I Proposal-Blocked Myself!

Recommended Posts

My fiance and I went to New York state in early December to visit his brother's family. We were staying with them out in the White Plains area for a week. In the beginning of the week, there was a train derailment on the line into the city, so we decided to wait to do a trip in. Then when the trains came back, we really only had one day that we could have gone, but it was a wet, drizzly day so I didn't really want to go walking around in the rain all day, so we never ended up going into town. What I found out later after we got engaged was that he had the ring in his coat pocket the entire time. He went through different security lines than me in the airports every time just in case, and I didn't even notice. I found out that his plan had been to propose to me in front of the big Christmas tree at Rockefeller center. Oops!

The actual proposal was very "us" though. We exchanged gifts and stockings on Christmas Eve before heading to his parents' place. The last thing I pulled out of the stocking was a ring box sized wrapped gift. I looked at him suspiciously, then unwrapped the paper, inside was a box, and inside that box was a ring box. I remember looking at him and thinking "There damn well better not be a set of earrings in this box..." I opened the box and... there wasn't a ring inside. There was a note that said "IOU one ring". A million things went through my mind as I stared blankly at the note, foremost of which was "well yeah, we've discussed this, why are you reminding me that I don't have a ring yet?" then when I turned to him, he was down on one knee (with a look on his face that said you're adorable when you're confused), pulling the ring out of his shirt pocket.

Apparently when I was about 20 minutes later than usual getting home from work he spent the time convincing himself that I had died in a car accident and he was going to be one of those sob stories.

That is a great story!  It never turns out how they planned nor how we envisioned it.  I actually said "seriously, you are doing this now"  followed up by "you aren't waiting for vacation" We were going on vacation a couple of weeks later and I was convinced he was going to do it then.  The look on his face was priceless and I felt soooooo bad!

Haha that sounds like one of those awkward things that happens when your brain can't quite comprehend what is going on and things just pop out of your mouth.

Yup!!  He was like "ahhhhh I can't wait if you want" it was so funny and sorta sad at the same time.  I don't even remember whim asking me to marry him (although he swears he did)!

@@Sabes44 Haha he did put the ring on my finger. My sister also got engaged around Christmas a few years ago, it was about two weeks before Christmas and her boyfriend just couldn't handle the secret anymore, he pulls out the wrapped ring box, unwraps it himself and shoves it into her hands and says "Here!". She ended up standing there with a ring in her hand saying "so... what is this? What does this mean?"

ha ha that sounds familiar.  My fiance was getting frustrated cause we were on a hike and all the spots he wanted to do it were taken and finally he said "screw it, I am just doing this".  I was so confused!!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
