan's because I think it looks like a potato head hahah. I didn't know if i wanted to keep them fun like that or make it more along the lines of what you see on etsy. Juan liked the guys' hangers too and to be honest it's less work to just leave them like that haha.

Ack! It didn't occur to me that once people have paid deposits they may not pay the final amount!?! How much are your deposits? Ours are $250. So not a crazy amount but not chump change either.

Yeah, ours was $150, so even less of an incentive to pay the full amount haha. We have a couple of people who want to jump ship now and go to the hotel next door that is about $200 cheaper. I don't even know if that's the best idea, considering they'd be out of $150 if they do that, but who am I to tell people what to do.

Update on Bridal Party Attire:

The groomsmen/man of honour outfits are ready to go! I went with my brother today to buy his, but they'll all be wearing the same. The pants look a lot darker than they are in real life. They're actually the exact same colour as Juan's suit - we kind of lucked out here, the fabric also looks almost identical. Not the best picture, as we were all tired, but I wanted to see how it all looked together. Sometimes it's hard to imagine when you get all the pieces separately.

Now the debate, suspenders or no suspenders? My brother is leaning towards suspenders and Juan and I are both ok with whatever he decides. I'm kind of leaning for suspenders too to be honest. I think they look pretty cool. He might be the only guy wearing them, but he's also the only guy standing on my side so I don't think it will look bad.

@@TinkerSofi LOVE the suspenders…I've always been partial to them though. I think they'll add to your vintage feel too!! :)

yeah, I think they add a little nice touch, especially since they won't be wearing a suit jacket. I think the suspenders dress up the look a little more without it getting too hot :)

@@TinkerSofi suspenders for sure!! some girls have their MOHs wear something slightly different - as your man of honour I think it would look great if he was the only one with them. can't make a bad choice either way!

I felt like a stalker too haha but at the end of the day, if people booked they'd be off my stalker list haha! It was mainly those people that said they were interested and hadn't booked that we contacted so I didn't feel so bad :P

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
