My ring is a 4 prong solitare. I just realized I can rotate the stone slightly. I had it cleaned this weekend, so it could have been losened. Or is this much movement normal?

We ordered it from an online store so I wonder if I can just take it into another jeweler to have it tightened. I don't think I will have time for atleast 2 weeks. Should I stop wearing the ring until it's tighter?

UPDATE- My ring has been fixed. It was $35 & he threw in an extra thick rhodium dip. The jeweler bent more metal around the stone so it will now be held more secure. He said my style of setting (tulipset) is difficult to set & may not have been done right the first time.

I was without my ring for 2 1/2 days because we couldn't take it in the next day. It made me realize how much I glance at it during the day. I was really happy to get it back saturday!

I would def get it tightened asap. But it depends on how much you can move it on whether I would continue wearing it until it's tightened. I know that 4 prong settings aren't as secure as 6 for a round cut diamond, so that would make me nervous. Mine is oval, with 4, so it would have to be crazy loose to fall out. That all being said, I am not a jeweler, so I don't know for sure, I would just hate for you to lose your stone!!

Your stone shouldn't move. You should get it fixed asap and if I were you I'd take if off and put it somewhere safe until then. Also, make sure you take it to a reputible jeweler!

I agree, take it to a reputible jeweler as soon as possible. It usually doesn't take them long to tighen it up.

I concur - I have a four prong solitaire round cut and my jeweller said it shouldn't move at all! I guess that's why I have insurance..

OK I will take care of it ASAP. Do you think they will charge me to tighten it?

It's 4 prong, but a tulip setting so it's like 8 prongs that meet in 4 places. It should be stronger than a typical 4 prong.

I remember my sister had to get her tightened and there was a small fee. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I'd guess like $40. But she also just took it to the 1st place, she didn't ask around for better prices. I think she also had to have them send it away for the weekend, cuz there jeweler doesn't work on site. (I thnk it was a mall store).

Sorry, I am not being much help, am I?

I'm going to see if my FI has time to take it in. The shop I like is on the way to his work.
