PC World - Online Photo Services Shootout

Yahoo printing was terrible when I used it. They have shut down. I used snapfish the last 3 years & really like them. I have recently switched to shutterfly because they are always giving away free products (calendars, photobooks). Now that I'm using lumapix to make photobooks I need a website that will let me download guests pictures in high res. I was going to check out Picasa
I know you can download picture sin high resolution. I just need to see how easy it is for making a group account & sharing.

Can you set up a group account with Kodak so other people can download their pictures as well? I have a Kodak account already, but I did not see this option.

Has anyone used this? I definitely want to use a site that lets you download pics. It looks good at first glance...

I'm not sure if you can set up a group account, but I just set up a new account with one of my email addresses and I gave all of our guests the login information so that everyone can download their pictures to the same site and view each others pictures.

And then I know if I email the share photos link to myself, then I can log in with my private account and I'll be able to view everyones pictures under my private account and order them if I want to.

Go into your account and go into where you can view your albums. On the right hand side under "things you can do", go to CREATE GROUP. It will walk you through it from there.

I used picasa to look at a friends pictures. If you have seen the thread where I edited my friend's tan line- I downloaded those pics from picasa. It was great, because I could get all their pictures at 300dpi (good enough for most projects). Now I have all their pictures & can do all sorts of photo projects with them. If they shared them using snapfish or shutterfly, I could only get lo resolution copies that wouldnt be good for most things. Or I'd have to do all projects through snapfish or shutterfly which limits options. I know snapfish allows you to buy a high res copy at about $1 per picture.

My concerns about picasa is that you have to download it. I want something that would be really easy for guests to do who are not so computer savy. I also don't know how it works. I downloaded a program once for photo sharing & it took over my computer. Everytime I wanted to open a picture, I had to go through that program. it was annoying. i'd hate to mess up my guests computers. I really don't know how picasa works though, so it might actually be fine.

When someone sends you the link to their pictures on picasa, it works really easily. I just need to know if it would be easy for my guests to add pictures.

My other concern is I don't think guests can buy pictures straight off picasa. If the pictures were on shutterfly, they could easily buy prints.

So I'm thinking my option might be to use shutterfly for sharing pictures. Then if someone adds a picture I really love, I'll ask them to email me the picture so i can use it for other projects. i'm still looking at options though.

OK, I've probably said enough. Can you tell i really love pictures

When you say hi resolution what do you mean? What exactly makes them different? I have to say that any print I have gotten from Kodak, Snapfish or even Wal-mart turns out very crisp and clear. Might be my camera (I use a Rebel) but even the ones I get from other people usually turn out great. Just wonder if I'm missing out on something really cool.

The prints are fine when you order them through snapfish etc. But you can't right click a snapfish picture & save it to then upload to another website & order it. You also can't save it from snapfish, edit it with another program, and re-upload it to snapfish. The resolution will be too low & the print won't look good.

Well, I don't think you can. If anyone knows a way to do this, please let me know. i know you can pay to download it.

For example, my friend uses shutterfly. Before I had a shutterfly account, I tried to copy the pictures off there to upload to my snapfish account to order them. The pictures were too low res to print.

I want all my pictures on my computer so I can make a photobook using lumapix. Then I'll upload the collages onto shutterfly (or another company) to order the book. If the pictures were shared using shutterfly, I couldn't do this. I could make the book on shutterfly, but I'd then be limited to their templates. I also want to be able to edit them in photoshop first.

It looks like we still have not found the Ideal site to make it easy for everyone. I usually use Adobe photoshop, but this goes directly through Kodak & there is not a "sharing" option. I will look into the other 2 suggestions. I have received piccasso pics also but I don't know enough about this site.

I just downloaded picasa. I dont think it was easy enough to use to ask my guest to download it & share their photos this way.

It collects all the pictures off your computer & organizes them in the program. I don't want to ask them to use something that starts to make changes to their computer.

I might use snapfish because you can purchase the high res images. There might just be a few pictures I will need for making my photobook. If I can't get the person who took them to email it to me, I'll pay to download it.

What I'd really love is if everyone mailed me a CD of their images. I think a few of my friends would do it, but I know not everyone will. I don't care to get gifts for our wedding. I just want the pictures!!!
