I think also that alot of it depends on the overall budget of your wedding. If you're having 10 people and a cake reception and your budget is $4k, then spending a ton on photography probably seems out of the question (I STILL would blow my whole budget on the photographer, flowers be damned!), BUT, if your budget is $15-20k and you're having a fairly large group, there is certainly some place where you can trim the budget in other areas. Also, guys totally don't understand most of this wedding stuff. My FI freaked out when I told him how much we were spending just on engagement photos, much less the 5 hours for the wedding with Juan. I told him that I wasn't going to budge on the issue, that it was important to me and that was pretty muth the end of it. Considering the fact that I'm the one working 20 hours of overtime a week to pay for everything, I figured I could get my way!

I know he'll let me do it if I tell him I really want that photographer, which almost every photographer I've checked into has been relatively close, whether I choose to bring them with me from here or get someone there, it's not going to make much difference cost wise. I'm trying to keep our wedding under $10k, we're probably going to have about 25-30 ppl I'm guessing and there are other areas where I'm not spending a lot, I know most of our expenses are going to be our travel/resort for the wedding & the honeymoon. I do have almost a year to find someone, thanks for reminding me Tammy! I am just the type of person that likes to plan things so far in advance, I do this with everything, FI goes nuts, because he's a last minute kind of guy.

we loooove our photos and in hindsight wish we had spent more $$ and got more time with our photographer.

you can make it happen...tighten up your budget elsewhere.
I totally agree with Tammy on this one Jill. Elizabeth Madina is local and her first package is 2950.00 her shoots are buetifull. This includes 6 hours, web gallery, web slide show, and negatives too. Look into her and see if she has your date available. That way your sister can relax and enjoy too.

Hey Tammy-

So I guess we were thinking we wouldn't want that many pics after sunset and that it would be too dark. Our sunset is at 5:55 and our reception is semi-outside. I was looking through the galleries to try to see what people's pics look like after dark and didn't see much. Any thoughts on this?

hmm...most of the formal pics are definitely taken on the beach so those tend to be in the daylight or sunset...

i think jenniferv had some pics that were taken a little later in the day.

i know most of my cake cutting, dancing pics were taken at night. we have a ton of groups pics with friends that were taken at night and of dancing.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
