Stage 1, And I'm Already Stressing...

Recommended Posts

I'm so overwhelmed by all the threads I've read here. You all have some amazing and wonderful stories and ideas and I feel so disconnected from you all :(

The wedding I have in mind is low key, fun, non traditional and laid back... Is that bad? Bohemian wedding is what I want.. Again very laid back, and since I'm a Buddhist I'm not really interested in any of the religious traditional stuff.

We were thinking about inviting 20 people tops and that's even pushing it..

Things like centre pieces and decorations scare me as we just really want to get married with our feet in the sand at sunset and then party the night away with our loved ones.

I do plan on going all out on the invitations but aside from my dress/ring and his "suit" we didn't really want a super huge deal to stress about... Hence the destination wedding.

We are literally at the planning stages. Just picking out the destination. And my fiancé has given me carte Blanche and it's all pretty much up to me. Eeek!!

I was under the impression that these resorts just took care of everything and you pay a wedding package and your guests whom are staying at resort as well just join us?!!

Pleeeease set things straight for me ladies..

Point me in the right direction :)

@@MrsRoy it sounds like you have a clear idea on how you want your wedding to be! I think most of us are type a/planner types, otherwise we wouldn't be on this forum :) I think if you wanted to wait to plan anything until you get to the resort, you could! And you're right - most resorts have standard packages so you could just choose one of them once you get there!

I hope I can find a resort that will cater to what I have planned.

@@MrsRoy maybe check out tulum or a smaller resort? What's your budget? Maybe getting a at might be good bc they are knowledgeable about a lot of different resorts

Congrats....as @@malyna said smaller resorts may be the way to go.  If doing Jamaica I would look at Negil...which is very laid back and more rustic.

Most resorts have set packages that may work for you and if you need something else added they can accommodate. Trying not to stress is easier said than done but try not to.  As long as you have a clear vision of what you are looking for you will have the special experience you are looking for!

Happy planning!

Mrs. Roy!  You are having a destination wedding, you can do whatever you want! ;)

I would suggest you choose a resort that is established with weddings, with good wedding packages, and a dedicated wedding coordinator. These resorts and WCs are experts with all styles of weddings, which means your wedding will go off without a hitch regardless of how much or how little planning you wish to put in.  Though I did have a few DIY projects, I left a lot up to the on-site wedding coordinator.  Most things were decided on when I got to the resort, and everything worked out perfectly.

What you are describing as what you want is absolutely possible!

Good luck! :)

many, many brides do exactly what you've outlined. you just don't hear about them as often I think. it's a destination wedding - do what YOU want. there are no rules about having to have centerpieces or anything elaborate. a wedding is all about celebrating the bride & groom in whatever form that takes.

one of my dear friends had a super simple wedding in Cuba, and it was just amazing.

your dream wedding can and will come true!!!

When it comes to the wedding, I do not see any need to compromise unless there is absolutely no alternative. You are causing yourself some sleepless nights it seems, but then again you only get a once in a lifetime chance at planning the wedding you want. Once you start getting the pieces together I guarantee that some of the stress is going to be relieved...I've been there :)

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
