Packing Favors, Decor, Etc

Recommended Posts

Hello ladies!

I'm wondering if I should include anything (wedding location) in our luggage with all of our favors, etc. so they don't take anything when checking out bags in customs. Anyone have any tips to share?

Would they do that?

I will be enlisting some of my bridesmaids to travel with our favours in their carry ons in order to spread out the items.

I have never heard of customs taking anything out.  I would keep a copy of your invite in the luggage and explain you are getting married at customs.

@@kjb123....I would pack them in your carry on.  My girlfriend was married in Mexican last year and customs kept all of her wedding favors and gifts etc.  She had to buy all new favors off the resort with the help of the resort wedding planner.  It was a nightmare.  I wouldn't pack anything in the checked luggage or send anything ahead to the resort.

I am getting marriend in Jamaica next year and I am packing all wedding decorations and favors in carry on bags.  I will also have the bridesmaids take some items also.

This must be an extreme case??? There are a lot of women on this board each month who travel to Mexico with favors and OOT stuff in checked baggage who don't have this issue. Did she have receipts? They even mention wedding items on Mexico's customs webpage as it's so common to see it happen there. It's really sad and I feel for her but it seems to be an extreme case, I don't know :(

There is no way I can bring 50 cups and maracas and all my decor and fans ON the plane. It's physically impossible.

If customs searches you wouldn't they be able to take your carry on items as well? Whenever I've been searched I've been physically present.

Did they take them before she got her bags? That's so stressful and I feel for her.

Wow, that is very extreme!

I'm having 90 guests for our wedding and have bags, koozies, other favor items, napkins, coasters, decorations, etc. I can't pack it all on a carry-on.

Do you think putting the receipts and my wedding invite in the luggage is good enough?

If you put receipts in your luggage make sure you have another copy on you. Most brides on here say they bring them in their carry on and show them then. I'm confused :(

@@calgarybride2015....yes she had receipts and everything was insured.  However, the boxes were ripped open and items removed.  They would not allow her to take what was left to the resort.  And she had maracas customized with their names and wedding date on them, so I was also shocked that customs gave her a hard time.

It may be an extreme case but it does happen.  She did get her money back when she returned home because she had them insured.  It may be different because she was coming from the US vs Canada but it almost ruined her wedding.

I don't think your country makes a difference. Mexico is Mexico :(

She had them in boxes? Wonder if that isn't a good idea then? I've read women do that on here. I guess it's good to know that they can be searched before you even hit customs. I thought that was what the red light green lignt was for and we'd be present :(

Ugh I really feel horrible for her. Hopefully we all make out ok. Will cross fingers for all of us.

I want to insure my bags. Have to figure out how. Not sure my travel insurance thru my work does and don't want to pay for another travel insurance package. Would rather just Insure my bags. Gotta find out how.

You know now that I think of it, once I went to Vegas and when I got to the hotel I opened my bag and it had been searched. They left a little card but trashed my bagged. Nothing was missing though. Not sure if that was US or Canada who searched it. Can't recall as that was eons ago.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
