PRICE GOUGING CONTINUES...

So I have sent the same 3 pictures to the Karisma coordinator & to several Cancun vendors.  Now I know that Lomas is a rip off...but here's just how bad it is

Lomas Quotes

Bridesmaid Bouquet- Green orchids & Blue Orchids $225

Brides Bouquet- Blue Orchids, Hydrangea & Roses $350

Centerpieces- Blue Orchids & Hydrangea $350

Total Cost for Lomas flowers= $2200

Marvin with Maya Floral Quoted:

Bridesmaids- $75

Brides Bouquet- $185

Centerpieces- $75

Total for outside vendor (delivery not included)= $635

Karla from Hacienda Sisal quoted $470 for all flowers if the reception was held at the restaurant.

Can you seriously believe the difference in price?!?! That's insane!

OOT BAGS....

Since planning on the resort end of things is at a total standstill, I've turned my attention to OOT bags.  I'm not planning on doing anything crazy but I do want to show some sort of appreciation for ppl making the trip.

The plan:

I ordered luggage tags (specialist ID) and designed pre-travel brochures (vistaprint).  The plan is to distribute these to wedding guests ahead of travel & we are making that our "favor."  I designed an insert for the luggage tag.

Now for the welcome bags.

I wanted to include useful items that people will actually use & appreciate.  I thought about buying cheap beach bags but the items I want to put in the bags are all small... So I'm just going to use something simple. I came across bags on oriental trading that have a picture insert slot.  Im going to use those and print out our peacock wedding monogram to put in the picture slot.

I've also ordered some cute personalized items from etsy:

Peacock Chapstick- In tropical flavors- $34

Peacock Packs of Gum- $40

DollarTree.com (sunblock is currently out of stock but im hoping to get it when it becomes available)

Travel size aloe- $24

Not purchased yet: but will buy within the week

Bath & Body Works- Hand sanitizer in the tropical scents

- Also...in the past ive purchased travel size lotions for $1.  I usually find them by the registers at checkout...so if they are available I will purchase them for the ladies.

Also found cute maraca pens on oriental trading. $10

I will of course add the other usual items.

Welcome Letter/booklet

Hotel Brochures

Not sure if im going to do any more than that.  The items are small but the cost for the bags is going to be btwn $150-$200.  Wasn't really planning on spending that much but i loved the personalized items :)

THE BREAKTHROUGH...

Well...I finally heard back from the florida wedding coordinator supervisor and persistence has paid off...

Hair & Makeup- the fee has been waived. Reasons...I am using a team that does airbrush makeup and the resort doesn't provide that service.  As for the day pass fee... I put up a fight that I shouldn't be penalized for wanting a service that the hotel can't provide.  Also, day passes are for people who will be staying the day at the resort and partaking in the amenities. the stylists will come and go without even stepping foot in those areas. I have submitted their names to the hotel so on the day of the wedding there will be no issues.

Lomas Travel- not much they can do about that.  According to Fabio the prices Lomas quotes are within the range of other Mexico vendors.  I have done my own research and find that statement not true.  However, I am able to bring in my own flowers. Only problem is we have to get them and bring them to the resort.  My FI said no problem.  He is going to meet our florist at the gates of Azul to pick up the flowers. The cost of a cab the couple miles vs. the cost of the Lomas flowers...cab ride is def worth it.

Decorating Charges- I have emailed Fabio back with further questions on this one. We are supposed to have the Pearl package for the wedding which includes the setup of white linens, chair sashes, etc.  I told Fabio I couldn't understand how the resort could justify charging us a set up fee if we were bringing the same items they would already be setting up only they would be in our wedding colors.  I told him I could understand if they were doing extras such as hanging lanterns or draping the walls.  He responded saying I was correct...the décor charge is for things like the aforementioned.  Soooo does that mean I don't have to pay for you to set up my chair sashes? table cloths? napkins? because if that's the case, my Florida coordinator has been giving me the wrong information.

NOW THE BEST PART....

Due to all the issues I've had with the resort...and that I was looking into doing the reception elsewhere, Azul has offered me the following comps-

Always & Forever Complimentary Wedding Package- We did not qualify for the complimentary wedding bc we are only staying 6 nights.  Fabio has offered this package to us which now saves us the $950 that the Pearl package costs. Honestly the few extras that the Pearl Package has over the free wedding just isn't worth it. This suits us much better and we can direct the savings into contouring the wedding our way with our florist.

The Cake- As I've mentioned...Azul quoted me $300 for a basic cake for 25 people.  I sent out several emails to canucn vendors and the cake prices ranged from $100-$150 for the same cake (+delivery)  Fabio has offered to include the cake at no cost.

AND THERE YOU HAVE IT...

Persistence pays off.  Ladies, if you feel like something isn't right- question it.  And stick to your guns if you feel like they are trying to rip you off. If Fabio didn't comp the cake I was going to order from an outside vendor and have it delivered at the same time as the flowers.

I'm still waiting to hear back about the Videographer.  Caribe and Matias Cano do not offer the Cinematic style video & that's what im interested in.  I've looked at the work of Mike Cantrelli and would love to hire him.  I'm hoping to avoid the outside vendor fee since the approved ones can not deliver this type of video.

Same with the decorations. It wouldn't be the end of the world to pay the $5 per person...but if I can get away with not paying it...that's $125 that I can put towards something else. So we'll see what happens from here on out.

And yes, I finally feel like things are coming together.  I am totally decided on my bouquet & bridesmaids.  Now I just have to make the final call on centerpieces so the florist can draw up the contract & send me some mock ups!  I can't wait! Im totally obsessed with the blue orchids now :)

I am so happy for you! Your hard work, research, and persistence has paid off! That's awesome! I think they really do want you to have the wedding of yours dreams and don't want to be unhappy because that will reflect badly upon them and others who might have thought to go to that hotel for their wedding!

    • Hi everyone! I have been doing lots of research on various wedding venues all around Mexico, my fiance wants a destination wedding and I am happy to have a wedding wherever so long as the vibe is right and guests are happy!  I have been seriously looking at Cabo Azul and was trying to find potential costs for them, but only found a page about their wedding costs from 2010. Does anyone have any updated information on costs / reviews they would like to share of this venue? Or advice in general, anything helps. Thanks so much, happy wedding planning to all!
    • Hello everyone, I am dreaming of a wedding in Costa Rica and was wondering if I could get any help with venues and wedding planners. I am thinking Tamarindo because a close friend of mine lives there and I've been in town more than a couple of times, she's being helpful but is at a loss when it comes to this subject really so I was wondering if anyone here had recommendations. I am not closed to other town suggestions either, if I happen to find a good place and staff somewhere else. These are the places I have so far, has anyone had any experience with any of them?  Stay In Tamarindo Luxury Villas in Costa Rica Luxury Villas Pinilla Tropical Homes of Costa Rica The Point Luxury Villa Thank you so much for your help!
