Exactly What Documents Need To Be Translated For A Symbolic Wedding

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I've seen a few topics about symbolic vs. legal ceremony but none really answer my question. I went to the DR consulate web page and it lists the translation fee of $70 (US$) per PAGE in each document necessary. SO, this means we will definitely have a symbolic wedding. So, exactly what documents will need to be translated for a symbolic wedding in the DR? And if there are any, a) do I have to get the translation done through the consulate and b)if not, do you have any recommendations for other places to use?

Thanks! :o

Hi.

Generally, If you have a "Symbolic" or "token" wedding in a destination location, it means it is not legally binding - you have are doing the legal part in your home country (either poor to going or upon returning home) so there are no legal requirements to meet in the DW location.

The extra fees and requirements many other countries impose for the wedding to be legally binding in your home country and theirs is a reason many couples choose to go the symbolic or token route.  It frankly is much easier and less hassle all the way around.

Go to www.wedo.com  they handle all the translation of the documents for a fraction of the cost. Also, ask you wedding coordinator or travel agent, they should be able to direct you.

@@TAkathy is right from everything that I looked into, and it's one of the reasons we got married in Jamaica. No translation and very easy documentation but that was for us to get married there.

If you're already married and just doing a symbolic ceremony, there isn't any documents that I've ever heard of. It doesn't matter to them if they perform a marriage ceremony for you and you aren't really married. It's not legally binding so there is nothing anyone can do. You could either do your legal part before you go or after you return. From what I've seen of the brides here, they all seem in favour of doing it before going.

I'm Dominican and as far as I'm concerned, you do not need any documents in order to have a symbolic wedding. You do need documents to have a legal wedding. I’m not sure if you are planning to get legally wedding in the Dominican Republic but my suggestion would be to get legally married wherever you live so that you don’t get any surprises.

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
